Wow! That's what I like so much about this list! We can always keep it rolling with trends and all. Which reminds me that I have one I'd like to throw in. Must respond to #134 first! ();) Nicole, your response to MrE of him paying you for your posts sure cracked me up! Gee....and how much is mine worth? Hmmmm.... a half a cent per word? Nah! I wouldn't bother! Liz camp. Sounds cool, but........my mom is so tight on me. You know, with me being the baby of the family, letting go of the youngest is so hard. gaga goo goo! *sticks thumb into mouth* Anyways. I'm all for it, but how about setting up camps into states? Like have one for just for the Phans in Florida and another in New York. blah blah.... After we all have gone to our fests, we can review them to the list? For it or no? Oh well...not thinking straight here I think. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Hmmm..and what would I do? Sing. 'hem...*clears throat* nah! Robbie, I like your renovations on The Slick Divide, but your links to the lyrics are missing. Whip-smarty inside? I like that phrase! Oh yeah....someone asked something about the first album you listened to in the new year. I don't know if it was in #134 or what....maybe I was up too late as usual. But anyways....I was listening to Sheryl Crow's Globe Sessions cuz it rocks and is one of those cds that can keep you up all night just like WCSE. ();) Ohki....here's the new trend I was talking about. Recently, I've been hooked on Hole's "Awful" from Celebrity Skin and love the part, "If the world is so wrong, we can take them all with one song." So....if there's a song you want the whole world to remember Liz by, which one would it be? Mine would most definitely would NOT be Supernova, which is the song she is most well known for. Hmmmm...I'm thinking more of What Makes You Happy. I dunno...I love this song live. Sooooo......I'm off for a realistic new year's resolution. I met mine last year which was to go to more concerts in '98 than I did in '97. With this year....I dunno...I don't see that many concerts down the road for me. I could be wrong though. Hmmm...Liz in Florida? Ohki...this post was long! Must hide in my spaceegg now! HAVE A BLAST IN '99! PARTY HARDY! Five more months till my high school graduation! woo hoo! Katie ():D ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Jan 1999 11:36:19 -0500 From: "Chris DeLisle" Subject: camp, firsts, interpretation, etc. Hello everyone, I dig the Cindy's "Liz camp" idea, too. Maybe we can invite Julia Roberts as a featured speaker...as far as a location, how about Chicago? It's an easy trip for me, as I'm from the Detroit area, but it makes a lot of sense: it's where Liz is from. Plus, it's about the coolest city I've ever been to, bars are open to 4 or 5 in the morning, there are usually lots of great shows there. Five or six years ago, I went to a "Madonnathon" here in the Detroit area (she's originally from this area). I didn't go on the tour that visited certain places in her life (like visiting where she went to high school, which was Rochester Adams), but @ the Civic Center in Southfield, there was plenty of memorabilia to buy, lots of Madonna wannabes, speakers, bootleggish stuff, and these shirts with Madonna naked on the front (should have bought a dozen, because some people were offering me up to $50 for mine later on!). Anyway, it would make sense to me have camp in Chicago, visiting points in Liz's life, etc. First album I listened to this year: Tom Waits "Heart Of Saturday Night." An excellent album to usher in the new year after a difficult New Year's. I recommend this album and his "Closing Time" to anybody with ears. First album I ever bought: The Beatles "Revolver" & "Beatles '65." I was 12 or 13, and I remembered really liking the song "Taxman" when it was played on those Beatle cartoons. I must say "Tomorrow Never Knows" scared the hell out of me the first time I heard it. Here's an interpretation I came up with the other day for "Stratford-On-Guy." Whattaya think? Yes. It's a deliberate reference to Shakespeare. One of the most visual of Liz's songs, it's like her attempt (as Shakespeare does) of setting the scene in her "play" in lyric form. "Stratford-On-Guy" doesn't refer to some guy named Johnny or anything, but rather "Guyville" itself. She's coming down on her town, where all of the plays/melodramas (the prior 16 songs?) take place. Instead of plays, though, she updates the media into movies ("that you get when your circumstance is movie size"..."landscape roll out like credits on a screen") and videos ("I was pretending that I was in a Galaxie 500 video"). She's even got a cameo appearance by Brigitte Bardot. I've always wondered about the line "It took an hour / maybe a day." Well, it's kind of like how books/short stories/movies sort of capture time. You can fit a whole day's occurrences in an hour and a half long movie. And then when she "really" listens, the fiction disappears. Onto the idea of the Liz Camp thing possibly this summer---I think it's a great idea! I am on the Jewel list as well and some of us are pretty tight. In the summer of 1996 Jewel did something we called "Jewelstock" where she came to Woodstock, NY and performed a three day concert--2 of the days just being for her internet list members, the other night was open for the public. This ofcourse was when she was a little less known, but it was a great bonding experience for many of the list memebers who had never met each other before. Poeple drove and flew in from all over and it was a great time. This year the list did a "Jewelstock Reunion", which Jewel herself was not able to attend, but still many of the list memebers went and had a great time just being together. I was not able to go, but I had friends who went and said it was a lot of fun. So I just bring this up to anyone who thinks the Liz idea is a little weird---others have done it, and I assure you it would be a great thing. Imagine all the names we could finally put with faces--we could finally recognize all the frickin' Katies!! And who knows, if enough hub-bub was made of it--guess who might make a guest appearance and blow us all away..hmmmm, let me think. Well, that's my 2 cents, I think it would be fun to break out all the guitars, sit around, down a few Rolling Rocks and finally get to meet each other....if anyone else feel this way, we should really keep it in mind.
