My favorite X-files in-joke comes from the episode "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'". Instead, I will be performing such mundane tasks as mailing letters, getting an oil change, and changing an air filter and PCV valve. Gee, life is grand. I'm kinda ashamed to be a resident of Columbus at this point. Word is that we got canceled because Liz got overbooked. Why us? I'm suspecting poor ticket sales. Imagine that--after canceling before, not rescheduling for months, and not refunding money to those with tickets in the interim, people didn't rush out for tickets this time around. And saddest of all, if she does reschedule, how do you think that one will sell? Will any of the promoters even book her again? To anyone who gets to talk to Liz backstage at any of the other shows, please tell her that we're very disappointed, and she SHOULD come play Columbus, and soon. While people may still forgive her. Yes, she should play Florida, and California, too. But she should really start by playing the places that people have already paid money, planned trips, and taken days off work to see her. IMHO. It was so amazing! I went with four friends who are marginal Liz fans. They liked her, but not as much as I did. They love her now. My roommate kept saying how great of a performer she was. I kind of liked the opening band. I thought they were good, and the bass player was so hot we were all drooling! Liz came out in a little black strappy dress that went to about mid thigh and a little tulle kind of grey sheath over it, and what my friends and I call "fuck me boots," knee high black boots. She looked gorgeous!! Liz was very relaxed and said she liked playing for the crowd a lot, she "got good vibes" from it. She played the same set as it seems she has at all the other concerts. I really liked her new songs. I only took one picture because my friends and I went up to the stage and I didn't bring my camera. I didn't have anywhere to hide it and didn't want it taken away. I'm just praying that the picture turns out. The place she played was a small venue so it was really cool. She talked to the crowd a little and shook our hands. She is so cute on stage. During "Flower" she kept giggling. It was so adorable. I tried to get a set list after the concert, but there were no more. Oh well, I will always have the memories. I tried to hang out for awhile after the show because someone said she might come back out, but my friends had to get home to do work. It was a couple hour drive from Ann Arbor to GR. Well worth the trip though. I would go see her again in a moment. It was amazing! Alisha _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. If I were to compare this new song to any of Liz's past work, I'd say that it is probably closest in its feel and tone to some of the darker Girlysound material; it definitely doesn't bear much relation to most of the tracks on _whitechocolatespaceegg_. (few cheers from the audience...silence..) DAN(me) - "WOO HOO! It's my birthday today! Sing happy birthday to me!!!" LIZ - chuckled..."WEll..i guess i could sing CINCO DeMayo.." HAHAHAAH! and then she did her Cinco DeMayo. i was being totally obnoxious..but i think she got a chuckle out of it..she came over to our side once, and i got to shake her hand..she was so amazing..she looked great.. I did a few "Woo hooo's" at the opening - and she glanced over at one point and gave a little smile and nod....it was rather uplifting to see someone (even though it wasn't a FORMAL MEET) who i have idolized for soo long to actually send me some sort of acknowlegement. at any rate - it was a great show - the band seemed incredibly tight..she flat out just blew me away..my favorite moment (aside from the birthday LIE I told her..it wasn't my birthday - it was just a desperate attempt on my part for attention) was CHOPSTICKS - the opening..and probably FUCK AND RUN. It was totally rockin.. PERFECT WORLD was like..a beautiful moment too...her voice was incredible. She sang 2 new songs "FIREWALKER" and the OTHER new song was called "DON't APOLOGIZE". "DON'T APOLOGIZE" totally ROCKED out - gonna be incredible..i really hope she uses them for upcoming albums...at any rate - if anyone was there - and happened to tape the show - I would really LOVE a copy - for nostalgia's sake..hell ..my voice is on there..please email me and we can work something out..it was great..hopefully next time I can REALLY meet Liz - but that sure did work for one hell of a powerful LIZ FIX! That's why I'm dying to scan the setlist so everyone can see it. On the setlist, "Don't Apologize" is titled "New Rock" and Liz herself said, "Here's a new song, it's called Don't Apologize." (something like that) "Firewalker" was obvious, it's titled on the setlist. Julia wrote: "someone got a setlist after the show, but that someone wasn't me. she let me read it though, and so i saw that liz cut out dance of the seven veils in favor of either stratford or never said." I'm one of those people! She favored "Go On Ahead" over "Dance of the Seven Veils." Stratford was no where on the setlist, something she threw in I guess. In response to Craig's question about these two new songs, Don't Apologize really does rock hard but I liked Firewalker for some reason. Hopefully it will be on her next album. Keely also wrote: "I dont' remember any reference to "don't apologize" in the lyrics. All I remember is "Hey, hey, hey" What's the matter and falling out of bed, trying anything to take your mind off it." and it's a really rocking song. Same one?" Sounds like it! I love Tad's idea on identifying us Support-System. What else could we do? I've noticed some people have posted requesting Blood Keeper at her shows. Perhaps she'll realize this is one of her best songs and she'll go back to the recordings? Anyhoo.....Julia's story was really nice about how Liz wants to spend time with her family. Btw, when Craig and I were in the back, she was putting her flowers and teddy bears into some Grand Jeep Cherokee. Probably her family car cuz I did see a baby seat in the back. I never saw the hot pink poster go in there, even though I was one of the people who helped get it onto the stage. If you're going to get something for her, a bouquet of flowers is probably the best way to go, I think I saw about three or four bouquets of flowers go into the car. When performing live covers, does >one have to get the rights to perform the song, or is >it only if one records that particular song? If I'm to believe a musician friend of mine, covers are allowed to be performed live, mainly because it's financially impossible for a publisher to afford to enforce the copyright law prohibiting this. But if you record it, even live, you need to get permission AND pay royalties. Bowie did something intersting about this. I haven't heard it, but the title is not a Liz original. It's like "Greased Lightning" - she took the title from a classic song and based a new song to go with it - the lyrics AND tune are different (unlike "Wild Thing"). I happened to hear the older "Light" first - it's an old swing classic. I know Ella Fitzgerald has sung it, but the copy I have is by a kick-ass swing ensemble from San Francisco, Lee Press-On and the Nails. I love the words so much that I think I'll print them here... I never winked back at fireflies, I never (something, something), but now that the stars are in your eyes I'm beginning to see the light. I never went in for afterglow, or candlelight on the mistletoe, but now that you've turned the lamp down low, I'm beginning to see the light. I just wanted to add that we have already chosen ourselves a song, have we not? Doesn't it have to be Support System? But that would kind of suck, having her tell us, "I don't need a support system..." Then Liz could say something like "I see the fuckers are here tonight!" Good idea! Like, maybe we could all hold some sort of incendiary devices, and when she played "Supernova," we'd burn down the house (ala Talking Heads). Or we could all bring our favourite radiologist for "X-ray Man." Or we could induce labour on all the pregnant women for "Baby Got Going." My mind races with the possibilities... > By the way you can go to glowsticks.com and see the different colors > they offer. There really is a glowsticks.com? My prayers have been answered! It is one of the most beautiful, sad albums i've ever heard. They are soft, rocking lamenting songs.... anyone that loves Liz because of her candor will love Belle and Sebastian. The song "get me away from here, I'm dying" is incredible... Pixie ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V2 #114 ************************************
