Courtney had a band with Kat Bjelland and Jennifer Finch (ex-L7 now OtherStarPeople) called Sugar Baby Doll/Sugar Babylon/Sugar hili Dog/Sugar Bunny Farm (whatever already!) that didn't last very long bvut a couple of their songs have been used by the new bands. Babes in Toyland use 'The Quiet Room' on a couple albums, and part of 'Best Sunday Dress' in 'Lashes'. Hole do 'Best Sunday Dress' as b-sides, live, etc. Also parts of Hole's 'Tupentine' appears in Babes songs, so it's pretty much that they're borrowing from each other, or stealing, as they both claim, the songs they wrote together. Kat has a co-write on Live Thru This, on 'I think That I Would Die'. Kat and Courtney are on again off again friends, and in a recent interview Courtney said Kat was pregnant and working in a restaurant, which is really really sad. BiT are on a semi-permanent hiatus, I guess, I think Lori(the drummer) and Kat are both in other bands, and tha latest thing to come from them is a 'Witchblade' soundtrack, which I have yet to find... Sadly, our dear friend Liz doesn't do well on the teevee. I love her to death and understand her each and every quirk. I'm sure she's fantastic live, though I've never had that chance. But she comes off either horribly stiff, dazed, off-key and uncomfortable-looking (Tonight Show "Whip Smart") or just wooden (Letterman "Polyester Bride"). I think it would be somewhat unlikely that either those shows' producers or the label would want Liz to appear again. Really and truly: Those bad teevee performances do much more to HURT an artist's career than not appearing at all. I detest Jewell a lot a lot a lot, but she does appear to have a soul when performing. Liz doesn't have "it," and probably ain't gonna get it. These aren't exactly scary, more suspensefull (which is much cooler, in my opinion): 1. Silence of the Lambs. Anyone who can sit and listen to Anthony Hopkins without getting a chill is sick. 2. Rear Window. Hitchcock was the master. 3. Twin Peaks. Someone mentioned the Bob character before on this list. He was freaky! Plus a show with a midget that talks backwards is a must see! 4. Carrie. Oh my gosh! 5. Spiceworld. OK, so I haven't seen this movie, but any idea of the Spice Girls getting their own movie is a little scary. Lovely SupSysters and Brothers, Re: if you could play just one Liz song to try and get someone hooked, what would it be? I finally had a chance to do this, just last night. The guinea pig was my friend Jared (remember him, JQ?), of Woodstock Peace Patrol fame (West Stage, Sat. night, "Jared, Cindy is here!") BTW, Brian Falk, please e-mail me privately -- I'm curious about your request for a tape of the pay-per-view. Sorry, I digress... Jared's picky about his music. Up until now he has mildly ribbed me for having so much/listening to so much Liz Phair. He hasn't responded well to what I've played (WCSE) while cruising around in the car, but I never made him "seriously" listen. Well, late last night we sat in my car listening to some tunes. Liz came up in conversation. I said, "Have I ever played Flower for you?" I hadn't, so I did. Amused reaction. Then while fast-forwarding, he heard the opening riffs of Stratford, and said, "Hey, that sounds interesting!" So I played it. Then for good measure, I also played Shatter. Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! He said he has a totally different view of Liz now, after hearing some EIG, when his only other exposure was WCSE. So my recommendation is: to get someone hooked on Liz, take your pick between Stratford or Shatter, or play both if you can. Re: non-Liz content (that I'm sure no one cares about but I'll say it anyway) -- our night out last night was a farewell, as Jared moved to NYC today to pursue an acting career. We sang karaoke at a local watering hole - -- did (don't laugh) Sonny & Cher, "The Beat Goes On." LOL! Within a year he will be modeling and doing a soap opera, I'm betting on it. I stumbled across this at RollingStone.com. Apparently Matador -- Liz's old home label -- is celebrating its 10th anniversary. However, they can't use any of her music, since Capitol now owns it all...and apparently they're not real happy about it. Here's a bit of the story: The only thing that isn't so nice about the compilation is the conspicuous absence of Liz Phair. Matador introduced the singer/songwriter to the world with the 1993 release of the groundbreaking Exile in Guyville, but Capitol Records now owns Phair's catalog, thus exempting her music from Everything Is Nice. . . "We basically don't make mainstream music." - -------- I found that very interesting and a bit of a slam on Liz.
