Yippeeeee!!!! Hiya all....I'm so damn excited I just had to let you all know the great news. I finally got me hands on Whip-smart!!! I was innocently shopping yesterday and cos I had seen Whitechocolatespaceegg a couple of days before at a different music shop, i thought I'd check to see if this other one had it too...so I checked the "P" section and there was both Whitechocolatespaceegg & Whip-smart. I almost shit! I walked up to the counter to purchase my excitingly new find and the guy who served me asked me have I heard her latest album...I'm like...yeah of course mate she rocks. So then he tries to Liz quiz me, he asks me do I know how the title Whitechocolatespaceegg came about. I was so proud of myself, I came back at him as quick as a flash with my answer. He was impressed. I was excited. All I wanted to do was finish up shopping and get into me car to listen to me new CD!! Anyway people's....that's me story!! I believe there is at least one, if not two. One of the ones I'm looking for has Dar Williams and Paula Cole on them. If anyone finds this, can you let me know?< Hey, I have all of the "Live at the World Cafe" CD's, if anyone wants any particular songs taped let me know and I'll be happy to oblige. "Yippy! No guestbook jerks today! Had my share of guestbook jerks for the past two days. Has anyone ever had this problem?" We are not guestbook jerks. We are former presidents, mostly dead, and we don't appreciate being CALLED jerks just because you cannot handle our constructive web site criticism. If you have a guestbook, it goes with the territory that you accept every submission. You can't expect to always have positive feedback. Are you perfect? PROBABLY NOT! Probably fucking not. Even us presidents make mistakes. Of which signing guestbooks isn't one of them. Oh Citadel, oh citadel. Let me clear my throat. In response to Katie's post: 1) Liz's eyes are big and blue. 2) I wish Liz would talk more during her shows; her banter is always a highlight of each bootleg I come across. ("Don't I look like Alice in Wonderland-meets-an Adidas commercial?") Cindy's post about "Johnny Feelgood" was so right-on, I almost feel good about Liz Phest. The digest a few days ago that was *loaded* with comments about "Feelgood" was terrific. Mike Kaufmann's post was right-on as well. I don't have the actual article to quote this time (too lazy), but I do remember Liz saying what this song stems from. At the very PC (ugh) Oberlin, Liz was getting tired of the sensitive guys she was surrounded by all the time. So at the start of every new year, she was very excited to see the new guys -- the Freshmen -- driving around in their fast cars, apparently being assholes -- just because it was so refreshing. The song is about doing what feels right, ignoring societal pressure to date a certain kind of guy and, I daresay, be a certain kind of woman. It is indeed a very politically incorrect song. (Go Liz.) Has anyone noticed the thematic similarities between "Feelgood" and "What Makes You Happy"? In the former, Liz is rationalizing the relationship in her head, saying "I liked it more and more..." and just going along for the ride. In "Happy," she rationalizes a similar (or, perhaps, the same) relationship to her mother, but she softens things up, trying to make it sound as 'acceptable' as possible because she actually cares what others think (or, if you go by the live performances, she secretly *doesn't* care!). I could be a little off here -- I have a feeling I'm not totally understanding "Happy" -- but I just found it interesting to compare the 2. Speaking of "Happy," I have to agree that the 1997 version was much better. The final version does sound a *tad* bit overproduced. But my opinion is biased since I like the rock-band sound more than computer-generated stuff, of course. Actually, I'm coming up with a whole track listing that I wish Liz would've gone with. Not that it really matters, since both critics and fans (for the most part) agree that this is a fine record, but I actually think it's a bit disappointing -- not just in relation to her previous work but also considering what songs she could've included but didn't. I'd take "Freak of Nature" over "Only Son," "Russian Girl" over "Baby Got Going," "White Bird of Texas" over "Ride," "Bars of the Bed" over the title track, "Blood Keeper" over "Shitloads of Money" (or ANY song on the record), etc. I don't know what they were thinking. I have one thing for you, if you have a problem with me and my page, I'd prefer to have you come to me by emailing me instead of being an immature freak by signing the guestbook as one of the forefathers or the pope. Like that's really cool? Sorry to let it out to everyone on the list. Could everyone who participated in my poll last week please email me? I have something else to say.
