"Did you send the CDs to me yet?" "Did the CDs get lost in the mail?" "Why haven't I received my CDs yet? I sent my contribution to you last week -- I'm entitled to my CDs NOW!!!" "Hey Ken, why don't you send me my f*ckin' CDs sooner?" Okay, I'm exaggerating just a little. Here's the deal. I am the only one actually producing the CDs, which is why it is taking so long for the CDs to be sent to people. Here are some figures: 155 different people have sent me contributions. As of March 18th, I have sent out a total of 53 sets of CDs. I have one set ready (I'm waiting for that person's response). I have 101 more sets of CDs to burn. When can you be expecting your CDs? Honestly, I don't know. I am sending out CDs in the order I received the person's contribution. However, when I am ready to send out your set of CDs to you, I will email you letting you know in advance (as I need to verify your mailing address, etc.). When you get that email, you should be expecting your CDs soon. I hope I didn't confuse everyone with this email. But quite a few wanted to know what is going on. It's a business. My main concern is that she will burn the bridges. from what i've heard there's a lot of annoyed people at the label and elsewhere. If a label invests in an act, the want something for that. "There's no such thing as a free lunch" etc. Her cancellation of an earlier tour of clubs and then her appearance on the Alanis bill upset people because she was seen to sell out. It sure looks like that. So, she's willing to play second fiddle to sell records, but not to play to people who really want to see her. I understand the family commitments, it's normal to feel that way, but my main worry is her decisions. Maybe the management is to blame. Certainly she seems to be doing some odd things. I'm sure she understands the needs of her fans at home and abroad, which makes the decision even weirder. Her problem now is IF she does decide to visit Europe later in the year, the label will treat it with suspicion and so they won't even make an effort to promote her in case she backs out again. After the tour fiasco last year there was talk of venues not willing to book her again after being burnt, image if the record label felt like that. I'm not self-important, just concerned. After years of waiting for an album and getting good reviews it could all be thrown away. Time will tell. Rant over. Frat boys like Liz? Now I see Frat boys in a whole new light. Our darling Nicole: Watch out, frat boys are everywhere. I too was introduced to Liz Phair in a frat house (1995, Ksig house, Uof British Columbia). And it wasn't like some guy came in and said "duuuude...this chick says the word 'fuck', man!". The guy who got a lot of us hooked on it was convinced that it would be women like this that would rise to the top of the music world soon (he was right, but too bad Liz didn't make the Diva show). That led to Juliana Hatfield, Belly, and Sarah MAC (our hometown gal who was still just Canadian then) being played in half the rooms on heavy rotation. They're the first people I call when one of them is coming to town (although you couldn't pay me to listen to Sarah now --unless sex is involved!!!!). And no it wasn't a gay fraternity (although we did have a couple of guys who were gay- just a note for the gays on the list who stereotype the frat boys as a bunch of homophobic neo-nazis). Chick Rock is alive and well in the frat houses of North America (or at least Canada) Fitting within' the stereotype though.........we did pay the Barenaked Ladies $300 to play acoustically at a house Beer Garden in 1991(this was when Stephen Page was really fat.......he also drank a lot of beer........although it might have been cider)!!!!!!!!!!!! Jase email me the Addicted to Noise article: I was kinda bummed that the dude Anders didn't quote what I said about the lyrics and how many women feel the desire to dominate and intimidate sexually, but few are able to express that, I also talked about the song itself and how many people DO base opinions of Liz on that song for shock value, that, to me, there is truth and beauty in her words in Flower and all of her songs. so instead he wrote that part about my knees shaking, which was so true, did I look like I was going to puke? Brian: I can't believe I didn't meet you?! we're you near Jill and Janet? yellow shirt with glasses, next to Jase?? you sent me a copy of Illinois Entertainer in the Fall, thanks. HENRY the bartender: Jorge ya bonehead, remember Saturday night when Amy's friend Dan was talking about Auginblik? Henry from PBride and Stuck is the head bartender there and we were talking about going there, silly! anyone who is in Chicago go to Auginblik! It is a slightly bigger hole in the wall than the Lounge Ax! miss you Jorge, now who am I going to pick on? Flower: (and Leslie and mark's questions) earlier in the show, people were yelling for flower and she would say "only if someone will sing it with me" and then she would not play it, finally she was like, "ok, we'll do flower, who's doing it with me?" and I was like "me me me" and everyone around me (being Jase Jorge and Craig!) chimed in "Katie will do it!" and the decision was made. So I hoisted my fat ass on stage and hugged her, getting a huge strip of glitter on my left breast which makes the pictures look funny... you'll see! (Leslie) on the back-up part.... we did the first slow verse, and she said quickly "now you keep going" so she actually did want me to do the refrain verse over and over while she did the faster lyrics. This did not occur to me until yesterday (you would not believe how many bits and pieces have been coming back to me) I mean, Janet was not there, but Liz needed a back-up! but I chanted with her anyway. (Mark) was I hitting on Liz? hmmmm... now that you mention it... :) no seriously, I wasn't. but of course I would sleep with her. who