Olivia N-J totally broke new ground in the 70s. She, an Aussie, totally ousted Loretta Lynn as Entertainer of the Year in Country Music. (I'm a closet LL fan; I could watch Coal Miner's Daughter for DAYS.) She came out of nowhere as country girl (though I for one can't see much twanginess in her earliest stuff), then starred in Grease, getting a whole new following and completely reinventing herself as a pop diva. And Physical, as they say in the countdown, was soooooo racy for its time, which was why she had to turn it into an aerobics thing a la Jane Fonda for the video. It worked; ten-year-old that I was, I didn't quite get the significance of lines like: "There's nothing left to talk about, unless it's .... horizontally." I love when innocent songs unexpectedly turn sorta dirty. Like Afternoon Delight? The sweet gal sings: "thinkin of you's working up a [not 'an] appetite, looking forward to a little afternoon delight, rubbing sticks and stones together makes the sparks ignite, and THE THOUGHT OF RUBBING YOU has got me so excited." {she doesn't say this all the time, but at one point she definitely does.) > "Turning Japanese" was by The Vapors in 1979 (I > really think so) > HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I thought this was the funniest thing in this digest. You go, Patrick. by the way, I just thought I'd mention that "he's got a family who deals heroin/ and you're on the edge of your chair and ..." is one of the best songwriting rhymes I have ever heard. Liz is so good with those. - -sandra, whose Details is STILL missing. NP: Juvenilia _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kinda only for um.. hardcore PJ fans though..I wouldn't recommend this album to someone who has never heard PJ. Myself, my favorite is "RID OF ME" with "Dry" coming in a close second. I also REALLY really loved "To Bring You My Love" - and I thought "Dance Hall At Louse Point" with John Parish on guitars was really well done..like, i thought it would lose something without Polly Jean on guitars, but it rocks out. As for that new thing she put out..she named it "IS This Desire?" I prefer calling it "IS This Crap Really a New PJ ALbum?" I just can't get into it. I bought it the day it came out and have only grown to like one song "SKy Lit Up". The rest..I don't know..too cold. I just can't warm up to it. That album was by FAR my disapointment of the year. oh well..PJ still rocks I guess, I just don't get the new album. I'm all for experimental..but.. I'm used to more raw PJ I think. It's like she really tried to be experimental. that's just me though. PS - did Siouxie Sioux (from the Banshees) get anything on that rock show? she shoulda too. Her band the CREATUREs really rocks. Liz made spot 13 for "Exile in Guyville". Just in case ya'll wanted to know.=) - -tarleton _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. And then the other one is Welsh and 18 and cute in a little boy sort of way, and it's okay that you hooked up with him cuz you'r enot even 20 yet, so it's not that big a difference, but he should be looking up to you and kissing your as cuz you're older, but instead he's being a bastard, adn he should be so honored you hooked up with him!!!
