First off I apologize in advance if this bounces. I can't figure out what the hell is going on? I was posting to support-system-digest@smoe.org because my daughter deleted the original message of where to post. When I posted to the correct? address, as Jason wrote, it still bounced. Do you know why Jason? Please let me know as I am getting gunshy in posting. As far as Lilith Fair remember Liz Phair was NOT an artist when the dates were first posted last year. Barbara Manning...who gives a shit if she doesn't like Liz Phair. What makes you so sure her quotes are accurate just because some magazine said so? On a Liz note, saw her last week in Holyoke! Great as usual although I couldn't fathom the audiences picking Go On Ahead by a wide margin over Dance of the 7 Veils. But she ended up playing both. Got tickets to WPI(or reserved) for Saturday. When I called about Wellesley I was told they don't reserve tickets nor can you charge on the phone? I almost sent out an SOS to our Massachussetts friends. My friend at work said he would drive up there from work(Hartford) if I got him stoned. Fair deal. So we blew off the rest of the day and turned what should have been 3, 31/2 hours into a 6 hour trip. And after this weekend it will be my 8th time seeing her. Yes I'm definitly sick, but I thought you would understand. I would have gone to Providence too, but I didn't want to get too far ahead of Ruthie while she was out of the country. Please don't bounce, Bill in CT ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 21:51:17 -0400 From: Jason Long Subject: Bounced message From: "Jacquicee@msn.com" Subject: Stole from Natalie M. Sorry to post(and bounce?) again. After I sent a message to the list, I read the newest digest. I couldn't help but respond to John Kims remarks about Liz "stealing" Natalie Merchant's move of shaking audience members hands. Are you really serious? You really think she invented this move? Get real. Too many people on this list seem to have a memory that only spans the last 10 years. Liz a trailblazer? In some ways, but have you ever heard of Patti Smith? The Slits, Joni Mitchell? What the hell were they? The trail started being blazed a long time before any of these artists. And each generation puts up signposts for future generations. I'm sure 10 years from there should be a few ladies giving kudos to Liz, just as I imagined Liz has her own influences. While I mentioned Joni Mitchell I would like to say I agree with Jason's opinions in total concerning her music and her bashing of other artists. All of your comments for that matter. I don't give a shit if people like Hole, Liz, Alanis whoever, you are entitled to your opinion. But calling people Crackwhore Sluts, Apes, etc. Please give me a break. My 2 cents, Bill in CT P.S. Was super busy for a bit, but things have calmed. I love all the latest concert reviews! I convinced a New York friend that she should do anything in her power to get herself into the NYU show last night... and as a good New Yorker, she not only talked her way into this sold out show, but was right up front. I got a call at work this morning, she had just purchased EIG, WS, and WCSE. Guess the show was good!! In a serendipitous moment, I was flyin into Chicago at night (I swear), reading this latest Jane Hamilton novel, and Liz Phair gets a mention in this book. ok, it's brief. just a fleeting moment when the main character as an adult turns to his much younger 21 year old sister who is married w/ child, living in the (Chicago) suberbs, driving a mini van w/ kenny loggins playin in the stereo... he turns off this music and tells her she needs to listen to some music she can fight with like Mahler, or Bjork, or Liz Phair. ...just thought that was odd as I looked up in the plane and noticed the grid of the city comin into focus.. guess i'll be driving to indy. for lilith fair....?? or possibly detroit? ok, enough from me.. see ya - jill ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 22:12:36 -0400 From: Jason Long Subject: Bounced message From: "Jaime" Subject: Liz Phair Underwear !!! Reading that post I found myself a little bit scared. *shiver* You really know how to put someone in their place. I agree with most... except anything about Jewel... I try to pretend I have never heard of her-- Jewel-- ? Jewel ? Oh, is she new ? Barbara--? Barbara Manning ?? Oh, is she new ? I'm sorry, it doesnt ring a bell. (I think someone named Barbara Manning has snuck onto this list under an alias to pick on Liz. I say we ask Candice Cameron if she knows anything... perhaps we can find Barbara and wash her mouth out with soap. I dont like the constant comparisons and the "she would never write a song just because she thought it would make a good single" jabs... come on Barb, chill out... Liz is okay, I'm okay, you're okay...Ok ???) >forever giving the snobby indie rock perspective... >big hug. >john kim I dont think I want a big hug-- are you going to stab me in the back? Tim Robbins! He was there- really! I was off to the left facing the stage, all the way up front, and he was there- he was so into it when liz was singing perfect world, he was like mesmerized by her. One of my friends was convinced he was going to get up on stage, cause she said she had some more surprises. but he didnt, he just went to the side of the stage. he was with a woman - 20 ish- susan was not there. I thought the show was amazing- it was my birthday, first of all, Liz on my b-day- what could be better than that! also, my brother who is a total music snob- really into musicians, zappa, john zorn, etc., well, he said he would come to the show cause it was my b-day and if i wanted him there he would go. he just didnt get what i loved so much about liz. well- he loved the show, thought she was adorable and cool and that she rocked! yay, finally he was able to see what we all do- everyone who i was with had a great time and really loved the show. I was curious to know what song that person said! thats cool- her banter is so cute and funny and witty- i like hearing her speak almost better than sing sometimes. oh, and firewalker is an amazing song- i think the lyrics are "in spite" also- thats what i heard- just amazing chorus- she was wearing a very cute (i know, that word again) black dress, spaghetti straps, with white flowers or something on it- i was kinda to far to see details- I am still coming off the high of the show... wow, the channel 4 news is showing women examining thier breasts right now- like totally naked- very weird- i think its great- but very strange- oh my god, they are showing a woman soaping up her body in the shower and examining, and a very heavy woman examining- if Howard Stern saw this, he will have a field day with this tomorrow. well, thats all, I forgot to get a shirt, and i am so upset and i need a copy of this or any other college show. i love may queen, its one of my faves, i would love a copy of this one- i love that she's doing different sets every night, thats pretty cool too. ok, i am exhausted after a week of b-day celebrations, i am taking the day off tomorrow too- later, Lani ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 00:02:23 -0400 (EDT) From: "Nicole W." Guess what Ms Spaceeggy Katie alerted me to? lilithfair.com has a link to my site on their liz phair bio page! But of course they linked to the wrong page on my site, but whatever. Better than nothing, like that Jen chick sings. Ha ha... I know I'm going to get shit for calling her that Jen chick, but I just wanted to phrase it like that. I just have to say, in public cuz I already sent a personal e-mail, that Nic-ole Dirty Bastard is my fave nickname so far... I think I'm going to start introducing myself as that. Hey will you all back me up if I shoot my neighbor, who is making fake beats on his computer, and it's the most loud, hideous noise ever? I think I'm going to lynch him! Two more things. PEOPLE: DO NOT QUOTE SOMEONE'S ENTIRE POST IN YOUR POST, UNLESS THEIR POST IS LIKE A COUPLE LINES! IT'S JUST NOT NECESSARY! AND IT'S UBER (i can't make that little dotty u on this program) ANNOYING!
