Then speed it up a bit... until the voice sounds like Liz's. It's Liz's voice, just dropped down a bunch of octaves. They can do that sort of thing, I think, by lowering the pitch on some kind of machine, i'm sure. But it is her voice, most definitely. I found that out once cuz I thought it sounded like her voice fed through a talkboy or whatever (you know... that thing Macauley Culkin has in Home ALone?) and so I just recorded a bit of it onto my computer and hten sped it up and voila! sounds just like Liz. :) Brilliant. As far as the new Star Wars prequel goes... it has to be good, Ewan McGregor (drool.......) is in it!! I'd take his Obi Wan over Alec Guinness' any day. Or shall I say... I'd take his light saber. Oh dirty thoughts go away... But I've seen him naked in two movies! The dirty thoughts return... In response to Emily's post about Liz being kind of rude... as a member of the concert board at my school, I can say that most musicians who visit a college act worse than Liz. At least in my experience. At least she got off the tour bus. As far as getting there 20 min. before showtime, she's touring with Nick right now, so I imagine she doesnt' like to leave him in the hotel or whatever, and it takes her a while to get away from him. He is, i must mention, 2 1/2, which means the terrible twos. So he probalby has some seperation anxiety issues. And unfortunately, musicians have a right to ask for certain things to be placed in their dressing rooms, and they're allowed to take them. just ask LL Cool J... who visited here last spring... well he never got off the bus and asked for everything to be set up a certain way. Why'd he want it set u pa certain way if he wasn't goign to come out? And then his bodyguard came out and took all the stuff. Aftershave, razors, food, stuff like that. Sandra... Loved your descriptions of Liz... I could totally picture everything you were talking about (having seen her do them, of course). Great stuff. And it's okay, everyone gets obsessed with Liz... she's just way too hot and cool... sigh. One thing is... she does those gestures like every night... I hope they don't get gimmicky. And both nights i saw her, she introduced firewalker and don't apologize the same. Exactly the same. I guess it's hard to be creative, but it felt a little contrived. That's all for now. I'm glad I said iw as going to bed at 12 AM and it's now 10 til 2. Ugh. Mike > She proceeded to say "Liz Phair is a bitch!" Now, of course I asked her what the fuck she was talking about (in nicer terms I believe), and she told me a list of complaints about what Liz had done at the NYU show. Some of the stuff she said was that Liz didn't show up for soundcheck, she arrived only 20 minutes before she was supposed to go on, she made a big deal about asking for her own dressing room and then didn't use it, and she requested some certain incense and candles and then took them with her when she left.... So what do you guys think about all that? I don't really want to believe that Liz was acting like Mariah Carey with PMS or something, but I'm sure this girl wasn't making it up, so who knows. As I eagerly looked forward to the Star Wars movie, I thought everybody else was as well. Then I talked to my 16 year old brother in law who told me he thought it looked "lame". Then I did some quick math and realized that he was born the same year as Return of the Jedi came out. This movie is going to have to win him over on its own merits...and not riding the coat tails of the previous films. This serves as a bit of a metaphor for my experience at the WPI show. It seemed as though there were many 16 year old fans at the WPI show on Saturday. Initially I was somewhat bitter that they reserved their biggest cheers for the new hits. How could they not? You have to be a pretty hip 10 year old to get your hands on guyville. When I was 10 I really liked Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Ozzy. Hopefully that amazing show at WPI will inspire them to dig their way through all the songs...and next time around they'll be the ones calling out for May Queen or Stuck On An Island. I still kind of like Ozzy -> even though some jerk in high school but the letter F in front of the ozzy I wrote on the desk in English class...turning my ozzy into a fozzy. I was a little nervous about the whole thing due to Liz's reputation and history of cancelling and our organization doesn't deserve that kind of bad publicity not to mention wasting precious funding. The show was fantastic and being the last of the year, and the very last for some seniors, we did have high expectations. Actually, I came across these a while back (completely by accident, honest--and I'm