Also what's wrong with makeup in rock and roll, on both sexes?<< I think when he was referring to makeup he was referring to a band like Kiss or ICP who wears full makeup while performing. I could be wrong, but I don't think he meant women. Nicole said something about people either liking "Only Son" or "Baby Got Going", and not both. Well I happen to like both songs. I do like "Only Son" more, but I also happen to like "Baby Got Going" . I love it when the more bluesy side of Liz pops out. I do also agree with all the guys on the list who have defended the fact that you do NOT have to be gay to really feel or understand Liz's lyrics. I am NOT gay, and yet Liz's lyrics really speak to me. All you have to do is replace the work "he" or "him" with "she" or "her", and the lyrics can mean just as much to a guy as they do to a girl. I feel it is really shallow to think that, and I don't understand what being gay has to do with listening to Liz. I mean just because women listen to an artist like Tom Petty, who writes about relationships with women, doesn't mean that they are all lesbians. That whole mode of thinking makes no sense to me. And just to interject and prevent any rumors from getting started, there is no new EP. It was an exercise in speculation on behalf of several list members as to what songs they would like to see on an EP were one to be released. Honestly, I wouldn't get my hopes up and expect one to be forthcoming; Liz has already started work on a new full-length album, and given WCSE's lacklustre sales performance, I doubt we'll see anything further until its release. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but it's all too easy for rumors to get started, much like the one about Liz posing for Playboy. Yes, she had considered doing so five years ago, but dismissed the idea because there was no way she could be subversive about it. I really don't see her changing her mind now, and I don't see any basis for these rumors other than the fact that someone likely read an old interview archived on the web in which Liz did talk about considering posing and then started spreading it like it was recent news. It's not. Honestly, I really hope Liz never does such a thing. I don't think it would help her career any, despite offering a lot of exposure, and it would just add further fuel to a lot of the misconceptions people already have about her work and who she is. Think back to all of the articles over the years that have focused solely on the content of songs like "Flower" and "Fuck and Run," while only offering limited glimpses at her many other sides. I personally find it frustrating to watch Liz be reduced to this one dimensional being when there is so much more to her that is just as meaningful and important as her attitudes about sex and sexuality. Well, the genre alternative country is a hodge-podge of different musical styles that have at their base a strong country influence, but still aren't accepted by the country music mainstream. So, it is a pretty wide field, encompassing Bluegrass to cow punk to Son Volt types to classic country sounds. This is kind of a vague definition, but the genre is kind of vague. There are no rules. By the way, on the Sessions of West 54th appearance a couple of weeks ago, Steve Earle said that bluegrass music was the original alternative country music. Anyone that saw that episode can testify that it was a truly surreal experience seeing Steve Earle and David Byrne talking about Bluegrass music. Anyway....
