Certainly didn't mind since I got to see the Pretenders, Sheryl Crow, SM and Aimee Mann! Aimee Mann headed the 2nd stage. I couldn't believe it when I wandered over and found the place jam packed with 4000 people. Is that normal for the 2nd stage. When I saw Liz last year I didn't remeber that. Encouraging sign I hope. Any way she was FANtastic! Just Aimee, a keyboard guy and a certain guitar player form our Miss Lizzys band! Wasn't this mentioned before? She had to play a tape of the into to Just the Way You are, because she said they couldn't afford a drummer. But she actually lied because later on who play drums? Thats right Buddy Lee. Oh no make that Buddy Judge! How multi talented. Of course the "drum" was actually what looked to be a see thru mail crate facing the audience. Used metal whisks for sticks. And had a foot pedal! Great creativity. She said she bought her album back from her label and then called them assholes to loud applause. She said her record would be released in September. I'm a little late so maybe someone commented on this but the Rolling Stones sang it under the name "Star Star" on the album "Goat's Head Soup" released in 1973 and it was also on their live album "Love You Live" recorded in Paris in 1976. Oh you just replied to that yourself. :) I'll leave my comment for the live album. Ok I fucking hate it when some people ruin a movie for me so: Megan: > I've seen the movie twice in the past three days and I definitely feel >that the person in the corner was without a doubt Mike. I never thought one second it could be Josh either, I agree with all your arguments. I also think it's one of the best movies I ever saw because it let me use my imagination. Usually movies force on you the view of the writer/director and you are just a passive viewer, you are not required to use your brains. In that one, everything is left for you to imagine, that's what I found so great. I'm sure many people used to the standard Hollywood junk-movie in which everything is pre-chewed for them will be disappointed. I have seen people on other lists ask "what happened? Who did it?". The point is that it's up to you to decide what happened, a witch? a serial killer? a bear? you decide. That's the beauty of it. Just my opinion. :) Liz Phair!!!! Does >this contest have an actual purpose, or does it just waste time? [SNIP] >I don't think Liz winning this contest will help her be recognized in any >way. I don't think you should name it 'recognition'. That she should/will/does gain in other ways. However, I do believe this poll can have it's merits. On the mellow side, it serves some of the list population. Despite little time, I try to vote as much as I can. It's nice to get back from work to find that Liz has gained a few more votes, because you know that those votes are quite likely done by your 'fellow list-members'. On the other hand, when liz does end up near the top of that list, maybe it will spur some good confusion. Liz who? Maybe some lame interviewer will bring it up as a cheap question : Hey Liz, did you know you got to be nominated 'Hottest Female of 1999' ? It wouldn't mean much to her, but it might make her realize that she has a strong (international) internet-based support (system). I think that's dawning on her already. 2) DarkSideOfTheMoon and Katie Lynne : I'm certain Liz doesn't have e-mail. In relation to chapter 1 of this post : Liz is not internet-minded. On Sessions @ 54th Street(thanks again Roberta), when Liz asks the audience how tey got 'to be there', someone (Jason surely) shouts they got tickets through e-mail ; Liz says : E-mail...that's where I'm missing out the whole 21st century... I'm totally not there. I do know that Brad Wood has e-mail though. Because he wrote to the list once (either this one or to Guyville before SS' birth). Sadly, I haven't kept the address. 3)Blair Witch Project : As I live in Europe, I have not yet seen a trailer to this movie. Never read about it in any magazines, none of my friends have heard of it. Yet I know that at the utter ending either a character named Mike or another named Josh stands in a corner. How happy that makes me. 4)Very difficult Liz thread : Would it be possible for us (being the members of this list) figure out at what time approx. Liz wrote each of her songs ? Or at least when they were first performed ? I'm not sure what purpose that serves, though I'm sure Liz will not keep track of these things. So maybe we should. Here I tried to put up what I know. I really can't confirm if Liz will be doing any touring in October and I don't mean to start any rumors, but it does seem like it may be a possibility. According to a few posts on the Aimee Mann list, including one from her manager that was forwarded, Aimee is planning on playing some West Coast dates soon, but they have to be before October since that's when Aimee loses her touring band to other commitments. As we all know, Aimee and Liz share a touring guitarist in Buddy Judge, so maybe one of these other commitments might be a Liz Phair tour. I'm not aware of Buddy playing with any artists apart from these two, so it does seem possible.... Of course, another possible commitment could be to assist in the completion of Liz's new album, if it hasn't been finished already. Either way, this is good news for us.
