Liz never had a falling out with him that *I* know of -- she always speaks fondly of him and the days when he and Brad and Leroy and Liz were a band. The thing is, Liz had a bit of a falling-out with Brad (Wood) when she canceled a tour that he had agreed to take part in. I think he'd passed up the chance to produce somebody's record just so he could tour with her at the time, and when she canceled the Whip-Smart tour, it pissed him off. But of course, Brad & Liz are pals again... Casey is - big shocker - apparently all into his DJ/drum-&-bass thing now... like, the guitar is in storage. I don't get it either, but oh well. He'll always be cool. (He doesn't work for Brad, but as with Brad & Liz, there don't seem to be any hard feelings... my god, I'm talking like I know these people personally... holy shit.) I have a copy of Liz's performance this October at the Avalon in Boston and it sounded almost exactly like the Sessions performance. Right down to the band and even her changes in inflection. She just looked very uncomfortable up there and that made me uncomfortable. As my mom, who watched it with me, said "It just didn't draw me in." Well said. As for the Lounge Lizards, Bleh!. Like all of ours probably has. Which look does everyone like better? The long, darker hair look of 1993-1996 or so, or the shorter blonde look of the present. Personally I liked the long darker hair look of 1993-1996. I just think Liz Liz lookes even more beautiful with her hair really long and dark. For me, it would be no problem. I live in Missouri, and Chicago is a mere 6-8 hours away. It would be such a kick if Liz herself actually showed up there, just to chat with her a couple of minutes would be a dream come true - like a teenage girl getting backstage passes to an N'Sync concert. I would also bring my acoustic guitar, and I could crank out a few tunes (I don't know any Liz songs yet, but I'm workin' on it). Someone would have to give directions to everyone who is planning on driving there out of state. Hey guys, TO JORGE: Well being on both the Jewel list and the Liz list is quite amusing at times to answer your question. Other than that, sometimes it's just pathetic--especially now. With all this talk of the Liz FuckandRunAthon (I like that) it makes me think that Liz is totally the kind of person that would dig that...if she found out about it. I like this list so much because you people are intelligent, and while you like Liz (a whole lot) you make very intelligent posts, and raise interesting questions. On the Jewel list, first and foremost there are 10X the people, so it's not so tight---and people are EXTREMELY critical of Jewel. For the last two weeks all people have been posting about is how she's changed and how her music is going in different directions---well no shit sweethearts!! You don't sell 10 million albums and then record your follow up in a coffeeshop like the first one!!!! I get upset about these people-(and no need to offend anyone on this list that is on the Jewel list as well), but sometimes people are just retarded! I mean, you like and stick with an artist because they envoke something in you that nobody else does. If you are truly admire someone, you don't bash their clothes, or their hair, or how many times they shrug their shoulders in interviews. These big stars are just like you and me--they wake up with messy hair and bad breath, the only difference is, they have people waiting to make them bueatiful. The Jewel list has pretty much sucked for the last few months because of people forgetting why they on on that list in the first place. I like this list, because at least when we bitch about something, it actually makes sense. Sure we might comment on cancelled tour dates, and weird outfits, and weird gigs (Alanis), but we all still know and dig Liz because she inspired us in some way, no matter what she does. So if all those 10 million Jewel fans could remember that-----I could have it all, if I only had this much! ***Amy*** ps. Chicago is the obvious choice--but it will take lots of communication and work to pull this off--hope everyone is willing! _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I have to say I am very impressed by the amount of time that some folks have to write in and keep up with everyone. Given that I too remember the 80s rather well, I am old enough to have a job that takes up all of the time I would rather be spending chatting with y'all bout my favorite subject (that would be liz,by the way). In fact this whole digest thing has seriously affected my work (not good when you bill your day to clients in 6 minute increments.) But since you all seemed rather taken with the new trier info I'll tell you another story about liz. First though, I must beg your indulgence. I was trying to figure out what the deal was with my obsession with liz (till i joined up with all of you and realized to my delight that i am not alone!) and then I read her bio and it all made sense. I've been "following" liz (unconsciously) for years. I was born on April 17, I went to high school on the North Shore at the same time, I went to a small liberal arts college in the midwest (with a fuck and run attitude!), I majored in Art History, and then went back to chicago after graduation. Sadly, the pattern ends there as I can't really sing and am not, nor