So. Are we talking "degrees" as in "it's warm outside," or is it 69, as in 6969 - dinner for four? Thinking of the latter, it reminded me of S & G's "Cecilia" ("...making love in the afternoon with Cecilia, up in my bedroom"). Also, what's "Pirnir?" The blade had opened; Phair cut through the crap with candour that subsequent artists (they KNOW who they are) would use as inspiration. Discovering either of these albums at the time was like going for a walk with Joni Mitchell and getting ambushed by (PJ) Harvey, Courtney Love and Patti Smith. The plaudits rolled in; "Can't remember when a record sounded so legendary so immediately" (Vox RIP); "Liz Phair comes on like Polly Harvey with a sense of purpose and as much melody as attitude, rejoicing as she bites" (Melody Maker) and "Liz Phair is arguably the most original talent of the decade" (Billboard) are just three examples. Judge for yourself when the new album "whitechocolatespaceegg' is released on Matador (through Parlophone) on March 1. Featuring 16 new tracks, the album includes contributions from REM's Peter Buck and Mike Mills, plus Bill Berry and has a fuller, more punchy sound than before. The last word must go to the Phair herself; "I want these albums to stand as the diary of my life. Because, in the history books we're not present, we're not there, and that had a big impact on me as a young woman. In the history books it's all men fighting wars, and there's Queen Elizabeth here and there. It felt like the whole world of women was dead silent. I want to meet up with some people from the list but i dont know if there is a place where we can all meet up or if i can get there early. so how about we all get those "HELLO MY NAME IS..." name tags and write SUPPORT SYSTEM on them. That way we could see the tags from a distance and find each other during the show and start a support system rally. Let me know if you think this is a lame idea. Okay the thing I was going to say that I forgot was about "Wild Thing". You konw how we debate about Go West and the whole "sixty-nine in teh afternoon" thing... like is it the sexual act or the temperature... Well in "Wild thing", i am wondering... about a line... it could be either: "you made the boys' Spring" like you made that season for the guys... not like manufactured, but like when you say... "you made my day!" or it coudl be "you made the boys spring" like you made them get erections or something, or maybe just made them jump. okay i have to jet. later, Nicole p.s. don't miss me too much til sunday. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 18:31:01 -0500 (EST) From: John Kim Subject: Re: Dekalb On Thu, 25 Mar 1999 Msmrizing2@aol.com wrote: > all get those "HELLO MY NAME IS..." name tags and write SUPPORT SYSTEM on > them. May 5 = Cinco de Mayo. It's on my calendar. Veruca Salt......me was watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory today and there's some girl named Veruca Salt. Hmmmm.. weird or what? OH welll....I'll be out of town this weekend. I don't know if I'll be able to check my mail or not. Until then...find me in my funnel dream looking for Pluto. COME HERE PLUTO! HERE BOY! This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine suggests to the NYC Mayor's aide, Lloyd Braun or whomever, that everyone in NY should wear nametags...(he is fired after subsequent public derision). C'mon, Katie, wearing nametags makes people look like DORKS. And the same goes for everyone wearing a yellow shirt or a red bandanna. MEET UP somewhere before the show; it's the best way.