wouldn't? I bet even some totally straight women who never had the Bi phase would fool around with Liz, admit it!!! but I was physically close to her... ok, this is what it was like... it was hard! she is so tiny and I had my Destroy boots on, I am 5'4" but these make me 5'7" , I was towering over her and we were sharing the mike!!!!! the second thing I said on stage was "can I put my arm around you?" because I didn't know how we were going to swing it! but it worked didn't it? she is so sweet and I just love her. I felt awkward and had to bend over and hold my knee... at one point I felt like I was holding my leg down into the ground because it was going to jump right off the floor! my stage experience is limited to 8th grade plays and I have no (well, not anymore!) musical experience, so I was really nervous but the song is so steady, it was pretty easy to sing it along with her... she definitely recognized me from the Boston shows, but I still can't figure out if she knows my name - my guess is no or else she may have said it at least once, even after the show. after flower but during mesmerizing, I was still recovering, my heart was racing and I felt kinda weak, and she was singing mesmerizing and walked in between the speakers and up to me and I held out my hand and she took it so we were holding hands for a second, similar to my "pointing a finger" episode in Boston.... then she gently let go of my hand and looked right into Craig's eyes and then I looked at Craig and it was all like a dream! Jenny, I did scream for Blood Keeper, when she said, "this is a new one" I was sure that it was something from ken's CDs that we had heard.... but she HAS been recording again and it IS dark and deep like she said in that interview. "Conversation Overheard Between Two Bouncers" was amazing! I remember the words 'joyride' and 'sugar', but I was too out of it to remember any more than that. but we were all blown away by it. I also yelled "Go Speedracer!" and just for a minute she teased, singing the words "somewhere in the middle, in a race around the world" like on 12-1 when she started singing "hey hey we're the monkees" just for a tease before "I'm a Believer". She also said, "remember that song I did for that soundtrack?" and everyone was like "Rocket Boy!" and Liz was like , "nooo, another one" and Jase goes, "Don't Have Time!" and Liz goes, "yeah, Don't Have Time" but then she never played it!!!! Florida and the bear: She and Buddy left the stage and I was trying to give her the bear that Katie made her and sent to Craig... they did an encore, but couldn't get the bear to Liz, so I gave it to her guitar tuner/ road guy whose name I can't remember but I did meet him in Boston too. after the show was over, she went back to the mike and said, "Christina, meet me at the photo booth in front, thanks!" I mean, duh! where do you think the whole crowd was headed? so she starts heading out into the crowd and has the bear in her hand. everyone is crowding towards her, I pushed through and for some reason (maybe because I sang flower?) everyone was letting me through even though they were trying to get to Liz also. myself, Jase, Craig, and Jill got her in the first group picture and she was trying to get away from us towards the photo booth to meet her friend. she turned to me and said "thanks for singing with me, that was ballsy" and I was like "did I do ok? I thought I was going to fall" and she was like "you were fine, thanks" and I was like "wait Liz, I know you're leaving but I HAVE to tell you about this bear," pointing to the bear in her hands, "there is a girl name Katie in Florida and she KNITTED you this bear, for Nick, too.. she is convinced that you're never gonna go to Florida..." and Liz was like "I go there for vacation, but not for work" and then Jase came up and asked for another picture and she was like "I have to go meet my friend"... so I figured that she was gone... I had a beer with Buddy Judge, said goodbye to Jill.... but an hour and three beers later, Liz was still in the bar! so we caught her again on her way out and that is when she made the comment about , "oh, yeah, the international club" which I though was hilarious, because, I mean, just imagine... she starts seeing the same people at her shows, part of her was flattered, but she kinda wanted to get away from us, too. I am just being honest - and I hadn't seen that side of her before... Conclusion: The guy who interviewed me asked me if it was a life-changing experience... and I actually said no. First of all, I've had my words twisted around by the press far too many times before, I mean this guy seemed ok, but I was picturing him quoting me like "oh my god! this changed my life!" so I said "no, when I have a baby, that will be a life-changing experience, when I finally dive the Great Barrier Reef or lose a parent...I mean, yeah this night is gonna make my vacation, make my month! but there's more for me..." heehee - he SO wanted to print that it changed my life. so the fact that it did will have to be our secret for now! back to work in Boston.... was it a dream? boys, was it? I want to hear more about other people's version of it. did flower sound bad without the back-up chorus? and what did you all think when she said the international club? what does everyone else remember about "Conversation..." and didn't Wild Thing rock? and what happened to Don't Have Time? Jorge, what happened with Carol? (I have a cute picture of her talking to Liz - I hope you behaved yourself after I left! heehee, FYI to the list: Jorge was having problems functioning and had a mini panic attack before the show, but I whipped him into shape, didn't I, Craig? semi-kidding, whore, HEY! i need a copy of the lounge ax letter that got you in, pure comedy) Holy Shit! 6:50 and I am still here! the cleaning people are working around me! the ocean looks pretty from my window...
