Steve posted the other day that the instrument was a mandolin. That is not right. Sophie had used a banjo in Lose Your Way and Sony/Columbia refused to release the album for the simple fact that they thought the banjo would not get any sales on radio rotation/play. She asked for her fans to get a campaign going to help her get it release, and so the "Cracker Army" was born. Finally, they had her re-mix the album hundreds of times and she refused to give in. They finally released her album July 20. Now, she's working on a save the environment campaign. If you get the CD, it has some interesting video's on it. Just thought you'd all want to know. . . Of course they couldn't put her on regular MTV cause regular MTV is reserved for the little bubble gum people like Backstreet Girls and N'Sucks and little Britney Spears. Only they are worthy to get space on MTV's listings and if Tori's concert did get televised it would be at like 3am when only casino and daysleepers were awake. Ok, enough MTV bashing. So, did anyone happen to catch her for that concert? I really wanted to, but #1: My computer can't handle that kinda special thing and #2: I was in a class. Her first single, "Bliss," has been released, supposedly. There was a video for it on "120 Minutes" and that's been it. Plus you can give CDNOW 1.99 to download it. Really, people can find it somewhere else and download it for free. Anyway, enough babble. Any thoughts?? Jen "It is no use trying to sum people up. I saw her twice this past week at Meriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia,Md.and last night at the E-Center in Camden,NJ. Her new stuff sounds really good live. I am on the Tori digest, and all though I don't run into any great amounts of poetry I do see some of the longest and most thought provoking posts I've come across. Tori did a cover of Led Zep's "Thank You" in Maryland which was ever so sweet. Although I totally despise the whole bashing thing that has recently occurred I feel compelled to congradulate Nicole on her explanation of where she's coming from and giving a little more insight as to who she is. I have made five copies of "Glory" with two bonus tracks("Firewalker"and "Don't Apoligize" included at the end. If anyone is interested please contact me privately. There is one catch though; in order to get a copy you need to be the first five people to contact me after 5:00 PM EST on Saturday 8/28/99. SHELLY...i've enjoyed your posts lately and have felta certain "kindredness" (yes i made up that word)...don't feel old, i'm almost 30, too (actually, 28). We had the age discussion on the list, and if i remember correctly, it ranged from like 14 years old to in the 50's. no worries. i loved that you mentioned springsteen's "Thunder Road," as it brings me to tears every time i hear it...what a beautiful song, those of you who don't know it would do well to check it out.anyway, keep up the interesting posts. FAMOUS RESEMBLANCES...i've been told i remind people of drew barrymore and that heather chick from BWP, but i really don't see either resemblance. drew, i think, because i have a young face (people usually think i'm 23 or 24 instead of 28). whatever... FIRST LIZ EXPERIENCE...like someone else on the list, i remember reading the rolling stone review of EIG back in 1993, right around the time i graduated from college, and thinking it sounded like something i would dig. i didn't rush right out and buy it, however. actually, (please don't hurt me...), i found it used, gave t a listen in the store and after hearing parts of 6'1" and Help Me Mary, i was hooked. for a long time, i just listened to the more rockin' , catchy songs, like the first two, Fuck and Run, Divorce Song and others. after a few months, i learned to appreciate it as a full work. at the time, nobody appreciated it as much as i did, save a few. in fact, in one of my most regrettable decisions, i opted NOT to see her at st. andrews hall on easter sunday in detroit because i couldn't find anyone to join me. BAD BAD BAD decision. EIG has taken me through my confused post-college years, through countless quasi-relationships, lifted my spirits while driving in my car or getting ready to go out, and let me cry when i needed to. i bought all otehr commercial releases new, though, in true fan spirit. in fact, i really love Whip-Smart and have revisited it of late. it's funny, i never cared for the song, "whip smart," perhaps because it painfully reminds me of liz's lackluster (sorry, but it was) performance of that song on jay leno, but the other day i found myself really enjoying it. i'm glad it grew on me. i have so much more to say, but my head feels like it's going to explode and my teeth are fuzzy and my apartment is hot. back to the futon to groan...red wine is a fair-weather friend... For starters, VH1 will be re-airing the 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll during Labor Day weekend. Might want to check your local listing if you'd like to catch this. Second, I saw a newsclip on MTV on Lilith this morning during News 1515. Guess that right, a short interview clip of Liz as well. Sorry, not able to tell you what she said, didn't have my hearing aids on at the moment. Seemed nice from what I saw. Boy, I was embarrassed, but she took it as a complement of course. Hey, anyone in Boston going to the MixFest in October?
