Unless you happen to do crack and happen to sell your body. I think her acting was fine. Now, Madonna. She's a bad actor. I saw her tryouts for "Fame (i'm gonna live forever, there can be only one)" on VH-1 or something. That was horrible. And my fourth grade thespian experience playing a bear that could talk. Oh, and that time in high school German class where we performed scenese from Pulp Fiction auf deutsch. I noticed when she got naked. I don't think I've posted any liz content for months now. I'm a bad person. I should repent. Speaking of Liz' sound changing: It's called evolution. Stagnancy almost always results in decay. Unfortunately, routine is far too common in our lives, so it offends the more inert of us to experience change. This is why we have conservatives. Well, not the only reason. Is it true that some of Liz's songs are in the movie Higher Learning? My sister swears there is! Also my sister said there were 2 of Liz's songs played on Party of Five, although you americans + canadians probably already know that if it is true considering you people are probably ages in front of us (I don't watch it though- very much a cry by characters every episode show if u ask me!). Also, if you americans on this list want to win Tori Amos/Alanis Morrisette tickets, there's a comp at chickmail. I've been wondering about this for a while, how the hell do you people get all this rare Liz Phair stuff? I've changed my mind about this old Lp vs recent Lp, I like EIG better than WCSE after giving EIG a good listen to. I don't know if this is true, but can you only get EIG and WS in Australia as an import because the EIG I've got is an American one and the WS at the place I got it from is an American one. That's all folks.........Sally P.S. I'm so glad you people like indie movies cause I only know about two people who frequently see indie films! You people are so lucky you get the opportunity to see Ben Lee live for free! He does that but doesn't do all-ages gigs in his own country, where the hell are his priorities? *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. *********************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 08:23:28 EDT From: RodAnte369@aol.com Subject: VH-1 and Lucinda Williams I think that is the first time I have ever heard anyone say the phrase, "VH1 rocks." But, anyway, since everyone else is busy plugging their favorite singers, might I name one of mine? Anyway, Lucinda Williams' CD Car Wheels On a Gravel Road was the best album that came out last year, in my humble opinion. I don't know how the Lilith Fair people snubbed her. Anyone out there that likes to hear country-rock-folk stuff should go out and buy this CD immediately. Her lyrical writing is top rate. With lines like: "You can't depend on anything really, there's no promises, there's no point/ There's no good there's no bad in this dirty little joint/ No dope smoking, no beer sold after 12 o'clock/ Rosedale, Mississippi, Magic City Jukejoint/ Mr. Johnson sings in a corner by the bar/ Sold his soul to the devil so he could play guitar/ He's too cool to be forgotten, hey hey", sung in a twang that crosses Loretta Lynn with Janis Joplin, absolutely a modern day classic.>>> i gotta agree. i saw her last month at the Fleadh Festival in NYC, and she absolutely rocked. plus, while she was playing, elvis costello made a suprise appearance, so it was the two of them harmonizing, which was a sight to see. the reason she's not doing Lilith is because she was on the Fleadh Tour, and opening up for Tom Petty. rod ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 10:09:44 EDT From: QueenB880@aol.com Subject: firewalker could someone please write all the lyrics to firewalker on the next post??? please, for me????? thx ~meg~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 09:44:46 -0500 From: "Nenette P. Luarca" Subject: blair witch didn't scare me Hi I'm going to have to be the one to give some counterpoint, but I saw Blair Witch and was disappointed. Maybe it's because I really wanted to be scared beforehand that I expected too much. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time in the woods to have a point of reference. I do really respect the *concept* behind the movie, the process, etc., but I don't think it was as good a *product*. I have still been recommending it to people because I do think it's worth seeing and I want to hear what they think, but I was disappointed that there is more information about the "Blair Witch curse" out on the internet and on the Sci-fi channerl than there was in the actual movie. ok I've said my peace. No Liz content in the letter, oh, except what the hell VH-1, Liz at #94? I mean, EIG is on everyone's list of albums of all time, she made it possible for people like Alanis Morisette. thanks for reading. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 09:31:27 PDT From: "M.L. Except for the person who kept cracking up behind me when they played the sole piano note for the billionth time. And the person who turned to a friend and said "that was the biggest pile of manure i ever saw." I was just talking to the friend about it and we agreed that tom cruise was the weak link in the movie's chain. If you can accept him as the lead, the rest of the movie falls in line. If you can't, it falls to pieces. p= _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? My sister swears there is! Sure enough. Don't Have Time is the name and it's played a couple times in the movie. Great song; one of my faves. Just saw She's All That with Baby Got Going in the beginning. Very appropo, I thought. I get to join the Blair Witch contingent (coven?) sooner than I thought. I'm going Friday. Then on to The Haunting Sunday, which a friend said is leagues better than he thought. Go Lili! Any Double Life of Veronique fans out there? That and Breaking the Waves are my favorite FAVORITE movies of all time... Anyone luck out and have tickets for the August Lilith dates that Liz is replacing Tracy Bonham for - I think it's the 14th and 15th. I'm still hoping someone pulls out of the show I'm going to Aug. 7 (well someone that's NOT suzanne vega) and Liz slots in, since I've never seen her. That's all for now. p- === "I've been frozen, now it's so hot I can barely see I've been cutting them down so they can't make fun of me, yeah." - --Liz Phair, "Russian Girl" _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In Dig the Music column They have EIG listed at No. 76 Sandwiched between Dolly Parton's RCA Year's 1967-1986 and Bonnie Raitt's NIck of Time. (Yikes, that would be pretty damn scarey on Liz' part if that were literally). This is what it says about the album and Liz: "Tough-minded, trash-talkin', prick-teasin' alt.rock before it became the fashion, Liz Phair's incredible voice - somewhere between Lolita and Annie - and reinvention of what a guitar should sound like went overlooked by the critics who hailed it one of the albums of the decade.