have I ever been, even remotely as cool as Liz. But still, I thought that was pretty freaky and at least gave me the right to be a member of the Phan Club. what do you think? but you've been patient so here's the story: My friend (orignally from chicago) was a DJ in vermont (he'd interned at XRT for those from Chicago) and loved liz back in 1993 and she went out to his station for some interviews etc. so he was driving her around and mentioned that his dad just loved her and could she autograph the cd etc. Gary said that Liz was completely taken with the fact that his dad was into her music. She just thought that was the coolest thing ever, and signed her cd and some head shots for him. So my friend was pretty much more in love with her than ever at that point. (duh!) i'll try to get some more dish from him about that time with her if i can ever find his email. late, lisa - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ----- This electronic mail transmission contains confidential information intended only for the persons(s) named. I guess PBS can't air a song that hinges so much on the word "cunt" and "blowjob." Obviously, no "Fuck and Run" either, then. In fact, they only had to bleep her once tonight for Johnny Feelgood. 'little drummer boy' is not usually mentioned in the same context as arousing, but very few have the knack for pulling off sensuality as well as tori amos. but that's just my opinion, i could be wrong. or it could be the medication. and i do think liz was stunning on 'sessions'. she seems to have found her 'center' since performing here in centrally located lost angels last fall. and on a personal note to liz: you need to barefoot it more often, you unleash the lion when you slip off the pumps! (unleash=let go, lion=wild, slip off=remove, pumps=high heels. get it jorge?) centrally located, MrE not a mayqueen - -----------------butt-------------------- "uh, knock it off beavis" - ----------------head------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Jan 1999 23:08:12 -0500 (EST) From: Nicole Weisberg Subject: Chickens Did anyone else notice that girl that was on the left hand side of your screen during sessions? She was seated, wearing like a blue sweater and jeans or something? She had NO RHYTHM and she was rocking back and forth totally out of time with the music? That like ruined the show for me! It was so fucking annoying! Sorry if you are on this list, but it's just true. I know Im white, andI can't dance, but I have a concept of the rhythym of a song, andif i don't, I won't rock back and forth out of time on national tv! Argh. Umm... shit what else was I going to post? I don't think I'd be allowed to do thsi lizfest shit anyway, but I gthink that the obvious location is chicago. That's Liz's roots! Ya know? SHIT! I HATE IT WHEN I FOREGET THINGS! like how to type and what i was going to say. forget it. - -Nicole ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Jan 99 22:24:06 PST From: "The Human Cannonball" Subject: blather regarding v2#3 Hi folks - I have a few responses to posts in ss v2#3: LANI wrote: >They opened with 1999 and did an excellent rendition, sounding >just like prince and sheila E (was it her on that song?) No, not Sheila E. It was Lisa, of Wendy & Lisa (only THEY know which is which). Prince didn't hook up with Sheila E until later. By the way, those of you who have only heard the cd version of the "1999" album, you are missing out on a truly great Prince song: "D.M.S.R." It's well worth seeking out; the album is just incomplete without it. MrE wrote: >i'm glad i can't remember the eighties. Let's call it "EuroLizney" Several people wrote about "that host guy" on Sessions, indicating that said peoples were not aware that they were in the presence of true greatness. That host guy is, of course, none other than the truly amazing dadid byrne. If you believe that he is just weird or on drugs or without personality, then I order you to go out right now and rent the movie "Stop Making Sense." Talking Heads in Austin (1983) was absolutely the greatest live show I have ever seen. I caught them near the beginning of the tour; "Stop making Sense" was filmed on the 2nd half of the tour (in 1984), but the film documents a show very similar to the show I saw (when I saw them, david byrne hadn't adopted the "big suit" thing yet). David Byrne is a truly gifted performer. Also, of purely curiosity value, watch the film byrne directed & starred in, "True Stories." But watch "Stop Making Sense" first. KaTiE wrote: >Grammy nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 5. >Gee...who are we hoping that will get nominated. I don't care if liz gets nominated or not. The grammies are the epitome of the "popularity=quality" argument (I swear, I knew someone in high school who used to argue with me that ABBA was better than the Beatles since they sold more records.) More recently, we have heard people use this argument to state that alanis is better than liz. The grammies have rarely recognized true talent over sales, which in my eyes greatly deflates the value of such an award. ANyway, it has the readers pll resuldts and the criticks picks, and the only mentions of liz in the whole thing are teh artists' picks. Two artists, art alexakis and some guy from semisonic, picked her album as one of their five faves of '98.
