Leslie... the funny thing about your post about Stanford is that I had this psychology teacher who went to Stanford, and she was saying how at Stanford, everthing is abbreviated to like the first syllable of the first word and the first syllable of the second, like "Dining Hall" would be "DinHAll" or well there are better examples, but anyway I guess she's right cuz you were talking aobut FloMo and MemAud and stuff like that. I mean not that I doubted her, but I didn't really think twice aobut it, but now I am. For no apparent reason, except that well... I knowp eople in Palo Alto. That's not even wny. But that's a reason I wouldn't go to Stanford, because tis' too much baggage there for me... with the people I know there. Aren't you curious now? Ahh I'm just talkin. Anyway, umm... I think much cooler than Lilith CDs would be a video tape! I would possibly spring for that, but I have no intention of buying any of these Lilith CDs cuz I dont' like any artists except Liz, really. I mean a couple of people have mentioned Luscious Jackson, who are cool, but I'm not buying a cd for two artists, ya know? A videotape would be coolr because it would be more like the Lilith experience, and I'd just rather have a visual and an audio for some reason... I don't know. it just appeals to me more. I mean I am complaining about these other artists who are part of Lilith, but maybe I'd respect them more if i saw them play, because I would see how intense they were in the moment. >On the Girlysounds version of "Whip-Smart", what is the little tune Liz >is sort of "singing" before the song starts ? Hey people.... In a quick response about what Andy mentioned about Liz ever being in movies... I remember way back when where Liz mentioned she loved the behind the scenes work in making videos rather than being the subject so much. Maybe that's changed since the last few years. She even mentioned on her last appearance on 120 Minutes, "I love making videos....", but didn't go into detail about whether she liked the directing portion or the acting portion. In any event, I think it would be pretty schwangy to see Liz in a movie. I could totally see her as a villain though (I tend to be one of those people who think villains are usually more interesting). What do you all think? Here is the part about what Liz did with the Girlysounds tapes: Ben: Are your "Girly" tapes ever going to be released? Liz: Yes, I just gave them to Sony publishing to put out. So they'll be out shortly. So that still makes me think that (at least as of late 1995 or early 1996) Liz had intended, and Sony had agreed, to release her "Girlysounds" recordings commercially. No reference to them just being DAT copies. Was there some other reference to what the release plan was, or was this the last anyone ever heard of the matter ? Fingers crossed. Was there some other >reference to what the release plan was, or was this the last anyone ever >heard of the matter ? I remember Liz saying in an Addicted to Noise article in early '96 that she had had the Girly Sound tapes put on DAT the previous year, and seeing as how she maintains that she still has her originals but can't find them, I'm sure that the DAT copies are what she gave over to Sony (and likely Matador, as well). I don't know where Sony Publishing would fit into the picture when it comes to releasing them, though. At the time, Liz was under contract to Matador/Atlantic, and Sony's publishing division doesn't actually release records. Liz would, however, as part of her publishing contract, have to give them copies of anything she was planning to release to protect her publishing rights. Anyway, as for the 'Spunk' interview itself, it may have been published in January 1996, but I recalled it taking place earlier. I know this had come up several times on the Guyville list before I started 6'1", and going through some of the posts I still have saved from back then, I managed to find this, which indicates that the release in question was 'Juvenilia' and that the interview took place in May 1995: >From: gloria wong (email address deleted) >Subject: once and for all (re: spunk interview) > >or at least until this comes up again... > >hi all > >i've been really too lazy to post for a while - but i've had a bad weekend >so i thought i'd play know-it-all for a bit -- the spunk interview between >ben lee and liz - which, btw, is available through ross' liz page >(http://www.armory.com/~fisheye/phair.au.html) and on spunk ('back issues' >sections - give it a read - it's really a cool zine) >(http://www-personal.usyd.edu.au/~mwoodman/spunk/index.html) - i'd go for >the spunk one but only because you get the freaky liz-ben-ben-liz >animation) -- anyway, the interview took place in may 95. read it. at the >point in time that the interview took place, both grandpaw would (ben's >superduper solo record) and whipsmart (liz' superduper record) have been >released in australia and america -- there's reference to liz cancelling >her tour 'last year' -- ben is 16 -- liz makes a reference to the gs tracks >on juvenalia (one can infer - based on the fact that she says they'll be >released "shortly") -- liz *says* it's may right in the bleepin interview!
