And if people out there don't like what I say, doesn't it >make more sense for them to just dismiss me as an asshole than to get up >in arms about it? I think you may be misinterpreting my post... which is the whole problem I've pointed out. If I took the time to properly present my arguement this wouldn't happen... ;-) heheh... thanks for reinforcing my point... ;-D I don't think I would call it self-censorship... more along the lines of writing well. Most people do not take the time or thought to write what they actually think, nor do they present their opinions particularly clear or concisely. This leads to misunderstandings and complete chaos. People have to guess what you're trying to say and sometimes they guess wrong.... or they simply misinterpret what you wrote. Also, as far as I'm concerned, you can say whatever you damn well please.... but there are ways of saying things so that people will listen, and ways that will make people tell you to fuck off... it's called diplomacy. You wouldn't believe how many flame wars I've been involved in. It just goes back and forth... and the other people just continually seemed to twist my words around... When I took the time to explain each and every point I had to make, and to address their concerns... I suddenly had everyone agreeing with me. This isn't a tactic I would recommend for all situations. Just when people seem to continually miss your point... and when you have something "delicate" to discuss. eg. If you didn't like wcse, it might not be in your best interests to post "I hated wcse"... but if you worded it better.. maybe "I wasn't happy with wcse"... and went on to explain why... you'd get a constructive discussion going... I dunno... all my opinion and theories... ;-) later folks Patrick ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Feb 1999 05:43:30 PST From: "Chipko Arnold" Subject: Grand Rapids I'm not sure if i should reply to this..... >From: Valerie Barry >Subject: Re: grand rapids! > >chipko wrote: >>Still only the second most beautiful woman from Grand Rapids >>though! >as a native michiganian (michigander? does it matter?), i'm racking >my brain to figure out who the most beautiful woman from grand >rapids might be? do tell? .. It's kind of personal, but she IS beautiful. (heavy sigh!!!!). I won't name names, but i sometimes called her "mintcake" after a remark i made when she told me her name. You'd have to know about mountain biking/outdoor pursuits to know why, it was a strange name (to a brits ears) and i was trying to think of something to say. I don't know if she's a Liz fan, but i do know she likes the Mojave 3 and the Verve (we didn't agre on the last one). I think she's going to a community college in GR, but she was talking of transferring to (via) Chicago. Lizphest might be a very good excuse!!!! Have to go as my eyes are glazing over at the thought of her, aahhhhh mintcake. Primrose hill will never be the same again. Now i've shared that, perhaps we can all be friends again and end this fighting or this board will end up like postcard! This is the friendliest board i've known, let's keep it that way. Hope everyone had a good time at the Philly Liz/Alan-ass show. Liz was great. Most of the crowd didn't agree with me, however. I overheard quite a few rude comments. What do they know? Here's the setlist. I wish I had time to write more about it. Sorry. Chopsticks Fuck And Run Johnny Feelgood Mesmerizing Flower 6'1" What Makes You Happy Explain It To Me (Liz prefaced this one by saying that it was probably her favorite song that she ever wrote) Polyester Bride Supernova (Before Supernova, Liz said, taking on the persona of the average Alanis fan, "Songs about fucking!? Here comes another one.") Whitechocolatespaceegg Liz started her set at 8:04 (scheduled for 8:00) and finished at 8:45.
