(Or could have multiple sessions.) Although it probably won't matter, cause I probably won't be able to make it. Last year's was on Aug 5. cause I was there and saw Liz. Also, Some Florida people should get busy planning a regional gathering, cause there is a good chance I will be in Olando, on Aug 7-10, or so... hint. The State College, PA semi-regional Liz Phest will occur on July 7-11, or so, to coincide with the Central PA Festival of Arts(Arts Fest), which brings in a lot of musical acts, and possibly alcohol-induced rioting amounting in $50,000 in damages, like last year... and a good time was had by all, Josh T. Unfortunately, I've got limited disk space on the server for my pages so I'll only have room for a few files at a time, but I should be changing them every couple of days. Yep, thats a shitload of snow. Do you yanks have block heaters in your cars??? A couple weeks ago it was -45 degrees Celcius...... Oh ya I forgot America is still in the dark ages with the imperial system...---->>>why is that anyways?......metric makes SO MUCH FUCKING SENSE.....every measure is based on 10.......i.e. 0 is freezing point, 100 is boiling point (for H20). I understand that it is easier to describe some things in imperial--- such as height, and weight and yardage on a golf course... but any real calculation must be a pain in the ass using that stupid system.... I used to be a land surveyor (before I snapped and quit my job and went back to university) and I can not imagine trying to layout a building or a bridge using imperial. It is not nearly as accurate with all that 1/8 of an inch crap. Metric makes sense.... 10mm=1cm, 100cm=1m, 1000m=1km and so on....notice all the 1's and 0's. Wo, enough rambling on that...what was my point.....oh ya, there is a lot of snow up here and if we dont plug our cars in at night, then they will not start in the morning... Oh, I got tickets to the Tragically Hip benefit concert in Toronto.....(woo woo)....yep the hip rule baby!!!! That will be twice I get to see the best band in the world on my study week!!!! Anyone else love the hip??? Liz---LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ LIZ-----(I luv Liz) --- Current Phav Liz Tune:------ MESMERIZING--- (currently in EIG mode, slowly leaning back towards WCSE mode) Now----- I know a lot of people love the x-files out there.... I too enjoy the show......BUT, I do feel that the last season or so the show has lost its edge.... 2 or 3 years ago I was a die hard Xfiles fan (GO skully GO), I watched religiously. However, I feel the plotlines for the last couple seasons (with the exception of a few episodes) have sucked the bag royally. No heavy duty government conspiracies, no cancer man, no coverups, no aliens.....what is up w/that???? I mean that one about the guy who had to drive west because he lived by some submarine broadcasting station....That was stupid....is that all they could come up with??? Who in there right mind wants to see Mulder driving around for an hour?? How about the one where Mulder switches bodies with that other guy.......AHHHH, X-files used to be spontaneous, creative and mind blowing.....now it seems they have so many people hooked on mulder and skully's (I love skully) every last word that they dont even feel that they have to come up w/good story lines...Enough on that. "MULDER!!!!"........."SKULLY!" Oh, to Nicole ----- go to http://151.196.84.20/mp3/heaven.html ..... that site has refugee by tom petty, it is in the "R" (r for refugee) section.... Everyone can slam radio stations all they want for their many faults, but WHFS is a HUGE supporter of Liz. I can't handle hearing someone say otherwise. Polyester Bride was played throughout the day on a regular basis from the end of July when it was released through late October--well after she passed through town on her tour. At that point, the rotation slowed to occasional middays and evenings. She recorded a session of Just Passin' Thru (an acoustic/interview show on Sunday evenings at 7:30) for us in July (during Lilith) and that show has aired at least six times since then (including this past Sunday). The recording of Polyester Bride was included on the Just Passin' Thru cd which was released in November and that was actually the first song the station played off the cd. The station has its faults (like the programming dept. does not play a lot of the Boston bands I like -- Letters to Cleo, Mary Lou Lord, the new Juliana Hatfield, for example), but they are huge supporters of Liz. I apologize to the list for this lengthy commentary that affects on the DC folks, but I thought that a public response to this criticism was needed. Oh -- and to Meredith, if we have a Liz Phest on the Mall, I'll be there will all the Liz converts I've made over the last few months. And if I can pull it off, I'd love to catch everyone in Chicago, too. - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 19:38:40 -0500 (EST) From: "Stacey Wirt" Subject: 99.1 WHFS For all of you DC/Baltimore phans..... I figure that the ONLY time that any of us will hear Johnny Feelgood (that is if they play it at all) will be during this time... I get tired of his voice, but I LOVE "Refugee." So once, maybe last year or earlier this year, I don't remember, I tried to get an mp3 of that song. I mean, I don't want a whole tom petty album necessarily, but I thought it would be nice to have that song. So I don't know if that makes me bad. Oh but I never found it. But honestly, I don't imagine a pairing of Liz and Tom very...amazing. I think that would be an odd sound, and possibly not good. Sorry, I just had to respond to this. I'm not trying to start any arguments. It's just that Tom is one of my favorites and his lyrics mean so much to me. His music has gotten me through some tough times in my life. First off, I love his voice. It's so real, like Liz. I hate listening to artists like Celion Dion and Mariah Carey who have these perfect voices that annoy the shit out of you. Sorry, it's just the way I feel. I think Liz and Tom would be great together. Both are great songwriters that write alot about relationships. Granted Liz's lyrics may be more raw, but tell me a TP song like "I Can't Fight It" couldn't have been written by Liz. I think the sound of Tom and Liz together would be unique, and really interesting to listen to. Well, I'm not going to prolong this issue any more. When someone takes issue with TP I have to say something. I'd do the same for Liz. Craig "The KingAdRock" _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I understand that she needs one for a song like WCSE, but why does she need one for most of the other songs. I think it lessens songs like Stratford and Supernova to have her guitar part replaced by an organ part. I liked it way better in the old days when it was just Liz, Casey, Brad, and Leroy on stage. The songs sounded more raw and powerful I think. Don't get me wrong, the musicians she has now backing her are great, but I's take the raw energy of the old days over the more polished sound of today. Maybe it's just me. BTW, that doesn't mean I don't want to see her in concert now. I'd die for it! (well, not really) Craig "The KingAdRock" _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
