God, I love SSDigest. It gives me a great excuse not to write, which is what I'm supposed to be doing all these lonely nights. I need to build up an agitated head of guilt before anything starts to flow, and reading the Liz posts is a great way to do it. I feel that I'm doing something worthwhile instead of totally screwing off. >see what's coming right?) it has gotten even cooler. At least once a game >when they are coming back from commercial I've heard the long harmonica >blast and groovin' drums of "Baby Got Goin'." I've also heard the beginning >of "Johny Feelgood" on at least four or five occassions. There's NO music coming back from Dodgers broadcasts, which I listen to out here in guess where. They got Pedro Martinez from us, and took any musical taste along as well! I hope Liz gets a little $$ for each of these. >doses of Liz Phair everytime they tune into their beloved Red Sox. Pretty >subversive and cool if you ask me. We need more subversive and cool people out there sneaking the good shit in between the lines! Doesn't happen out here in LALAland. We did it for awhile on pirate FM radio, until we got busted by the FCC last year. I played Liz on every show, and premiered the bootleg I made at her date here last Oct. >. . . not only am I a straight male, but one who loves >baseball, intensely. Ditto, and I didn't even know it until this year. (Stop it. Stop it right now. I meant about the baseball.) I can't stand football though. I think it should be outlawed, and outlaws should play it to the death. (Condemned convicts I mean.) Do other Liz fanatics dislike football? >Yet, liz is still my favorite (and has been) in ways that I can't even >really explain (although to which I am sure most of you can relate). Do YOU want to write my stuff for me? This is just how I feel! >thanks for the space, >aaron Henry Aaron came out for the first pitch in the Atlanta @ San Diego game a couple of nights ago when I was visiting. It was a huge surprise to see him out there on the field. People went nuts. Greg. "Whenever I die, I only die for maybe three or four seconds. Does anyone else remember?-<< That was me that posted this a long time ago because my friend said he heard it during a Cubs game on WGN. He said they were reading a list of the people who would be singing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch, and that Liz was mentioned as one of the people. I haven't heard anything since and I'm beginning to think he was lying to me or perhaps misunderstood. Either way I don't know what the status of that is as of right now. Hey Aaron, that's really cool that they play Liz during Red Sox games. I wish they did that here in Milwaukee. I'm a HUGE baseball fan as well, despite the fact that the Brewers suck right now. I went to Boston last May just to go to a game at Fenway which was amazing. Just thought I'd share. Ok, enough rambling on my part. Now that I'm back in school, and now that I've gotten my new CD-burner to work, I'm going to volunteer to burn copies of Liz's GirlySounds for 3 lucky Support-System folks. The condition is blanks plus postage (that is, you send me 4 CDs and enough $ to cover return postage, and I'll burn GirlySounds onto two of 'em and send 'em back to you). Just make sure that they're not Memorex CDs. so catherine am i to understand that if someone sends you 2 discs, you return 1? if so it's not really a b&p deal. are you just in need of blank cdrs or was there a mathmatical error in your original post? in the past i have hooked up lots and lots (#?) of people for only blanks and postage and i get bummed when i see people trying to profit, in any way, from a trade. hoping it was just an oversight. so i will do the same, as far as the music goes. if you want a copy of the girly sounds stuff on 2 cdrs lemme know. will take up to five (5) requests. lucky ones will be notified. that means if you do not get a response...well, better luck next time. only my .02 peas john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Sep 1999 09:11:48 -0500 From: "Morrise, Jason" Subject: drinking with liz, supernova 7" valerie: I liked your dixie chicks story. I wonder how the boys would feel about 'earl' off the new album. brian: the gillian welch song is 'my morphine.' and for those of you who like lucinda williams, they have 'passionate kisses,' the song mary chapin carpenter covered a few years back. so, I don't know why I never mentioned this before, but there is a bar around here that has a wonderful cd collection in its jukebox. they actually have eig in it, and every time I go there, I have to play some songs off it just so I can listen to liz in a bar. it's so much better than hearing chumbawumba for the 746th time. I went shopping yesterday for liz stuff, and I didn't find much, but they did have four copies of the 'supernova' 7" with 'combo platter' on the b-side (it's such a lovely blue!), so I picked them all up. if anyone would like to trade for them, e-mail me. I will take anything by liz I can get on cd (I only have the four studio albums), like girlysounds, phairities, maybe a live show (liz at lounge ax?). I'm willing to throw in the cdr's, because I picked the 7" up for pretty cheap. hell, I'll pay for shipping too, I'm just hoping I can spark someone's interest who has cd copies of any of this stuff. jake "so, mister, turn it on, turn it up, turn me loose" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Sep 1999 14:54:25 -0400 From: "Stacey" Subject: vote for LIZ!!!!! hey everybody! However, I can only despair at the fact that it is coming so late. Hell, I remember when it used to be called No Depression! Second: If you're really looking for a good entree into the scene, check out Mary Lou Lord. Her music itself is nowhere near ND (well, maybe some of it), but she does have one song in particular. On her first LP on Kill Rock Stars she has this song called "His Indie World" in which she laments the fact that her music style will never jive with what her current lover listens to ("Just give me my Joni, my Mick, Neil, and Bob/You can keep your Tsunami, your Slant 6 and Smog"). However, she has a revamped version which she only performs live called "His ND World" ("I don't think I fit into his ND world/Bottle Rockets, Waco Brothers, Freakwater girls/Whiskeytown, Calexico, Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo...") While it is by no means complete, it is as close as you'll come to a Who's Who in alt.country today. I especially like the reference to Son Wilco. The only place I have seen it is on a compilation of live performances put out by Austin radio station KGSR, but I know the lyrics were once upon a time posted online on this site called Mary Lou's Coffee House. Third: Please don't shun this music because of the country half of it's moniker. I saw the stealth show Wilco put on in Austin just before they started touring with R.E.M. and (and I saw this with the utmost respect) they rocked harder than Liz has ever dreamed. Thank you for granting me a little of your time to talk about something I truly love. I promise to return the favor. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Sep 1999 21:05:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Easter Subject: Interesting Questions to Ask Hey, a while ago, another member asked what kind of consequences she would suffer if she played Blood Keeper on the radio, considering it hasn't been officially released. I've been wondering about this myself, and hopefully someone will be able to answer. Anyhoo...I remember reading ages ago from this list how you can fix scratches on your cd. Could someone please email me about this? I miss my Enchanted cd that's scratched up so badly. =( Katie ();) NP: Nothing, but watching this little roach die slowly is quite interesting. === ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." -John Lennon ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
