Don't get me wrong, I don't WANT to be pessimistic... it's just a character flaw of mine. Although, I've always wanted to go to Chicago. But on an un-liz related note.... JASON, I read that post Jen submitted to the Jen Trynin message board and I IMMEDIATELY e-mailed her (or whoever REALLY reads them). I hope she doesn't fade away. She's one of the few true musical acts out there today. I knew about the Warner Bros. split for awhile and that's when I first feared something like this would happen. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Jen continues to make good music. I had this fear when I first heard that Liz was pregnant. I feared she'd fall into that abyss that famous people who start families seem to fall in. Fortunately, the release of 'whitechocolatespaceegg' erased any doubts I had about Liz's career. He rides a bike to see and be part of the country, not to get fit or win races. I liked his reasoning, plus i'm not too speedy on a bike so i adopted his way of thinking. Sounds odd, i know, but it's a great cartoon strip, even if you don't like bikes. Of course i'm a Python fan, i was raised on the stuff. You raelly don't want to be near me when i go to buy cheese, or book a holiday! I saw Gillian walking down Highgate High St once and it was the day after seeing Munchausen. I wanted to shake his hand, but it was a Sunday and he was with his children, so i just smiled as i passed. I've also met Palin. I stood with him in the rain and helped get him a taxi! one evening. Does anyone like Kate Bush? All this talk of AM being a poor version of ours truly, brings to mind the Tori vs Kate argument. Kate was a major influence in the UK in the late 70's. she sang, frank, explicit and startling songs for someone so young and at that time. When Tori turned up all the UK music press were quick to point out the similarities. So check out Kate, it's worth it. She had a best of, but "The Kick Inside" is a great album, as is Hounds Of Love and... well all of them. I'm off now (huge cheer from the rest). Bye for now.... ... Hello, travel agent. I LOVED that cartoon as a kid until they brought in Scrappy who just sucked the life out of the show.. So I'm picking up on that thread for a moment here. Does anybody remember what the "analysis" of that cartoon was. I only remember vaguely: Thelma is the intelligensia of sorts. smart, but not too attractive. always solving the problems before others, but letting Fred do most of the talking. She often knows the most, but never actually challenges openly the power structure. Fred is the power structure: rich (it's his van or at least he's always driving) and attractive, he's the only one with a mate (Daphne) to ensure survival of the race of beautiful people. he and daphne go together in the sense that they are the powerful pretty people who never actually get their hands dirty but come in at the end to solve the mystery and take most of the credit. they will make good politicians someday. then our beloved shaggy and scooby who represent the MASSES who do all the dirty work for "snacks" snacks being either drugs of some sort to keep them controllable or something. or, if you're a marxist, i guess snacks could be tv. (opiate of masses to be painfully clear) i like drugs better (as far as the analysis, not personally, except for that time...never mind) so, given that liz loved the show could we find a link to any song? thematically, that is. that would require heavy lifting and i gotta go back to work so i'll leave y'all to ponder that. Cause my copy has her saying "a tour with a bus and hotel rooms" before the song starts. Does everyone's copy have this, or is mine just special? As for whoever started the thread about beautiful female singers.... Beauty is certainly a factor in her sucess, I mean, if you look at it from the studio's perspective, they are going to try their hardest to market their talented singers. And if she happens to be pretty, then they will just push her even further cause she's got a better chance of being successful in the celebrity world. It's true - somebody did a study on how beautiful people succeed sooner than "normal" people in today's society. Any Liz fan who has not heard of Jen should give either of her two albums a listen. You might like her a lot. "Bed" by Juliana Hatfield - another recent thread. I was one of those who put this album on my 98 top albums list. This was the first album by JH that I bought - I have since purchased "Hey Babe" as well. The first listen i liked a couple tracks...by the third I loved most of the album. "Ear Candy" - certainly, but not in a bad way. I saw something in the lyrics in that they were sometimes very bitter, sarcastic and lonely-sounding, but not whiny or bitchy. Delivered in a soft, girlish voice like JH's was strange - almost surreal (for lack of a better term). Some of the tracks sounded like they were put together to meet a deadline (they were in fact - this album took about 3 weeks to make according to one source) and some things, particularly on the instrumental side, could have been improved. Nevertheless, the final verdict was: This album rocked my ass. I became an instant fan. But I have rambled long enough. Later Liz-philes.
