It's better than looking generic. Yeah. So I've never thought about Help Me Mary in the musical scene context before. It makes so much more sense now. I had always thought of it as a woman trying to deal with those quasi-guy-friends (quasi friend, not quasi male) because I listened too closely to the actual lyrics . It's all about reading between the lines or so I'm told. Besides, after seeing some local chicks play around here I realized that they all have a song or two about the male dominated music business. That one line "they wonder just how wild i would be" strikes me as one of those things that women will get stuck with if they sing about sex. Instead of confronting any of this she just protects herself from it all and does her own thing, still trying to surpass them by their own standards. Okay, since I am going to see Liz again for the first time in nearly 6 years (yipeee!) I wanna know - if anyone has seen her on this "colllege tour" she is doing..what have the set lists looked like? I have to admit, I haven't been the best list-reader lately..exams suck. But now i'm back on track, ready to kick off the summer in the Phairest manner, so I am just wondering if anyone who was already lucky enuff to catch Lizzie on this tour can please post (or repost if i missed) a quick lil summary...please and thank you! :) the LOUNGE AXE sounded amazing...hope it's the same type of thing. see whoever is going in Grand rapids, april 19th! WRONG! I actually DID see her this summer at Lilith Fair in lovely Chicago - - and it was a wonderful show, i had semi-cool seats, but still..i didn't feel like i was REALLY seeing a Liz show..it was all songs I didn't know at the time, because it was before WCSE, and it was...not really intimate...and the first time I saw her in MIchigan at St.Andrews, I didn't even know who the hell she was! I thought she was a local michigan chick! so in a WAY this is my first time seeing her as a fan...but technically, my third. Gonna be the best though. oh boy. I think I'm excited. First stop the imbicile counter... Us: "Um, I'm looking for a book by Camden Joy. It's called The Last Rock Star or Liz Phair - A Rant".... Them:"Oh I'm sorry we don't carry that. But I can order it for you..." Us: "But this is Borders...I thought you guys had everything!" Them: "Well we usually do" Us: "Well fucking apparently not." Then its off to the magazine stands.....I looked in Alternative Press review and Alternative Press but be damned if i could find a article/picture of Liz anywhere. Which issue was she in? Then of course Playboy.....it was strange fingering quickly past glossy full color page wide pictures of beautiful naked women just to find a two inch high b&w picture of Liz cutoff midwaist, but Liz was the sexiest one in there. Most intriguing non-Liz related find - "Anything That Moves" The magazine for Bi-sexuals..... So i'm checking my e-mail at work and I get a message from my boss that is titled "System Support" and I'm looking at the title and my brain twists it around into Support System. I'm thinking Support System? Why is he sending me this? Is he a closet Liz fan? But no.....its computer info. For all of you who requested Liz Flats.... I haven't forgotten..just been lazy. I will try to get them out later this week. I almost forgot.... Highlight of the week: Having lunch (again) with Roberta from this list and hearing how she gets high by locking herself in the car and sniffing magic markers......(just kidding!) "But you didn't eat me cuz you weren't the monster." My 7 y/o son , yesterday. and as I'm typing this... "I can't get it out of my throat." All of my fellow guitar players know just how amazing of a deal that it. It's in perfect condition too. I got off a guy who had no idea how much it was really worth, and I wasn't about to tell him. But the first two songs I learned to play on it were Whip-Smart (like Liz performed on Leno), and X-Ray Man. I just got the Whip-Smart songbook too and Liz was right when she said the lyrics were all fucked up and misinterpreted. e.i. "your lips are sweet and slipp'ry like a sheriff's bare red ass" WTF is that? Oh well. It's just so funny how many of the lyrics were misinterpreted.
