What does everyone else think? np- Creatures- Boomerang ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 07:20:17 -0500 From: "Jaime" Subject: Liz Impersonator Hi List... I'm just sitting here early in the morning getting ready for work, so I said- Hey! I'll post!!!... I dont really have anything to post about, but that has never stopped anyone else, and it wont stop me! I wasnt lucky enough to hit the Lounge Ax, but last night I did have an incredible dream about seeing Liz live... *** I was running late for the show, so I ran and finally got to the place... I couldn't find the entrance, so I just ran in through a side door... I went through some long curtains, and there was Liz, rocking onstage, I was off to the side of the small stage, so the audience had no idea I was there... But Liz looked over at me and smiled. So out of respect, I found my way down to the concert floor, and watched the last forty minutes of the show. Towards the end, while Liz sang "Fuck and Run", she gave me a look and did that com'ere thing with her index finger... So I slinked over to the stairs on the side... and waited for her set to end, then I ran up the stairs and she came over to me... "Running late for my show ?" she said. "I am so sorry, I got a little lost." I admitted. "I've been late before, its no big deal... You busy? I mean, you want to go get a drink?" ---My jaw dropped... "Sure," I said. And so Liz and I went for drinks, I met Henry the bartender (a loveable fella) and we got completely *sloshed* by sucking down the greatfuldeads and long island ice teas. We laughed like school girls... And so it ends there... Because my evil Liz-loathing boyfriend woke me up to go to my hellish job in the sticks. Another thing, I am such a bad girl-- I often send Liz's picture when I meet guys online and they beg for a pic. HA_HA... Only a few times have I been caught!!! I cant help it its an addiction of mine. I have never had a complaint, its always -- send more--- oh your so pretty! Makes me giggle. Maybe its dishonest and evil, but its fun. Ah, must wash this hair, work is calling my name and my khaki's aren't ironed! - --Jaime a large hello to MrE and poor jealous Nicole... *it took an hour, maybe a --Straford-On-Guy-Liz-Liz-my-alter-ego ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Mar 1999 04:50:06 -0500 From: Peter Washington Subject: Re: support-system-digest V2 #77 Liz wrote: > i thought of this earlier as maybe a thread/general survey: what > is the liz phair related item you'd like to get your hands on? > maybe a recording, apparel, poster, photo, or memorabilia. i was > thinking that by posting, maybe someone who has what you want could > help out or work out a trade. I would have said the Carnivore 7" about two weeks ago, but then thanks to the miracle of the internet and my willingness to spend obscene amounts of money for what I want but don't need, I got it. Of course I don't have a record player, but the ability to listen to it wasn't really the point because I have about five copies of it on tape anyhow. So now my answer has to be a recording of that goddamn concert on November 30, 1998 in Boston! Somebody find one, now! A close second would be a recording of the Lounge Ax concert. Is anyone planning on circulating that? Sorry. I was at work today at my rather sad job as a mobile food service technician (there are those that call me "the pizza guy") and listening to Phairities in my office (there are those that call it "that piece of shit Nissan") and the old Girlysounds version of Shitloads of Money came on. This in itself was not remarkable, but then I realized that it was St. Patrick's Day--I think my splitting headache resulting from a morning of drinking followed by an afternoon of napping and sobering up so I could work (and therefore drive) responsibly served to jog my memory there--and toward the end Liz sings about Leprechauns and Irish luck and whatnot. I know. The story kind of fizzled at the end. Sorry. Stories are just vehicles for witty prose anyway. I know similar topics have been kicked around in this forum before, but I am going to respond (as will, I'm sure, others) because, seriously, you need to turn it down a few notches. If you want to be disappointed, depressed, upset, even pissed off, that Liz won't be visiting Europe any time soon, that's fine. I'm not gonna tell you to how not to feel. But look at what you said (and it's curious that most of it is directed at Liz herself): "get your act together"; "You can't treat people like that"; "[you're] in danger of burning bridges and [you're] in no position to do so". Now I don't know even the slightest bit about what went on as far as promises or commitments made, promotions discussed, or whatever, and I don't know what Liz Phair's reasons are for doing anything she does, but if you talked to me like that I would probably have a fairly confrontational response for you, along the lines of "Fuck you. I can do whatever the fuck I want, when I want, and I don't have any obligations to you, my fans, the business, or anyone at all other than myself and my loved ones." Now I know you didn't mean it this way (or at least I assume you're not a big enough jackass to have meant it this way) but you come off as pretty self-important, as if the bridge Liz is in danger of burning is that of offending you (and, by extension, her European fan base). I would suggest to you that, as an artist, letting the demands of your fans dictate your life decisions is the definition of selling out. Don't misunderstand me: you have the right to be angry. I would be. But if you think, as you seem to, that Liz Phair is somehow failing to live up to her duty as a rock star, think again. Rant over. She's saying she likes the process of using music as a kind of catharsis, coming to terms with one's life. Alanis does that, so Liz respects her. What song would you most want to sing onstage with Liz? Or, from a slightly different angle, which song would you most want her to sing to you? Obviously, as a guy having her sing Flower or Supernova to me would be ... well ... very, very cool. But then again, being in a small club and hearing her play Perfect World or Nashville for me and a few friends would be awesome as well. And as far as me singing -- not gonna happen.
