I was informed of the error of my ways and have subsequently seen the light. Fortunately I received an outbid notice and do not plan on upping my bid. This does however leave me girlysound-less. One of the members e-mailed me to tell me not to bid on e-bay, but rather ask the support-system for assistance. She suggested if I send a tape, someone may be willing to dub me a copy. Pat also sent an email out to everyone explaining the lengthy delays.. everything from the sheer number of orders (something like 200 sets initially), problems with suppliers, a car accident that resulted in some lengthy legal proceedings (as well as cost)... etc. Pretty much anything that could go wrong.. went wrong. Anyways, at the time, no one else had come forward to make these CDs (burners were fairly rare and pricey at the time)... he had asked on the list repeatedly for a decent copy of Girlysounds (his copy was pretty poor to start with).. but again, no one came forward... and so on. I haven't had luck finding it at any of the major chains or the indie stores I frequent, and I've never heard of the label it's on before, so I ended up ordering my copy from CDnow. Since it's a benefit album for a Boston charity, it could be that it's only distributed locally there for the most part. Apart from CDnow, maybe some other online retailers are carrying it as well; I haven't checked that out yet. I can't wait to hear the Aimee tape -- do you need my address to mail it to? I agree that "feet" sounds better, which is what she sings on the album. I'm not sure, but I think she has been singing "feet" at most of the recent shows, but Buddy Judge always sings back-up on that part and sings "foot", drowning out what Liz is singing, so it's hard to tell for sure. I know it's kind of petty for me to correct this, but credit where credit's due, and KRS have done a great job with the band. Also, I recently saw someone ask on the list what a good starter disc for S-K would be. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of them, but _Dig Me Out_ is likely the best place to start. If you can't find that one, go for _The Hot Rock_, which is excellent as well. But seriously, what about us poor slobs who would kill for a water bottle that Liz had her lips on! (Sigh) And they even ASKED you if you wanted it?!? And you still said NO!?! Set lists, picks, broken strings, water bottles, toilet paper...... Anything! Give me Anything! hey, i got liz's LAST water bottle of the tour, after the encore at the cinco de mayo show. obsessive? maybe. out of line? no. liz is one of very few artists who is loved beyond her music. we love her as an artist. i think that any of us would love to have a pick, or a drumstick, or even a water bottle. believe me, i don't worship this empty plastic container. it is simply a reminder of that special night....when liz visited us penn staters and stole our hearts. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 03:55:41 PDT From: "jacqueline vreatt" Subject: peers i think that someone's website has a section "her peers on liz" full of quotes. is that right? anyways, in the new issue of Q magazine (it's british, i'm still in england)there's an article about chrissie hynde's favorite records and one of them is whip-smart! they're not exactly peers i guess, but close! chrissie hynde just shows the interviewer some of her favorites and then talks about them a little. here's what she says about whip-smart: "I love Liz's voice because she's obviously still grappling with it. She's like Morrissey: she's not a singer's isnger, but she finds interesting ways of phrasing her words. This is her second album and the lyrics are intriguing. Sometimes if you don't quite know what an artist is talking about, it can be irritating and self-indulgent but in Liz's case it's like she's drawing you into her web of sin (laughs). It has this very lo-fi sound which is music to my ears. It's like when you sit on the bed playing an electric guitar but it's not plugged in, and the neck keeps scraping against the headboard." very interesting, i thought! jackie _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I started to read the digests to improve my english. I have to mention that I live in Germany - a country where Liz Phair is hardly known to the average music listener. I am interested in every not commercially available song I can get (Girlysound, WCSE Session CD's, B-Sides, Bootlegs, etc.). This is the reason for this text: I wondered if somebody would be so kind to make copies of the collectable stuff for me. It would be nice (and the easiest way) to trade - I have a lot of rare R.E.M. stuff to offer (from the very early years on). I saw a set of Sunny Day Real Estate 7"s go for over $150, and I was just astounded, but that's why my maximum bid is never $150, you know? I mean, if you've got money to burn and you want stuff, then by all means, more power to you. I got a few weeks ago the Carnivore 7" for $26.36 and that included the shipping charge that got tacked on. I mean, wow. You can get lots of neat stuff at Ebay, and I wouldn't knock it. Everything in the world cannot be controlled, and the people selling the girlysounds may be rotten ruthless people, or they may just be people who've had a problem or unexpected accident or something, and one of the things that they have that is worth money is the g-sounds. I went through a period of time where I had so little money that I didn't always eat every day. I admit, I considered selling mine. I did end up selling most of my record collection, which sucked really hard, and all of my wicca books, which wasn't nearly as hard, but still crappy. So, I guess the point is, they may be fucks, but they may not. AND they're going to do it whether you bitch and moan or not. keely ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 10:13:49 -0400 (EDT) From: Tiffany M Wilson Subject: a coupla things Hey all, One-I've been listening to "Don't Have Time" so much lately. I never realized how fantastic this song is. I love how the structure is almost completly destroyed at the end. And Liz is singing something really high in the background over all the noise. Two-I have a set list (not a real one, but I wrote all the songs down) from the State College show. I'll post it when I remember to bring the paper to work. Three-Well, I've been reading a lot of slagging on ebay. Well, I don't think ebay is bad--at all. Some of the sellers are bad. Some of the buyers are bad. But saying ebay is bad is like saying such and such mailing list is evil just because you got ripped off by one of the people you met through said list. Ebay is just a way of connecting people with stuff to sell to people with stuff to buy. It can be a little risky (which is why I would hesitate to bid a lot on anything). But, it can also be a way to find cool stuff relatively cheap. I just 'won' an out of print Joy Division record and a hard to find (at least in the US) New Order record for cheap. Just like anything else, though, you have to be a little wary. Enough preaching. Four-I'm willing to make tapes for people who are looking for girlysounds and others. I know a guy that has a collection of 5 or 6 liz "officially released" bootlegs that he will CDR for $23 (includes postage).
