(Oh, and Tori too) I was a bit miffed with a few of their picks, and delighted with others...I let my subscription to SPIN lapse several years ago, simply because of the fact that...well, too many freakin' ads. (Isn't that the way mags are now anyway...sigh) Anyway, thanks for listening & for all of who make reading this mailer so fun...*cheeky grin* Especially lately about the e-bay info...I've been trying to track down a copy of "Girlysounds"..but, on a student's budget *yes, close to nil* I'm beginning to think I'm flopped for it...*tearing up a bit...dabbing gently at the corners of my eyes...* Oh, I suppose I'll live... Charlie Manson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 23:00:32 -0500 From: "hmm..." Subject: Alanis... So, I'm a lurker, but I can't stand to see the best musician in history disparaged (IMHO!!!! note, I do not expect anyone else to agree). But first off, to let you know, Alanis has discussed Ironic, and how people didn't get it. The irony of the song was about how none of the stuff was ironic, but just bad luck. It was taken the wrong way. Second, if you listen to supposed former infatuation junkie, you'll hear how much better she's gotten musically and vocally. the songs she wrote on the newer album excel. The vocal overlays and the musical portions are amazing (ie Sympathetic Character, One, can't not). I don't expect everyone to just love her, but if anyone just judged her by Jagged Little Pill (my second fav. album) you should give junkie a try. Plus, the new DOGMA song, Still, that's a masterpiece. And her best song is unreleased: Pollyanna Flower (b-side on Thank U). And I think some people are being a bit stubborn when saying that Alanis' lyrics are not as good as Liz's, because if anyone would realize, it would have to be liz fans, that you have to look at the whole idea to get the song. I mean, how deep is Flower, Six Foot One, etc. if you don't apply any type of thought. Granted, Hand In My Pocket didn't break ground musically, but IMHO, she's done more to dignify music than any other artist I know. anthonY:) who has said his schpiel and will now go back into the dark... - -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/ - -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-//-/-/-/-/-/-/-/- Groovy Alanis Quote: a church, a temple, or a kaba stone, koran or Bible or a martyr's bone, all these and more my heart can tolerate, since my religion now is love alone. - -\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\ - -\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 00:44:10 -0400 From: "Stacey" Subject: [none] Hey all! I don't know how many of you know this, but ebay stopped that one auction of the pharities, demos, and girlysounds that was going for 147.00. I don't know if this means that the bidder can/will still buy the tapes, but at least the ridiculous bidding has stopped. Mike said: >Having just gotten my wcse sessions tape from the one and only ken lee (all >hail ken!), I am struck by how much better liz's version of wcse is and how >much better it would have served her than the one eventually released. I completely agree with you. Ever since I got my sessions cd's from Ken, I don't listen to the "other" wcse as much. The sound of the first version of wcse is closer to her older stuff; it is less polished and more genuine. You can hear liz sing a little unsure of herself, mess up some words, talk in the background, ..the kind of thing that you can hear on EIG. To me, it sounds like liz is having fun and relaxing while singing on the sessions cd's, while on the official version she seems like she is concentrating much harder on making her voice sound a particular way. I wonder what would have happened if liz had released the first version of wcse.... her older fans would have loved it, but what about those people who discovered liz because of wcse? would they have gone out and bought the album if the first single had been "Russian Girl", or "Freak of Nature" instead of "Polyester Bride"? Just something to think about. - --Stacey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 21:46:08 -0700 (PDT) From: Katie Lynne Subject: Re: A list complaint for everyone In the middle of all the Alanis bashing, Dan wrote: "SOrry to bitch. just missing the good ole days.
