I saw Garbage last night and they were amazing!! They wer supporting ( what a joke- don't want to start the fight again but come on they should have been at least co-headlining) Alanis. They only played for an hour but what a fine hour that was! They played: Temptation Waits, Hammering in my Head, I think I'm Paranoid, Vow, #1 Crush, Medication, Push It, Stupid Girl (before this Shirley was paying out the Spice Girls and was singing Wannabe and doing a little dance!), Only Happy When it Rains, Milk (Garbage's darkest moment according to Shirley), When I Grow Up and finished with You look so fine (Shirley played guitar on this song which was surprising cause I thought she only played guitar on the first album and she has the coolest guitar- a sparkly orange one!). Shirley was really energetic, jumping around the stage, running from side to side. Stellar, from NZ, before Garbage wer pretty good too- Boh Runga had this really cool blue sparkly guitar! I had a really good position, there was only one person in front of me and I was standing right in front of Duke. Garbage did a signing earlier in the day and they were very nice- Butch and Shirley talked the most. At their gig, Shirley dedicated Medication to this girl at the signing who had been sliting her wrists and was pointing out people whom she had saw at the signing- not me though! She also told us how she had/has an aunt called Adelaide, the city I live in! Anyway, I saw Duke and Butch a couple of hours after the signing and I went sprinting after them and when I got to them I dropped my bag, asked Butch if I could have a photo with them and Duke was starting to walk off! But Butch got him back- Butch ( and Shirley) seemed to be the nicest. (Duke put his hand on my back in the photo, which is what Darren Jessee did in my photo with him. So I was wondering if this is a regular thing, do most male band people do this in photos??) Him and Duke probably thought I was the biggest idiot though and I was having a staring competition with Duke at their show so I wondered if he recognised me, the pyscho girl! Also I tried to meet them after their show (sorry didn't stay for any Alanis) cause I found the place they were coming out of but they came out already in the Tarago which was a bit disappointing but oh well. Someone said in regard to the cK ads >the rest are not too flattering, it seems they are trying to make them as unflattering as possible-< So the ones of Brian Molko and Shirley aren't good? Has anyone seem these ones? What are they wearing in them? Is Brian dressed up as a schoolgirl cause this is what I hear! Also does anyone know whats the deal with Melissa supposedly leaving Hole? Has she actually said anything about it yet? Yeah, I too was wondering how the people on this list get all this Liz stuff like the WCSE demos? Oh yeah, I met this girl in the line for the Garbage signing who liked Polyester Bride so I'm making a tape for her and she's getting me some older Placebo videos (of the bootleg Chris so kindly provided me- THANK YOU SO MUCH) so hopefully another convert! Found this on the hipmama (http://www.hipmama.com) website thanks to the lovely Chickmail....Sally: whitechocolatespaceegg Liz Phair Matador "It's a death in our love that has brought us here/It's a birth that has changed our lives/It's a place that I hope we'll be leaving soon/And I fear for the year in his eyes." Liz Phair's whitechocolatespaceegg offers many such delectable indie-pop slices-of-emotional-life for fans and those-who-didn't-know-any-better-^Qtil-now to savor, very slowly. Phair once wanted to be "your blow job queen." Now, in her own oblique words, she's "no ordinary lover or friend." The grrrl whose raw expression and even barer production values made her Exile in Guyville a must-have album in 1993 has grown up on her third release. Duh! Many reviewers celebrate Liz Phair's return from a five-year exile, a few of those years having been spent in Mommyville. Remarking on motherhood's mellowing and maturing influence, more than a few writers say that her music gestated as much as did her son. Rest assured, Phair's tenor is as textured and tangibly off-key as ever. Her licks and lyricism get richer with age. Do we expect any less from Liz? As I would wish for any grrrlfriend, I'd hope that by Liz's early thirties the inspiration for "Fuck and Run" would be left where it belongs, in her mid-twenties. Despite commercial rock's urge to formulaically reproduce music - and, more specifically in this case, Phair's angry, horny persona---the way a child paints-by-numbers, the magical stuff of Exile in Guyville resists such duplication. The result: whitechocolatespaceegg. Sure, Liz and her music aren't what they were in 1993. They're much more. -JT Like Liz Phair, I want to be 'cool, tall, vulnerable and luscious/I would have it all if I'd only had this much' but I reckon we're both sweaty, unshowered and covered in organic baby food before the sun is high. Something in her melodies and lyrics has always reminded me of the wandering little improvised songs of small children (yeah, yeah, she wants to be 'your blowjob queen', I know) and now I sing the last track, "Girls Room" to Inky and she can't tell the difference between it and "Don't Put the Clothes on My Body" or the "She Eats Organic Baby Food Song" or any of the other triple-dozen-spur-of-the-moment-don't-cry-just-eat-let-me-get-this-diaper-on - you unrecorded gems her daddy and I have warbled for her benefit. The dark as well as the light side of parenthood is captured here. - AH *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. *********************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Oct 1999 08:41:51 -0700 (PDT) From: Craig King Subject: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame I have a question for anyone who has ever been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. I don't see what the big deal is about 2:1 trading. It should be up to the two parties involved to set up the details of the trade, and if 2:1 is what is decided upon then no big deal. If that person doesn't like it they can trade with someone else. It's not like someone is holding a gun to your head saying you have to do a 2:1 trade. That's just my opinion anyway.
