I love to watch football on tv, and baseball, basketball, and hockey make for good live entertainment. golf and tennis should be played, not watched. so, I saw this chick joanna connor last night, she rocked the house, and it reminded me that I should put in a plug for susan tedeschi, she's got an amazing sound. all this alt-country talk, maybe we could use some blues as well. if you like bonnie raitt, I think you'll like susan. jake ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Sep 1999 20:40:31 -0400 (EDT) From: rachel kramer bussel Subject: High Fidelity Neko Case was up for a part in High Fidelity, but I didn't hear whether she got it or not...I'm guess not since I didn't see her name on that list. Neko is awesome...she has an album out called The Virginian and was in MAOW and I think is working on a 2nd album - she played Toronto Lilith last year and is really awesome - I guess she is "alt-country" but whatever you wanna call her, she's great...I think her album is on Mint Records if you want to check her out. :) Rachel "Sexuality is not a frill, and it's not a luxury appearance; it's a part of your life whether you're flush or famished, living under dictators or parliamentarians. Subject: Happy Birthday I was looking at the SS archives for something, and I noticed the mailing list (in it's "Support-System" form) was started September 11, 1998. Happy 1st birthday. THe other day, I let my roommate use my computer, and I had left my email open or whatever, and you could see that one of the letters was from "Support-System" and I just KNOW that she saw it and she thinks I'm in an email psychological support group. She already knows I'm f-ed up, it would on ly make sense that I would be in an email support group. I don't want to say anything about it, though, cuz I can't think of a good way to bring it up. Maybe I'll just bring something up one day about how I really like the Liz PHair song "Support System." Or I'll play it really loud. And she'll make the connection. I dunno. Man, we had a party at my co-op last night, but I had keg duty from 10:45-11:45, and so I got pretty drunk, and then I smoked up, so I got so fucking tired that I went to bed at 1:30 AM. I passed out. I pretty much missed the party, but it seemed lame anyway. But I've never been a host of a party! I mean except for last night. But I didn't do much hosting. Okay. (I'm responding to this to the list just in case other people had the same question.) Hmmm. Well, the way I've always understood "trading for blanks" (also known as a 2-for-1 trade) works like this: Let's say Bob sees that I have something in my collection that he wants a copy of. But he doesn't have anything to trade with me. Let's say that he wants a 90-minute show. So he sends me two tapes, and I fill up one of them with the concert and send it back to him (in his SASE). I keep the other blank tape. Some people might see that as "profit", but I see the blank tape almost as a 'replacement' for the tape that Bob would have sent me, if he had a concert or something to trade for. So if Bob wanted the GirlySounds on tape (2 60-min tapes), he'd send me FOUR tapes, and I'd fill up 2 of them and send them back. And no, I'm not the only one who does this. It's not truly a 'profit', but a way of trading for my _time_, if you want to look at it that way. Hope that clarifies! I know I posted this ages ago, but the movie's been delayed till January 2000. Angela Bassett stars, but it looks like another version of Sphere, another bad movie though. From what I saw, reminds me of Alien, Sphere and some other movie all mixed into one. Yeah...just what we need, another sci-fi thriller. Anyhoo, good news to hear my sister likes the mix tape I've made for her. I managed to squeeze in four Liz songs in there, but not from EIG cuz she wanted songs she was familar with and EIG is the only thing she has of Liz. Gee..should get her Whip-Smart for her b-day. =) Katie ();) NP: Tom Petty_Damn_the_Torpedos === ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "You don't know what it's like to listen to your fears.
