Well, I wanted to post before the next SS Phair came out but, I just "got mail" so so much for that, this will make Saturday's I guess. Lots of quick tidbits and responses- First- I was informed of the beginning part to "Headache" , so thanks for all the hard work, but it's cool, I played with a local band tonite and asked them if they knew the beginning, and the singer/guitarist/moogist played it on guitar, told me a few notes, and we ended jamming out the song- It was sooo awesome, I can now die a happy woman, I even sang-what fun! Also I got to scream "violet" by Hole which was also loads of fun! I have to say that Allison DaisyFool has amazed me once again w/her musical knowledge-Ken Nordine -Colors!!!! Where did you hear/find this? I remember this from years ago when i did college radio at Trenton, but i didn't think anyone else knew this! Also, daisyfool - yes you got very lucky, when I took my driving test, i had a teach that was a real tight ass and failed me for my BAD parallel parking, so consider yourself one in a million! Congrats! Liz lives in Lincoln Park, she grew up in a nice area and is accustomed to a very comfortable lifestyle, perhaps the guys in Pavement did not have the same values or upbringings-it's not Liz' s fault for how she was raised or wants to live, if she is being uncool or unprofessional, that's one thing, but i think it is very unprofessional for SM to dis liz like that! I totally agree with that, i have always had people react strongly when i mention liz, that is if they have heard of her! Forgot the rest. Oh yeah, now I remember someone said the other day how "Big Tall Man" just screams play me on radio! Well, I have always thought the same thing- It is a very strong song. I love it and I played it today. i have started a new thing, I play Liz at the top of every hour that I am on the Air, it's lots of fun! "Big Tall Man" would be a great single, as would "what makes you happy" "Headache" and lots of others from that album, I think "polyester bride" was the wrong choice for a first single, maybe cos I have heard it so much, but it's not one of my favorites, matador fucked up! alright i am out everyone have a nice weekend! dp in nj np:time for bed by me! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 22:56:18 -0700 From: "dana polachowski" Subject: Re: support-system-digest V2 #186 > > Has anybody covered any Liz songs that anybody knows about? pansy division (they're in seattle, i think) has covered "flower" dp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 03:34:25 -0700 From: "Sally Mae" Subject: Pissed off with Chickmail.......... Anyway, Ben Folds Five are called just that NOT Ben Folds, sorry but it really annoys me when people call BFF BF, thanks to a certain Adam Spencer of JJJ and already BF gets too much credit for BFF, if it wasn't for Robert and Darren there wouldn't be a BFF! And, concerning that covers thing, you can't blame kids who watch mtv for not knowing the Lenny Kravitz song is a cover if they have never heard the song before! I myself have not recognised covers before cause of the same reason as I too am a minor *oh just shut up you're only 16*! I too get pissed off when bands/groups/singers make huge $$ and get recoginition/fame out of a cover. And, as for the Spice Girls, I fear that they won't go out after 3 years (Britney*I'm not plastic, I'm a Bapist although I wear virtually nothing in music magazines*Spears definitely will be!) and that they will unfortunately be in Microsoft Encartas and Encylopedias considering the amount of world-wide sales records they have broken. Courtney is not an attention hogger and she is very intelligent, any of her interviews will show you this. She didn't marry Kurt to get famous *Pretty on the Inside was put out before she even went out with him* and once again, KC didn't write Live Through This and Billy Corgan didn't write all of celebski* as Michael Stipe calls it*! She didn't kill Kurt and there is an investigation of it by a believer she did which I have a copy of because my friend, a Nirvana/Kurt worshipper, believes she did murder him*BULLSHIT!* and sent me one in order to attempt to convince me his death was not accidental. I was truly wondering why some women think men don't understand liz pahir. you should not hold back from expressing how you truly feel. I think any guy who subscribes to support system is going to have a much more open mind about a woman's right to feel that the majority of men DON'T understand where women are coming from, mainly because they never really took the time to find out. and if I were you, I would seriously question dating a guy who destroys your cd's, liz phair or not, but that's your call, so I'll take my nose out of it. >"Who else out there could do real justice to a Liz original?" > >Juliana Hatfield singing "Flower?" great idea! so, is anyone planning on going to the lilith fair in indianapolis? that's the closest show to me where liz is playing, and I can't complain about seeing sheryl crow and (don't kill me for this) dixie chicks. and sarah of course. oh, and don't let me forget susan tedeschi, I've only heard one album, but she has a great bluesy sound, reminds me of bonnie raitt. jason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 11:34:35 -0600 (MDT) From: Sine Ziegler Subject: She's All That Ok so a Liz song prolly does not grace " Next Stop Wonderland " but when I watched " She's All That " yesterday night, "Baby's got going" was played during the opening credits and practically the entire song was going. fuck the carbon monoxide decteor is going off. see yah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 13:56:52 -0400 (EDT) From: "Nicole W." Subject: Strange Loop? * More Liz Dreams * Etc. Yesterday... well I don't want to talk about what I was doing, because it is very traumatic in a shallow sort