I'm so glad someone else mentioned that retardo girl in the background at Sessions, because I was laughing the whole time when I was watching it. Between her and that earthworm of a host the show was quite amusing! Just think, if we saw that girl so clearly on TV--imagine what Liz was thinking everytime her eyes glanced in that direction! True, that girl was kind of in back of her, but if I would have seen her seizures while busting out Polyester Bride--I probably would have messed up the song!! On another note---screw the Grammy people for overlooking Liz--how much fucking positive feedback do you need to get a nomination??? I have not read or heard one BAD thing mentioned about WCSE---I guess record sales really do buy you a Grammy nodd. I'm so pissed about this because people like Sheryl Crow get like 5 nominations and Liz isn't even mentioned. No offense, I know there are a lot of Sheryl fans on this list, but come on guys, that album is decent, but not Grammy material. I guess that's what a hit single does for you. But it's just as well, because I like Liz the way things are, a Grammy would just "Alanis-cize" her! So I had to rely on my bro to tape sessions for me and I just got it yesterday. First off, I've always considered mr. byrne strange but man, he was really as spastic as I thought he would be (yes, I am a TH fan - speakingintongues is a great album). Considering the only Liz I have seen are her music videos and her perfs on letterman, leno and rosie, this was a treat. Yes, she should have played guitar on mesmerizing, would have sounded much fuller. I like the way they improvised and filled out the songs. I tell you what, the drummer really drives her band, simple yet powerful. Polyester bride seemed a little faster tempo than what I've heard it played before and I think that song benefitted from that. 6'1" was a groove, once again the improv and more harder rock approach was very satisfying. Johnny feelgood didn't come off as good as I thought it could, but that is a hard song to duplicate considering its studio quality/production. What makes you happy was great, not necessarily the song, which was alright, but seeing Liz kick off her shoes, dance, smile and let loose put the BIGGEST fn smile on my face I've had in quite awhile! I say this without hesitation and with all my heart - Liz has to be one of the most real, honest and beautiful people I've seen. Not just beautiful outside but inside too. You can tell she is real, not fake like so many "rock stars". I hope she never looses that quality, I don't think she will. All of you guys who have had the chance to actually meet and talk with her, I envy you! I don't ask for much in this world but meeting her would be a dream come true. You know, if I was like dying and had just one wish to be fulfilled (and please don't think me selfish), I would ask that I could play my guitar and jam with liz in person......I would die a happy man........ - LIZ, FLORIDA AWAITS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 10:45:58 -0500 From: Megan Brown Subject: s-k the new Sleater-Kinney single, "get up" can also be found on the cd inside the january issue of CMJ magazine with Beth Orton on the cover. the song kicks ass. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 13:22:04 -0500 From: "Nicole W." Yep. Every time I hear "Johnny Feelgood" and "Fantasize", I swear we know some of the same people. Both of them remind me of a guy I once knew, was best friends with, asked to be my "gentleman of honor" in my wedding, and nearly had an affair with, who, surprise surprise was named Jon. Actually, all of her "Johnny" songs remind me of him. Coincidence or do we really know the same people? Or maybe all John/Jon's are alike. Aside from those songs, there are a whole host of single Liz lyrics that are just so perfect, "It's harder to be friends then lovers and you shouldn't try and mix the two 'cause if you do it and you're still unhappy then you know that the problem is you" works PERFECTLY for the above mentioned person and situation. I actually gave him a copy of "Divorce Song". But a whole host of other lyrics remind me of other situations and other people. Liz is the only artist and even the only writer who has the ability to capture my exact moments so perfectly. I've heard her (on 120 minutes and Sessions) about how she tries to capture an entire in a few moments and I have to say she does it wonderfully and better than anyone else.
