J/K. Sort of. I am a big fan of Dave. About how he introduced Liz....I wouldn't worry about it. I've been watching Dave for over 10 years, and he introduces every musical act pretty much the same. It's just the way he is. Besides, Dave DOES have good musical taste because his fav band is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Anyone who likes Tom Petty is ok in my book. Hey, Someone was talking about fave songs for driving and or sex, etc...Well, I have some fave albums for that sort of thing... "Electr-o-pura" by Yo La Tengo for driving on summer evenings (If you start the album at dusk, by the time you get to "Blue Line Swinger," the sky is a beautiful indigo, and it just fits). Now, I don't have sex albums, but I quite enjoy making out to the Smiths, but I think any PJ Harvey album would be a good sex album if you didn't listen to the words. Also, my favorite "makes me cry" song is "I Know It's Not Easy," by our very own Liz Phair... So I thought I would share. It was a double cd called That Old Familiar Valley (from that line in I'll Get You High, which was on the first cd.) The entire first cd was stuff that she'd never recorded before and new stuff. There were 16 songs on it. Can't remember all of them, but I remember I'll Get You High, Conversation Overhead..., Firewalker, Don't Apologize, Beginning to See the Light, Allison, Love/Hate Transmission, Pretty Boy(which obviously my mind made up) and something else my fevored brain must have made up called Fuck Off Into the Wind. The second cd had all the stuff from the 96 demos and the wcse sessions that didn't make it to wcse plus don't have time and carnivore (raw). No regular Carnivore. Asked Liz about it and she said she didn't like regular Carnivore. I had to agree with her on that one. I don't remember what the cover of the cd looked like, only that she was on it (go figure). She then told me that she was going to be releasing Juvinalia #2 soon which would have a lot of Girlysounds stuff on it plus a cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another. Oh well, it was only a dream. But wouldn't it be nice? A Liz double cd would really rock. Maybe if we all cross our fingers and pray hard enough it'll come true. Subject: songs for your car Two songs that come right to mind are "What Makes You Happy" ("I feel the sun on my back, I smell the earth in my skin, I see the sky above me like a full recovery..." That line is just perfect.) and "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman. When she gets to the chorus, you just gotta pump up the volume. "I remember when we were drivin... drivin in your car...speed so fast I felt like I was drunk... city lights something something and your arms felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulders and IIIII had a feeling that I belonged..." Oh shit, I think I just burned my retina. I just totally looked into a magnified mirror at the reflectionof the sun by accident. SHit. Well I can still see at the moment, so I'll keep writing. Other good songs I just remembered: "Roam" and "Love Shack" by the B52's. Oh and "Band On the Run" by Wings. "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac. I personally spent a couple of years listening to alot of old R.E.M. in my car and it was good stuff. By old I mean anything before "Green". But I had "Monster" in my car too and it was good to listen to too. As far as Pearl Jam being the best to listen to in the car, I don't really agree. Personally. I like PJ better in the home. I never noticed anything especially car-like or car-worthy. THen again, I've never tried to bring my PJ albums in the car. Only "Ten." The probelm is I used to only have a tape player in my car, but I did just get a portable CD player that can go in the car, so now I can do tapes OR CDs. Anyway, back to the PJ subject: I guess the car-themed songs might be good in the car, "Rearviewmirror" or "MFC", although I'm picturing myself in teh car listening to MFC and it doesn't seem extra spectacular to listening to it in the house. I think Pearl Jam takes concentration, and car music is stuff that you don't need as much concentration for (KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!) Shit, I think my face becomes more lopsided every day. Sigh. Speaking of Paul singing backup, anyone see Belly's first Letterman appearance? Paul Schaffer tried to sing along to "Feed the Tree" it was disgusting. I pulled out an old tape with a Buffy episode on it, and it was running through the halloween episode of "Felicity" and i noticed that they play about all of "Baby Got Going" during the party scene.
