Neither did they win for an MTV music award...they went to the show anyway (you see, they already know who's gonna win beforehand) and in the post show show (heheh) they said "we're losers!" and did the little finger L on the forehead thing. I think that things would be weird if Liz Phair won a Grammy or some such...she wouldn't be so...INDIE...matador would have to drop her and someone like Sony or Geffen would have to pick her up and they'd release a special gold version of Exile and she'd be deign to play for fashion shows or whatever. Her quotability would go way down...she'd start saying things like "Me and Alan Hess, we're best buds...Alan Hess, you know..."Crooked Little Bill" and "Isn't it Oxymoronic?" the one who was on some kid's show in the 80s...Menudo or something. Oh, Alan Hess is a female? That's not her name? Alanis? Yeesh. I bet the kids in elementary school called her "Alan Ass" or something like that. You're not recording anymore? Good. Just between you and me, she sucks. I'm the one with a Grammy. Me and Homer Simpson. We're best buds..." d. www4.ncsu.edu/~djkim2 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 11:31:44 +0000 From: Ascending to the Stars Subject: i just might have something interesting to say.... alright, i just to reiterate how jealous i am of everyone going to the lounge ax show... all i can say is liz better get her ass over here.. and soon! but not too soon.. actually, she should wait a month. i guess i can't be too jealous seeing as how i'll be in rome in 2 weeks, among other fabulous places. anyways, i finally remembered something liz related i had to say... so i was making my way to a seat on the extremely crowded train to cardiff, wales, last friday, and i end up sitting down across the table from a guy reading a newspaper. he turns the page, and i look up, and what do i see-- an add for wcse with a pic of liz! so i ask him if i could have the ad when he was done reading, and he gave it to me, and i was happy :) i need more liz stuff for my walls here! all i have up are the pics that KB sent me (how are you honey? haven't heard from you in a while! i want a full report on chicago!). i think i will have to check some record stores for promo stuff, although i dont' think there is much floating around here... grr.... uh.. i want my computer from home that all my liz pics on it so i can do a nice cover for the ken cds. just what i need.. more stuff to waste my time on i haven't done any work in 3 weeks, isn't that great? oh, i wrote a paper the ohter night, but it doesnt count for anything, and i didnt' start it until after midnight hehehe MrE-- i would give you a full report on the PJ harvey show, but alas i will be suffereing away in rome or florence or venice at that point... i guess i will just have to deal did someone here mention that Sleater-kinney was opening for john spencer blues explosion? cause i just looked in time out yetserday, and the JSBE show is listed, but no sleater kinney with them :( and i want to know if i should buy tickets... i'll do a little reasearch on that... uh... that's about it. oh, a few comments on the recent discussion of the album wcse... one of the things i love about liz is how i can always find something of hers to fit whatever mood i'm in. now while wcse may be more produced, and the lyrics on different topics than were previously addressed, for me that just provides new topics and new ways for me to relate to the music. okay, i will admit, i could do with a little less production on what makes you happy, but its still one of my fav songs on the album, so i'll get over it. but, as always, everyone is entitled to think what they will... tootles! I think the girl (sorry I forgot who you are) had it on her web site. Please, pretty please with a chocolate chip on top :) This morning I had a great EIG experience. I was in my car parked by some highway, spending the time I had left before going to work by listening to EIG. I was so into the music that at one time during Shatter, I realized that cars were rushing by on that highway but I watched them like it was a dream, like it was another world. I was like in a bubble. Wow that was great. I got invited last minute to see Alanis Morissette in Michigan at The Palace a few nights ago. 6th row center - and I didn't have to pay a thing. Why the hell can't it be that easy to see Liz. Anyway, Garbage played for maybe a little over a half hour or so...it seemed like 10minutes, it was soo intense. The band was incredible and Shirley Manson was SOOO into her songs....I mean, I was a fan of Garbage before, but after seeing them live, and experiencing the energy they put into their songs - I'm completely blown away. I mean, when their set ended, I was like "Okay, I'm ready to go home now..." then I remembered "oh shit..wait..the main act hasn't even gone on stage!" Even the people I went with, who didn't give a shit about Garbage, thought it should have been Alanis opening for them. I mean, I'm not really a fan of ALanis to begin with, I only went cuz it was free...but she just didn't see to put the energy or intensity into her show...IT was wild...i guess this is just a promo - if anyone gets the chance to see GARBAGE - GO GO GO! It's worth every cent! taking out the trash, Dan. ****************************************************** "I guess it started off slow, but it's picking up speed, and it's gaining on me.. like a carnivore." -Liz Phair. ****************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 09:55:38 -0600 From: Kelly Warner Subject: *poof!* > Nicole posted: > >The photo of Liz > >isn't good because IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HER! However, I think the Grammys this year should perhaps be given just a bit more credit. I don't think Lauryn Hill is mediocre at all, and look how much she won! And finally Madonna won after all these years. And Sheryl Crow and Garbage were both nominated. Of course we'll all sick to death of that damn Titanic song, and maybe Celine Dion's music isn't quite your cup of tea (hey, it's not mine either!) but she is a talented woman. In a "perfect world" the Grammys would branch out and give awards to those unique artists like Liz who really have something to say.... but hey, it's not like Britney Spears won record of the year or something!
