JASE - i finally met "the man" who brings us everything good that is liz! i just have to tell you 1 thing. during divorce song, i think you were adjusting the recorder around your neck, when liz looked down at you and gave you a quick, strange look. i don't know if she was disturbed by what you were doing or if she was just curious. whatever the reason for the look, it just struck me as funny. don't know why. don't mind me, it's late! :) to disko: now, does this review sound like something that would come out the mind of someone who hates the world? i think NOT! :) and, thanks again for the cd. i'm going to proceed to try to sell it on ebay! hahahahaah well, looking forward to reading everyone else's take on the whole night. trying to catch some zzzzzz's, brian p.s. liz looked great! she was wearing a shiny, silver, almost lingerie type top w/ spaghetti straps. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 02:24:13 -0800 (PST) From: Craig King Subject: Liz at the Lounge Ax review!!!! part 1 First off, I have to say that Liz's show at the Lounge Ax was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. A bunch of us list members met up before the show to be first in line for the show. Katie Brown, Jason Long, Jorge Cooper and I (Craig), were the first people in line and we stood at the very front of the stage directly in front of Liz. She was absolutely amazing, and looked gorgeous as usual. Liz performed one new song, and a few rare in concert songs. It was only Liz and her guitarist Buddy that performed. Here is the complete set list: 1. Glory 2. Girl's Room 3. 6'1" 4. Divorce Song 5. Wild Thing (from Girlysounds) 6. Johnny Feelgood 7. Dance Of The Seven Veils 8. Flower 9. Mesmerizing 10. Perfect World 11. Polyester Bride 12. Go On Ahead 13. Conversation Overheard Between Two Bouncers (new song, yes that is the title that she said) 14. Fuck and Run Encore: 15. Explain It To Me 16. Supernova (continued next.........) _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Ok, here's the rest of the review of Li's Lounge Ax show/ Liz looked so amazing and beautiful. She wore a short white top with thin straps, along with black jeans and black boots. We were all totally blown away by the show. We about hit the floor when she played "Wild Thing". Katie Brown from the list is now famous because Liz said said the only way she'd perform "Flower" is if someone got up on stage and sang it with her. So Liz picked Katie and the both of them sang the song dead on. Katie did a great job and deserves a lot of credit for going up on stage to sing with Liz. Liz did in fact play a new song that she said was called "Conversation Overheard Between Two Bouncers". It was a very dark and very explicit song that sounded like something directly off of Girlysounds. But it was such an amazing song none-the-less. It was almost a kind of trippy sounding song, being kind of mellow and dark. But it really was great. It's really hard to put into words how amazing the show and whole night was. Liz made her way out into the fans after her set, and we got to take a few pictures with her, got her autograph, and got to chat with her very briefly. One thing she told Joson Long is that she DOES plan on releasing Girlysounds in the future, but does not know when. So take that as you want to. But that was the jist of what happened at the Lounge Ax. Like I said, it's just too hard to put into words what that show meant to me and everyone else from the list that was there. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime. It's now 4:20 AM, so I'm going to bed. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!! Also, someone mentioned the end of Jealousy having the same guitar thingy as a Led Zep song. Even though someone infinitely smarter than moi probably already answered this (I was out of town all weekend and haven't read all the digests yet), I think it's either "Ocean" or "When the Levee Breaks". In other news, has anyone else had the displeasure of seeing "The Horse Whisperer"? I'm sorry to say that I did(burying my head in shame); however, all is not lost. There were two girls riding, you guessed it, HORSES at the beginning of the movie and they were singing "Chopsticks". One of the girls died before the got to the f-word, however, which is a good thing b/c my mother would've freaked out had a 12 yr old said FUCK. *gasp* Hope I didn't spoil the movie for anyone there. Also, I have a friend who is in a band in Indianapolis. First off, they're really really good (I'm not the only one saying this---they were chosen as one the top 12 unsigned bands in the US by the likes of Ani Difranco, Art Alexakis, Joe Perry, and Keb' Mo'). Anyway, I was talking to my friend, the singer, over the weekend. It turns out that they do TWO Liz covers--I know one is "Supernova". Dude only owns WS, so it is now my civic duty to force him to buy EIG and WCSE, right? I have respect for any guy who can sing a Liz song without worrying about loss of masculinity in the process. The band is supposed to be playing near here this weekend, so I'll post if they play the Liz songs. Sorry to ramble on, but I'm at work and it's Monday morning and I just can't seem to concentrate. But I will always treasure this perfect weekend in Chicago. The Liz show at Lounge Ax was better than anything I could ever dream. I met so many cool people and had such a great time. It was great to meet/hang out with Katie, Craig and Jason. Jason is so good-natured and funny. I see where he gets the patience to manage such a monster list. Katie is a whirlwind. She is fun in a nutshell. No, she is a nutshell. Craig and I had a lot of fun checking out Chicago, going to rowdy bars and dodging even rowdier homeless people. Craig is very laid-back and cool. Sally Timms of the Mekons opened the show and she has an incredible voice. Does anyone have any of her solo stuff? I want to check it out. We were all in the front row, center. It was heaven. Liz is even more beautiful in person, if you can imagine. She played all my favorite songs including "Mesmerizing" "6' 1" and "Fuck and Run." She sounded great and had a few surprises: a new song, "Wild Thing", and then........... The big thrill of the evening happened when Liz asked for a volunteer to co-sing "Flower." Our very own Katie Brown hopped on stage and promptly kicked ass. I've seen people do this before and they choked. Katie had the blood pumping and she rose to the occasion. "Flower" is a tough song for any fan to pull off but Katie sang flawlessly, not missing a word. I dare say no other Liz fan on the planet could have done a better job. It was magical. Afterwards, Liz gave her a big hug. People came up to congratulate Katie. She could be the backup singer for Liz. Janet who? Katie, I've got pics!! More good news. The best photo of my lot is the group pic of the so-called International Club dubbed by Liz herself. It's me from Dallas, Craig from Milwaukee, our beloved Liz from Chicago, Katie from Chicago but now living in Boston and Jason from Toronto. When I saw how good this photo came out, "Wow" escaped my mouth. This is one for the grandchildren. Liz is such a good sport. She is so nice about giving autographs and posing for pictures. I had a great time meeting other Liz fans including Heidi, Janet and Jill (you promised you would post). Katie's friends Amy and Maggie were very nice too. I'd like to give a special thanks to Craig for his story of refusing to give up to get tickets. His post of standing-in-the-cold-rain after the Lounge Ax had sold out prompted me to act after my initial attempts failed. Seeing what Craig could do with his positive thinking, I wrote an impassioned letter, " The top 10 reasons to sell me Liz tickets" that some how got me in the door. The entire weekend was big thrill. This was Jason's list at its finest hour. People in Chicago are so friendly and fun. I can't wait to go back.
