No one is putting a gun to anybody's head to make them trade 2 for 1. someone is offering a trade and setting the conditions of that trade. Anyone is free to accept or decline these terms, be they 2 for 1, blanks and postage, or $$$ for trading. Don't piss and moan if some one wants a blank for their trouble, just look for someone else on the list to make a copy for you for free (plenty of people on the list will) and get over it. For the record I have made copies for other people on the list and all they had to do was send me a blank tape and return postage (athena, steve k, suzanne etc.) That doesn't make someone else's terms right or wrong. I feel the same way about bootlegs for sale. It is like Chris Rock says "Drug dealers don't really sell drugs they offer drugs." No one has ever sold me a bootleg. The product was offered and I as an adult made a decision to buy it or not. Before anyone goes on a rant about artist's being deprived of royalties it is my opinion that tape trading is just as illegal as bootlegging. I remember that someone on the list said it was okay to put a song by an artist on a mix tape but it was not okay to put the whole album on a tape and trade it. Be it one song or the whole album, both are copyright infringement. Whether money is exchanged or it is just another tape, copyright infringement is taking place. There is no such thing as being a little pregnant. Not that i have problem either buying bootlegs or just trading shows with others. I just don't try to moralize it or wear rose colored glasses when it comes to the subject. Frankly and realistically, I expect another year before we start hearing things. As I've posted before, I'll wager Capitol is planning on handling Liz like they would a new artist, so we can expect for them to wait until they have a clear schedule. Besides, right now they have their hands full with Meredith Brooks and David Mead, Who, by the way, is recieving mucho airplay around here. Why him and not Liz??? That's what I've been asking myself for years now. It boggles the mind. Any takers??? I missed that one....... Eve's Plum did not sell out. They were dropped by their label due to poor album sales (and in spite of a tremendous fanbase) and the band slowly splintered off to work on other projects. Colleen spent nearly 2 years trying again to make it as an actress (her original goal in life, before auditioning as the vocalist for Eve's Plum), acted in several straight to video (or trashed) movies, and then got a deal to record a demo as a solo artist. Since she was the primary song writer for EP, I was excited to hear it. Then, when I saw an article on Vitamin C and realized it was Colleen, I wanted to cry. It doesn't really surprise me, though, that she moved toward bubblegum pop/dance. Anyone who followed the band knows that she had a passion for disco music. Furthermore, you can see a bit of the bubblegum in some of the Cherry Alive tunes (as compared to the songs on Envy). re: Ben Lee. I would say that since I heard Ben Lee do Perfect World twice and every other mention of Ben Lee covering Liz mentioned Perfect World, then that would be the mystery song. So I guess it's not much of a mystery. I'll be seeing him opening up for Luscious Jackson later this month and I'll let everyone know if he covers Liz again. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Oct 1999 14:50:30 PDT From: tommyk7@excite.com Subject: Re: The wait On Tue, 05 Oct 1999 15:18:40 EDT, Morgan Hartsell wrote: "I mean, I can't wait to see a little blurb in Rolling Stone that says "LIZ PHAIR'S NEW ALBUM (insert name of album here) IS SET FOR RELEASE ON (insert name of month next year here) C'mon, like ya'll don't secretly look for that, too." We created a display that pays tribute not only to an artist, but also to an artist's dream. Sarah McLachlan's vision was to create an event that would celebrate women in music. Despite the many people who were convinced that an all-women festival tour wouldn't work, McLachlan forged ahead. Selling out venues across North America, Lilith Fair became the top grossing festival tour of 1997 and garnered the tour of the year. The Lilith Fair display will be ever growing. At the end of the 1998 Lilith Fair tour we will be updating the display to feature this years artists. They include Natalie Merchant, Erykah Badu, Liz Phair, Missy Elliot, Bonnie Raitt, Me'Shell Ndegocello, Queen Latifah and Sinead O'Connor.<< Here's the link in case you want to check it our for yourself: http://www.hardrockhotel.com/flashsite/rock/index.html Notice Liz's name is mentioned as one of the artists that will be having memorabilia in the display. Am I too late!? Finally, with thanks and good karma going out to Spaceeggy Katie, I've managed to have a listen to the much debated "Love/Hate Transmission." And I've got to tell you fine people, this song rocks. If this is any indication of Liz's direction, I'd say she's right on coarse. I even like that damn keyboard going through the song. From the sound of its current live incarnation, I'd say we're all in for a treat when our ears taste what the studio produced. And my guess, as others mentioned before, this thing is probably loaded with effects, distortions, overdubs, etc.... I can't wait for this record. My belief has always been that part of the point of going in to the studio is to try things that you can't necessarily do live. Of coarse, there is a fine line between experimentation and overproduction. I don't think Liz and family (esp. Buddy, isn't that a great rock'n'roll name? Buddy Judge) will let us down. True, I doubt the magnificence and magic of the lo-fi "Exile" could ever be topped or reproduced with all the production in the world, but a growing Liz suits me better than a stagnant one trying to recapture a past moment. So I suppose sometime early next year we'll all find out. Until then, let's keep it interesting... Oh yeah, I think I might have mentioned this before, but you can get the Bachelor No. 2 Preview CD from aimeemann.com. Last I looked there were still idiots paying $20+ for it on ebay.
