I GOT MY TICKETS TO SEE LIZ IN CHICAGO!!! Believe me, I'm not trying to rub it into anyone's face, but you wouldn't believe what I had to go through to get these tickets. I must be the luckiest person in the fucking universe. Here's the story. First off, I got lost 3 times on the way there, because I live 2 hours away in Milwaukee. By the time I actually got there it was about 8:00. When I got to the door, the guy said that the show was sold out already. I was like NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked if there was any way at all to get a ticket, and he said no chance in hell. He said that people were lined up since 5:00 PM and that by about 7:30 there was like 500 people in line. So the bar gave out vouchers to the first 300 people in line and said that they could come back by 9:00 to get their tickets. The people who didn't get vouchers were out of luck. By the time I got there at 8:00, the vouchers were sold out. So I waited outside in the freezing cold until about 9:30. It was just me, my friend, and this other guy , who was super cool, waiting outside the bar. All of a sudden this woman, who worked for the bar, comes out and askes why we're standing out there. I said I drove 2 hours from Milwaukee to get these Liz tickets. She said hold on, let me see what i can do. All of a sudden she waves us into the bar and askes us how many tickets we need. I said I only need 2 tickets , and she made up 4 more tickets. Two for me and two for the other guy who was standing outside with us. I said thank you about 10 times when she gave me the tickets. She said were were extremely lucky to get the tickets, so I thanked her another 10 times. All I know is that I somehow got the tickets, and I'll be thanking my lucky stars tonight! Woohoo! I'm going to see Liz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. Craig "The KingAdRock" _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Lined up about 5:30pm for tickets (# 7). Luckily they gave out numbers (which didn't actually matter orderwise a little while later when you bought tix - After tix went on sale, the only way you could buy was if you had a number). It was a rather cold night to be lining up, Liz I caught a flu for you (heh heh). Several observations: There were a lot of guys in line (I was surprised anyway) - seemed like they easily outnumbered the women in line. Also, it didn't seem like there were the typical homeless scalper buddies. Although we did spot a known scalper buying tickets. It looked as if he tried to buy more than 2 - the 3 chicks at the table all shook their heads no simultaneously. I almost went up to them to let them know what scum they were dealing with. Apparently, the fashion show is AFTER Liz's set - at least that's what the Lounge Ax folks were announcing. See you there next month !!! As for Liz, rumour is late April, third week is looking likely, but not confirmed. The earlier promo tour was a non starter, that was purely a rumour. It was cancelled when they decided if she couldn't play then it wasn't worth it. It makes sense. When she comes over there will be a single release to coincide and she will also be appearing on Greater London Radio as they're (some of them anyway) are big fans and have been playing their imported and paid for personally copies of WCSE for many months now and that's partly a reason for her coming over and the album getting a UK release. The system is content to feed schools just enough money to produce a few kids that will go on to become great, and let the rest fall through the cracks" Which I totally agree with. The way schools get money is based primarily on your income taxes that you pay to your State. So, in effect you live in a poor neighborhood, for instance, the district receives about 2000 per student a year. Those children are in no way getting the same education as those living in a rich area were the districts receive 18000 per students. Therefore it naturally means that a diploma in one district is not the equalivant to the one of the next. Automatically separating students from grade one and once separated the gap just gets bigger and bigger. The system definitely needs teachers like Lani aka LULU428. Its not the teacher's or the district's fault. It's the good old Sam. Whenever programs are set for disadvantaged children in poor neighborhoods they are ripped apart by our Congressmen, because they have agenda's to meet like international trade agreements or building a new bomb. Our school system is the biggest form of segregation in the US. Pretty much summarizing if you don't have the money your kids won't succeed. Its a real shame. -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 08:19:06 EST From: SPaterno@aol.com Subject: Everyone /Aol people Hi Everyone, I was thinking, I listen to Liz more than I even really think about God, including Mass and praying. Pardon me for this pause in the Lounge Ax excitement/disappointment, but I have a tale to tell. First let me say that not since "Don't Have Time" -- and "Supernova" before it -- has a Liz song gripped me so. When I first heard "Blood Keeper" a few weeks ago, I knew I owed Ken Lee. If not for his efforts, god only knows how long it would've been before this track saw the light of day. On-line pals have gushed to me "It could be her best song," and "that one song is better than the whole album!" Indeed, it's with me day & night, it plays in my head. I write the lyrics on my friends' dry-erase message boards. I play it for my mom & dad. The first Liz song I heard was "Supernova" on MTV (I later bought the cassette single). My first impression, or my assessment, of Liz Phair was pretty retarded, but it went like this: "Liz Phair, she's really smart, but her raison d'etre is rocking & rolling. She's attractive, but in a girl-next-door way. She uses 'fuck' on record and smokes pot, so she's clearly anti-establishment. I want her records." For 2 months after that first dose, I wore out my "Supernova" cassette and was basically digging the intangibles (to reference Jorge Cooper's Voice, Lyrics, Music, & Intangibles theory). After I bought her LPs and loved them, another "Supernova" came along, this time in the form of "Don't Have Time" -- with its 3/4 measure, deliciously dry delivery, and that moment when Liz says "all of my beautiful banquet receipts have been laid out for me..." (those of you who love this song know what I'm talking about). Basically, I live by Liz Phair's songs, all of them, but really only 2 in the past really *shook* me, alone, for months on end. Now here comes "Blood Keeper," and I'm obsessed once again (more than usual, that is). Lest further proof of the power of 'Blood' be needed, allow me to share my first ever Liz Conversion (hate that term) story. There's this girl I go to school with here that I "visit" with on a daily basis, and the other night, I happened to bring over some CDs. Since she made me listen to Phish (which isn't that bad, although I'm not about to go following them around in a van), I figured I'd try some Liz. The first song I played was "Blood Keeper," and her first comment was "Is this Liz Phair? I had no idea she was so good. This is a fucking cool song." I played a bunch of other tracks, including "Flower," midway through which she asked "Is this Liz Phair, too? This is weird. But definitely very cool." The next morning, I went to gather up some people for lunch, and when I walked in the door, the first thing she said to me was "I've had that Liz Phair song stuck in my head all morning! And all last night, too!" She hummed a few bars, and it was "Blood Keeper." She went on to tell me that she'd heard *of* Liz, but had never heard the music. She mentioned something about last summer, and I said "Oh, because of Lilith Fair?" She said, "Yeah, that's why I so surprised last night, because she doesn't sound like Jewel. She's more... heavy. She reminds me more of Courtney Love." I'm sorry, I couldn't help but say "Yes, exactly." Now I'm making her a Liz mix tape, as per her request, and she says she's going to buy Liz's CDs. This is all because of "Blood Keeper," folks. If Liz doesn't somehow release this track -- on the next record, for a soundtrack, for some obscure compilation -- she is indeed insane, just like the people who helped convince her it wasn't good enough in 1997. Anyone who hates "Blood Keeper" and wants to voice their disapproval is insane, so don't even think about it!* *That's supposed to be a joke, so take no offense.
