I'm sure Liz didn't invent it, but I don't think it's beyond the reasonable realms of possibility (anyone get that obscure music reference?) to think that its usage by journalists could have something to do with the album/song. Pop culture has a way of picking things up from people without even knowing it. I tried to think of an example or two, but of course that would be too convenient. I'm not finished with all of them, yet, but it's interesting that in the first couple of years, you could basically write an article on Liz if you remembered to reference the following few items: "Flower," "Fuck And Run," her parents, her well-to-do background, a mention of the Girlysound recordings, her stage fright, her good looks, her intelligence and a couple of other things. I absolutely love that Ken has all these articles handy (you da man), but I really think pretty much every writer dropped the ball on writing something REVEALING about Liz. I'm reading all the articles because I plan on writing somewhat of a booklet about her (wouldn't call it a novel, exactly -- maybe an essay, or rather, a THESIS). I hope to finish it by her birthday, but that might be a little on the hubristic side. Anyone have any ideas about how I could send this to her without her feeling suspicious about "some freak" out there? Just have a few things to say. First off, thank you to brian for informing me of the the show at Northern Illinois. I just got two tickets and am psyched to see my first show. Been a long time coming for me. Now, I just need to find someone to go with me...? Secondly, to whomever mentioned Patti Rothberg "Between the One and the Nine", yes I have listened to the cd but I don't think it sounds too liz like. It's been awhile since I've heard the cd especially since the N through mid-S cds were stolen from our radio station over the summer. I remember it being more acoustic. Liz has a unique sound that I haven't heard from any other artist. Or maybe I just think that because I like her stuff. Third, I hope this isn't too long of a post. Fourth, I feel like a gomer asking this, but I've been looking for the girlysound recordings for years but never found them so I gave up. Now it seems that more people do have them. If someone would be so kind as to make a good copy for me (and I stress good), I would be forever grateful. I'm sorry to say that I don't have much of anything to offer in exchange as a trade except that I can pay for them. Please contact me through email if you are interested and maybe we can work something out. Finally, sorry for making this so long, but I have so much to say. My friend (for now) Siri from Capitol (I think they own Matador) sent me some promotional posters of Liz Phair for the Whitechocolatespaceegg album. It's B&W with her in this alcove. The picture is on someone's website I'm sure. Anyway, I kept one, gave two away for promotion, so I have two posters left. I thought this would be a good place to give them out. =) Anyway, contact me through email if you would like one. I'll probably ask for shipping and handling or take my pop cans in for postage. If I get a lot of requests however, I will only choose two people at random and notify them. Well, thank you for bearing with me on this. I'm outta here. === I love you Sorsha! Seriously, I did not have a clue what stress was until a few months ago. I've been SO busy and I'm not looking forward to seeing how many email messages I have received in the past few weeks. So, I've been loving "Tell Me You Like Me" a lot lately. I think that the line "tmylm, make me come down to earth" is so wonderful. My boyfriend went to Borders the other day and picked up about ten Liz posters for me. Half of them are square-shaped and the picture is simply an enlarged version of the WCSE cover. The other five posters are rectangular [I don't know the dimensions off-hand] and it's Liz in I think a tight leather ensemble. It's sexy. Anyhow, those are exciting. TAD--Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about your money. I love the tape, and as soon as I can get to the bank, I'll mail your $2.76. :-) Sorry it's taking me so long! Thanks a bunch. How's that for procrastination (5 years +) So I did an extensive name search of what's left for a title, until something struck me. If anyone has a page entitled "Complicated Communicator" (appropriate, say some) please contact me asap. Otherwise that's what will be used.
