["Justin C" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 22:31:33 -0700 From: Dianne Devino Subject: Land of 1,000 Q's and New to List First, I'd like to say how incredibly thrilled I am to be back on a Liz Phair mailing list after almost exactly four years of not being on one (ONLY because I haven't had Internet access all that time). The list I was on back in 94-95, I believe, was called guyville. I think there were only about 15-20 of us on it then. One person on the list happened to live in the same tiny town I did at the time (Davis, California), which I thought was a cool coincidence -- it even turned out we had a mutual friend -- but, due to certain circumstances, we never met in person before I left there in August of 95. I wonder if he is still into Liz. Anyway, so hello everyone! Is there anyone else here who was around on the (guyville?) list back in 94-95? And in response to 1,000 questions, which is one of the first posts I have had a chance to read, I enjoyed your questions and your note about Liz being mentioned in a Jewel thing in Seventeen magazine. Regarding your question about Liz's husband, I thought he was a director -- that he directed the Supernova video. But I'm not sure. And the song, "I'm Like That," unfortunately, I have not heard. At the moment, my collection is limited to Exile in Guyville, Whip Smart, Juvenilia and WCSE (as it is commonly known on the list). BUT... In listening to WCSE, I have found myself wondering, more than once, and more frequently each time I listen to it if she is as a big a fan as I am of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. Has anyone else thought they noticed that particular possible influence on this album? I look forward to my next digest. - -- Dianne ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 01:39:59 EDT From: PRLJMR81@aol.com Subject: Re: support-system-digest V2 #118 In a message dated 4/24/99 10:19:47 PM Pacific Daylight Time, owner-support-system-digest@smoe.org writes: << someone's got a site where other artists comment on our lovely miss liz >> can someone tell what this site is, or th url, id really likt to know. a lot of people are posting about why they like Liz. my reason is just the way she can make you experience things without going through them. after listening to go on ahead, i feel i know what it like to have a child. And Im a guy anyway what pisses me off is that my friends dont understand. everytime i mention her name the're like " your obsessed" oh well the price you have to pay for likeing a good musician, meanwhile they sit around and sing "grease" songs. please someone shoot me! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 07:46:19 EDT From: TADude9999@aol.com Subject: Heard after the Millersville Show Hi everyone, hope your weekend rocked!! One thing I forgot to mention in my review of the Millersville show : If you remember I said that I was chatting with the bass player: He told me that after the show on Liz' b/day they all went out to celebrate at a bar and were playing pool. He and Liz held the table for two straight hours! He said she's really good at pool. That kicks! Just thought you might like to know. I guess it doesn't really matter. In both [situations] the fans are really supportive." it is good to know that the whole band is invested in the fans and not just Liz... Janet and Buddy have always been really cool to me, even though i am obviously lurking around to see Liz. I really liked being there by myself, the guys i went with needed to be near the soundboard so i stayed up front and kinda rested my forearms on the stage the whole time, it felt good to be alone, watching Liz rock. i was so far left that she never saw me, i'm sure she would recognize me, but she definitly doesn't know my name or anything. i also noticed how close she and buddy have become on stage, she is always turning to him to discuss things and they play off one another so well. anyway, i hope you all like the lyrics to firewalker, the refrain is inspirational in the happy-happy-joy-joy kinda way. [[[ Anyone else think that parts of friewalker sound suspiciously like Blood Keeper?]]] Don't Apoligize is also really upbeat and really *fast*, all i have from that is: hey hey hey don't even think about it hey hey hey don't apoligize Jaime, i am so in on the match session, too bad it can't be bi-coastal, i only have northeast, too... we should talk before then. later all KB _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