assuming we're talking about the same ones), and they really look nothing like her--the identification of them as her is amusingly far-fetched (much like the vast majority of celeb nudie pics out there [at least, the ones that aren't stills from legitimate films with sex scenes or accidental paparazzi panty shots] [and that don't contain Brad Pitt, Fergie, or Leonardo DiCaprio--those are real]). I was actually kind of pleased: does this mean Liz has hit the big time? Is your average, run-of-the-mill Internet porn hound really looking for nakey pics of Liz? That means he knows who she is! Cool! Sort of. (Her name is also sometimes used in those vast lists of keywords porn site owners use to get their sites to come up in non-sex related searches, which is why you'll sometimes come up with sex pages that *don't* necessarily have pictures of Liz au naturel.) Now I have to keep my fingers crossed that this isn't going to bring the trolls out of the woodwork. One so often runs into trouble when discussing nakey topics in Internet forums. It was an incredible night. I don't really know where to start so how about the beginning. My friend and i got there about an hour an a half before the doors opened at 8:00. As we were walking to get in to line i saw David Mead over by their van. I went over and told him how much i enjoyed his set last week at the 9:30 club. We talked for a little bit and he is a really cool guy. When we got in to line we were like 8th and 9th in line. When doors finally opened, we managed to stake out a spot next to the stage just left of the mic. David Mead came out and they played their set. They sounded really good. Even better then last week at the 9:30 club. Liz came on about 10:20. She had on a tight blue shirt and black stretch pants. I was about five feet from her. I was able to get the set list after the show so hear it goes. 1. Chopsticks 2. Fuck & Run 3. Johnny Feelgood 4. Mesmerizing 5. Cinco De Mayo 6. Flower 7. Fire Walker 8. Never Said 9. 6"1 10. Seven Vails/Go On Ahead (Didn't play Go On Ahead) 11. Glory 12. Uncle Alverez 13. New Rock -"Don't Apologize" 14. Polyester Bride 15. Super Nova 16. Whitechocolatespaceegg - -Encore- 17. Perfect World 18. Support System (Not on Set List) 19. Stratford-on-Guy 20. Divorce Song They really sounded good. Liz was on this French kick where she would say things in french between songs or speak in a French accent, it was really funny. At sometime during the show someone in the audience winged a video tape up on stage. I'm guessing their intentions were good but it hit Liz right in the chest. It looked like it really hurt and Liz had a red mark where it hit her. I was surprised how well Liz took it. She just kind of laughed it off. If that was me i would of thrown a fit of rock star proportions. During the encore Liz Dropped her pick and i was able to pick it up after she left the stage. I also made away with a set list, a drum stick, and Buddy's pick. Basically, I was grabbing everything that wasn't bolted down. After the show my friend and i waited out by the back door along with about a dozen other people. Liz eventually came out and was really cool about signing autographs and having her picture taken. I got her to sign the set list for me. One guy waiting after the show had a red miata with the license plate LZ PHAIR. He got liz to sign his plate. That was really cool. She was in a hurry so she kind of rushed around signing things. She still managed to give autographs to everyone out there. Then she said a final farewell and drove off. My friend and i waited another 5 minutes talking to people who where out there. Then Janet came out and we talked to her for about 5 minutes. She is really cool, and really funny. I got her to sign my set list to. She said she was kind of sad that the tour was ending but they would be doing the Lilith Fair soon enough. It was just a really great night. I went with the hope of getting her guitar pick, and i did. I now have the guitar picks of my two favorite singers. Liz Phair and Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. As if this post wasn't long enough i now would like to tack on 2 un-Liz related things. Sorry First of all, I just bought the new Beth Orton album Central Reservations. I must strongly recommend this album to anyone on the list. She got a great voice and is a brilliant song writer. Secondly, I've been hearing such good things about the band Sleater Kinney and want to buy one of their albums. Can anyone suggest which one of their albums i should get. Well i would love to stay and post some more but i'll spare you. Anyway i have a feature Length screenplay due in a week and i'm not even half way done(Gulp).
