I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but Exile was proclaimed #9 out of the 90 best CDs of this decade!! I read this in Alternative Press magazine. Is that incredible or what?! However, I am not surprised. ;-) For those who are interested, #1 was Nirvana's Nevermind and #2 was NIN's Downward Spiral. Nicole is right. $7 (the approx. cost of the CDs Ken is graciously making for all who donated) is incredibly inexpensive for two CDs full of rare Liz. I can't wait to get mine. Oh, and to Craig, I DID buy Blondie's new album and I love it! I can't believe Deborah Harry is 52. Well, actually I can believe it, but... well, nevermind, the CD is cool. I love the live track of "Rapture" at the end. As far as the World Cafe CDs go, I KNOW they exist, but I have been unable to locate them. I believe there is at least one, if not two. One of the ones I'm looking for has Dar Williams and Paula Cole on them. If anyone finds this, can you let me know? On more of a Liz note, did anyone attend the February 15th show in Cleveland that Liz and Alanis performed at? A friend of mine told me that right before Liz played "Supernova", Alanis and her bandmates came onstage and wrapped Liz and her band in toilet paper. And later, during Alanis' set, Liz and the band came onstage, with their back facing the audience, wearing nothing but coats and underwear, flashed Alanis and her band during Alanis' "You Learn". It was enough to make Alanis forget her lyrics. Although I didn't attend myself, I can only imagine the audience reaction. I'm sure everyone was going nuts. Did anyone attend this? Someone may have mentioned it before on the list, but I may have overlooked it. I thought it was so hilarious, I posted it on my website. Before I forget, here's my top five favorite Liz b-sides: 1. "Waiting For The Bird" 2. "Oh My God" 3. "Hurricane Cindy" 4. "I'm Beginning To See The Light" 5. "Wasted" Although I listed "Oh My God" as a favorite, the only time I truly loved it was when she performed it on Squirt TV in 1996. I don't care for the demo version. Okay, that's all for now. I'll go back to my normal eavesdropping. Sometimes, ROBBIE "I can't get out what I'm into..." McCOWN THE SLICK DIVIDE - a liz phair page http://valmccown.com/lizphair.html NP: ..... And to those few of you who actually did express interest the first time around, thank you very much. Okay, so, here's the deal: it's either going to be May 15 or May 22, 1999. May 1 would've been terribly poetic, but too many folks will be too busy dealing with final exams at that point to attend. May 15 is almost as poetic (it's the very *navel* of the month), but I (and I assume others) will still be mired in AP exams. So at this point May 22 is looking like the way to go. Let's hope it's not too hot. Additionally, let's hope that we won't have to deal with the Cherry Blossom Viewing Crowd; I don't think we will, since the blossoms are scheduled to peak in mid-April this year, but I seem to recall the parade occuring towards the end of May. But I could be wrong. Anyways, if anyone knows for sure (heaven forbid I should look it up), tell me. I'm still thinking the National Mall is the best place to have our PhFestivities. If you think otherwise, please tell me. I'm not planning to do much more in the way of coordinating than setting a date, a time, and a place. I'm envisioning this as a one-day affair--I'm trying to make this as stream-lined and potential trouble-free as possible. It'll be a sort of trial run for the Chicago Phest/Fest/whatever you people are calling it and whatever other get-togethers are in the offing; we'll just get a bunch of list members in one place and see what happens. And if the worst happens, there'll be park police and/or transit officers around to break it up. I don't know about you guys (since you didn't e-mail me the first tiem around), but I'm stoked. I mean, since everyone else has been offering their guesses. I thought it was funny that other people said it was a "pick the very best one and you are it" or a jump- rope rhyme, because they were probably right... in their own region. Like, I grew up in a town 30 mi south of where I live now, and I know it was a 2-person clapping game, but when I asked my friends here, they said it was a "you are it" thing. Funny stuff... Keep in mind that I was writing them with the judges' expectations in mind, knowing that they were probably more keen on strong- female-views of empowerment-music stuff, since the contests were on Seventeen online and gURL.com. Anyway, they're kinda cheesy, but whatever. It's Liz exposure and I scored two free groovy discmen (is that the plural of discman?), so it was worth the potential humiliation. Oh, and I know part of the lyrics to Flower aren't right but I kinda just wanted to give a sampling, so they aren't quite consecutive, but I was also rushing and I didn't think anyone aside from you guys and other obsessive fans would notice. The first: http://www.seventeen.com/contests_quizes/590.html (mine's on the second page, I think)...the directions were to talk about the best CD of '98, and they also said that you wouldn't get extra pts for talking about the judges favorites, JSBX, Pavement, or Depeche Mode, but I managed to incorporate them anyway. I know it's super-enthusiastic and kinda cheesy, but deal. the second: http://mouthpiece.gurl.com/reviews/cds/lizreview.html ...the directions were to talk about a CD that changed your views on music or that you listen to obsessively...Interestingly, they edited shit, but not fuck....hmmmm... Anyway, I must plunge back into lurkerdom and do my shitloads of work while listening to the new S-K.
