I haven't been keeping up with the guitars lately. A good classical guitar is monstrously expensive. If you're not all that serious about guitar, you can probably find a good one form less than $100 in the classifieds. Make sure you check out the guitar well. It's harder than buying a good used car. As far as electrics go, for starters, I would get a Mexican or Korean Fender strat (but avoid the Squiers) or a Yamaha Pacifica (if they still make those). A 20-30 watt combo amp will do fine. I'm not a guitar freak so better advice can be had in the guitar newsgroups and books, especially on what to look for. I personally own a Fender Stratocaster Deluxe edition with a bridge humbucker and a used Peavy Bandit 65 watt amp. I paid about $600 for it all. - --- "Your manuscript is both good and original, but the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good." -Samuel Johnson "A'nta baka?" -Asuka d. www4.ncsu.edu/~djkim2 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 21:00:32 PDT From: "M.L. "the simpsons" just ended, adn "married with children" is a perfectly awful show. that it ran so long jsut illustrates that the lowest common denominator is alive and well (and buying britney spears cds!). taking my 36C's (sometimes D's) to sleep, valerie ******************************************************** Valerie Barry valerieb@mindspring.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 00:08:25 -0400 (EDT) From: "Nicole W." Everyone is titled to their opinion on this list and I'm throwing mine out here also. And what's wrong with keeping his music alive? If it is worthy, it will (and has) stood the test of time. >>there was a point back in '94 but that was 6 years ago.<< Please, please, please tell us your view of what the point was. >>by the way, you're whole point about janis and jimi was somewhat pointless to me because i personally think they are sorry idiots. << I'm saying this not because I am a Hendrix fan (which I am) but because anyone with half an ounce of brains can see what Jimi contributed. I suppose Stevie Ray Vaughn was a sorry idiot too (especially for dying in a plane crash). Pointless because you have no grasp perhaps? Hendrix a sorry idiot? That's your opinion. My opinion is on this point you are full of shit and have little appreciation for the history of music. >>i party enough to make it count>> What the fuck does this mean? >>....but i don't dabble in hard drugs and i will NEVER EVER respect anyone who does.<< Since when does doing/not doing 'hard drugs' equate with being respected? So it's ok to get sloppy shit-faced drunk but drop a hit of acid or snort a line and all respect is lost? Well then trash about 99 % of your music collection then bub cuz they were all messed up on hard drugs when they wrote, recorded or played their respective albums. I got news for ya...Most respected world renowned writers, artists and philosophers in their time were most likely messed up on opium, absinthe, cocaine or whatever. Some drugs are very bad for you, I agree. But some are very mind expanding and lead to an insight of yourself and the world that you would not have otherwise. Do you think the Native American Indians don't deserve your respect? After all, some of them take peyote regularly so they must be assholes too huh? Two words....Timothy Leary. >>it's time to grow OUT of this goddamn "KURT FOREVER" phase. >> Fuck that! Example...I grew up listening to the Beatles. For me it will always be the beatles 'forever'. Does that mean I don't listen to all the new stuff that comes out? Of course I do. For God's sake if people want to listen to or worship Nirvana and their music let 'em. It's not hurting anyone. It's the sick fucks who shoot up schoolyards and rape the planet (and us) that we need to worry about. Running screaming from the room.....
