Wrigley field in Liz' hometown is a result of unhappy players forming their own league (Federal League) in the 1920s. You think the players make too much? How would the owners make ten (or more) times that without them? Football players are more expendable anyway. Well anyway, here is my first impression: When it started, I thought it was a mistake and it was "6'1"" . THe instrumental part really does sound like 6'1". That keyboard part got me thinking completely of "Baba O'Riley" by the Who. Yeah, who? The WHo! That's what I'm asking... who is it? Yeah... it is the Who! I know... who sings it? Right! Who sings it! Who's the band? No, not The Band, The Who! Okay anyway... umm... then that one weird part where she's like singing syllables was reminiscent of that "Dreams" song by the Cranberries. That's what I think. I'm not sure wht my opinion is. It's not the best recording,a nyway, so I don't want to jump to conclusions. It could be a totally different song cleaned up, ya know? But I'll listen to it some more when I have time and then I'll reopine. Later, Nicole * * * * * * * * * * * * "Perfect is a fault, and fault lines change." -R.E.M. I've never personally heard it (maybe some tracks off it unknowingly). then I was wondering what it would be like to listen to rs track 1 and then ecp track 1, rs t2, ecp t2, and so on, kind of a statement and a response all the way to the end. has anyone ever tried this? if it turned out to be cool, it would make a great mixed cd, alternating between the stones and liz. I'd really like to try it and find out. so, I personally think adam sandler's 'at a medium pace' is by far the best song to have sex to. "now, take that shampoo bottle and stick it up my ass. pretend I'm the pizza delivery boy and watch me whack off." oh, baby, take me NOW! but I agree with portishead for a nice, easy pace, and I know a guy who used to listen to pantera when he was "with" his girlfriend. s&m, here we come, and bring your tool (the group or the phallus, whichever you prefer). jake "'scuse me while I kiss this guy" - could someone really mis-hear purple haze like that?? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 15:46:56 -0400 (EDT) From: John Kim Subject: music mark mp3 could someone please repost the url for mark's homepage with the liz phair mp3's hugs. john kim ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 16:03:55 EDT From: "Morgan Hartsell" Subject: Liz's future headache79@aol.com wrote: >She then told me that she was going to be >releasing Juvinalia #2 soon which would have a lot of Girlysounds >stuff on >it >plus a cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another. Hm. I know you said that was just a dream, but I love that idea. I think, realistically, we are probably right in the middle between Liz albums. Whether or not she's done recording probably doesn't matter, because I don't think Capitol is going to release a major album from Liz until they have the time and money to promote it like they would with a new artist. Hell, I'm willing to bet they'll handle her like they would a new artist, becuase it'll be sort-of her major label debut. Like I've said in the past, I'm betting it'll be self-titled. Or maybe just "Liz." . Hm. I'm kidding about that last part. My point is, couldn't we at least get, like, an 5 or 6 song EP to tide us (her existing fans) over until they can put time and money into winning her new fans??? I'm sure Capitol isn't as cold, indifferent and corporporate as we think it is. Right? Right? Don't they know Liz has a very devoted following like few other artists in the Capitol stable? There is NO WAY they would lose money on that. It could even (God forbid) double as a single for one last shot off of WCSE. Big Tall Man? What Makes You Happy? I'm terrifed that, because WCSE didn't *explode* into the mainstream like they wanted, Capitol considers that "Strike One" against Liz. >Sigh<. Like maybe they called her into a board room one day with a bunch of charts and sales figures and brow-beated her for hours. Let's hope not!!!! Who knows what'll happen. I still think we should be hearing *SOMETHING* within the next few months!!! Right? It's on the very beginning of it's journey to album-dom. What we have here is a demo. And, a pretty good one (IMHO). The chirppy keyboard is kind of annoying, but it will probably be worked out of the song entirely at some point during the recording/mixing process or improved. Also, it grows on you. I didn't know what to make of it just at first, but by the second time I heard it I was liking it. By the dozenth time or so, I was really grooving to it. It was so incredible at Lilith!!! It was the perfect way to end her set and she really got into it. Listening to the mp3 now reminds me of what a FUN song it is. Maybe some people are having trouble with the way the chorus is sung or her little opera bit. But remember, she may be singing a literal translation of what she may have recorded. Remember how she sings the "Listens" etc. in the live "Happy"? It sounds like she's doing the same kind of thing for "Love/Hate" - I bet that the chorus is electronically altered in the recorded version, as well as the "aria." Anyway, it rocks live...I think you all are just jealous for not seeing her at Lilith :-p. By the way, does anyone hear a Cyndi Lauper influence in the song?