of... being thisclose to being dumped by a guy way... But anyway, I ended up somewhere and some guy was talking about a DJ in town called "Strange Loop" , and I was like "That's a Liz Phair song!!" And he was like "yeah... Liz Phair. She's cool." Whaever. Anyway, I was like "is this DJ named after the song? " And he said "no, 'Strange Loop' is some sort of philosophy proposed in some book, but I dont' remember what hte hell he said aobut it. So I was like "oh, do you think that's what the Liz Phair song is named after?" And he siad probably, but I mean I didnt' really expect him to know, I was just kind of talking to myself. So does anyone know anything about this Strange Loop thing? Last night I had more dreams about Liz... well one dream I guess. I'll spare you here, but I'm about to put it on my site, so look for it (go to www.angelfire.com/ca/DontWalk) One funny thing, though, is that in my dream, i was like "Why doesn't anyone think about who should cover Liz's songs? Why are we all discussing who she should cover?" And then I read yesterday's digest... the day before's... whatever you want to call it (because I didn't use the computer yesterday) and someone had already started hte discussion. Cool. Haha... there's this really butt (no pun inteded) ugly picture of alan-ass on AOL right now... she looks like a man... an ugly man. I just want to say, I enjoy the guy bashing on here because right now I'mr eally bitter about guys... I mean I really really really dislike the idea of guys right now. Sorry to say it, but it's true. It's fucking true. I'm currently having my heart broken buy one, and it's not fun in any way, and well... I do have certain flaws, one being relying too much on what other people (namely GUYS) think about me, and relying on guys for happiness, sso I dguess I set myself up for disappointment, but why are guys so disappointing? Awwf uck it, i'm going now, because I'm just now in a god awful mood. Yes, to the people who will be in or around London, let's have our own mini-Phfest. Not it! (fwd) hey nicole, thanks for emailing... "strange loop" is a term used in physics to describe two opposing forces that work together/against each other to create an endless loop that doesn't have a resolution, or ending. kind of like how some mathmatical equations spiral off into infinity to form fractals and fractal patterns when represented visually. to me personally, it also represents the duality of the human condition. good and evil, right and wrong, yin and yang, dark and light, (most opposing forces in nature and thinking) all work together/against each other to propel us down the path into the future. no path is the correct path to take when all paths lead to the same point. it also describes certain times in our lives when we don't know what decision to make. in some circumstances, any decision could be right or wrong. it's the action that you take and the trust, integrity, and intentions within yourself that really makes the difference. i hope this makes sense. when i chose the name to represent my music, i wasn't aware of the liz phair song of that same name. but i don't mind sharing it with such a good musician. :) tell me what you think... jason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 17:32:00 -0500 From: "Jorge (George) Cooper" Subject: London calling and strippers like Liz to No longer a Lurkenstein, 1) Liz fans unite in Europe !! My brother and I are going on a PAL tour (Prague, Amsterdam and London). I hate acronyms. I wanted to go on a FUCK OFF tour (France, Ukrane, etc.) but it would be too many cities and too expensive. I thought it would be funny to say "FUCK OFF" to people who asked where I was going in Europe. Anyway, I'll be in London from Aug 1 to 4. I know some listers are going. Let's get together if we can. Chipko, aka Mr. Concert UK, anybody playing that week? 2) On Liz vs. Pavement, I read an interview once in which Liz said she had just been jogging to a Pavement tape. So, she's a fan. 3) Hey Georgia Liz fans, any good shows in Atlanta July 11- July 16. I'm going to be there on business. 4) On movies: I watched a very original British movie called "Little Voice." Check it out at your video store. Hey Sine and Allison, "Next Stop Wonderland," is great. I have a copy of the movie and it definitely has no Liz song. Great music from Brazil. And Amy S., "Wonderland," also has a Liz look-a-like. Hope Davis looks a lot like Liz from the Exile days. 5) I am in love with Beth Orton's new album. I have a friend who met her at a South by Southwest party in Austin. She is very nice and a 6-footer !! She asked him to recommend a good Texas beer. Shiner Boch was the choice. 6) Strippers like Liz too......I have a question for you guys. Who is the strangest or most unlikely Liz fan you have met? I was on a flight to San Antonio last week when two girls sat next to me. They were nice and they told me they were dancers. I've always thought that was a dumb job title because we're all dancers when peppy. The difference is we keep our clothes on. Anyway, I asked them what kind of music they liked. One of the girls liked alternative. I asked about Liz and she in fact had Whip-Smart. Hmmm....I told her to get the best album, Exile. It's so rare to meet a stripper outside of her work environment, so I had a few questions. I asked one girl what she is really thinking onstage. She said, "What a bunch of stupid asses." She explained that many men who spend money on her at strip joints think she will go home with them afterwards. "Do you want to party?" they ask with a leer. She said that no one ever attends such a party. Also, a la Seinfeld in the dating-the-massage-therapist episode, I asked one of the girls if her boyfriend ever wanted a free show. She said a big NO. He wants her to act like a normal girlfriend. I think it might be too late for that.
