It does not necessarily mean that they won't air the show. The DC-area station WETA, for example, is one week off. I haven't checked the listings yet to make sure, but in the past I found that they were one week behind what the Web site posts. So...if you see something other than Liz in your listings, cross your fingers. Just to give it a try, I loaded it under Win 3.1 (well actually WinOs2) but no dice. It did load fine under Windows 95, but all it is is the Sessions logo with two small pictures of Liz singing around it. An animated highlight goes around the logo. It would have neat if it had audio of Liz singing, but that would have really bloated the thing. (H'm, maybe a Midi instrumental of Polyester bride wouldn't have taken alot of code/data.) Okay, I don't normally do this, but this just spoke to me and I simply must share my sexiest performer memory. When I was maybe 12 or 13 I went to my first "grown-up" concert (that is, my parents were not also attending and it wasn't my friend's "band" playing in some guy's basement). My little hardcore friend Ariel and I went to see Fugazi, and I had an epiphany: Guy Piccioto just may be the sexiest man on the face of the earth. The show was in this park in DC, and we stood up on the side of the stage by the speakers. Mr. Piccioto's sweat was actually flung upon us, which is not nearly as unpleasant as it sounds. That also wins in the "Coolest Concert I Ever Attended" category. We got there early and sat by a tree and watched Ian McKaye standing around and talking to all the other DC hardcore gods. And it was free and the park was really beautiful and it was cool but not cold and the sun was shining and the birds were singing. And we agreed to join the Communist Party just to get the little squirrely Communist clipboard guy to leave us alone. Which actually wasn't so cool, because then the Communists called to offer us rides to their weekly meetings every Thursday for the next, like, year. But it was interesting, and we got free copies of the Daily Worker. ObLizContent: Last summer my parents and I visited colleges, and we went to the University of Chicago. Our next stop was Wisconsin, and Winnetka was conveniently on the way out of town. So we spent about an hour driving around and looking at the incredibly expensive houses there. (I would agree with whoever said the neighborhood ain't no upper middle class. Damn, those houses are *nice*!) Then my mother suggested I get my picture taken with the sign that says "Welcome to Winnetka" and so I did. It was a very nice day. I want more! As far as the New Trier thing goes, didn't John Hughes himself go there? I think I read that somewhere. I mean, he sure has the Winnetka thing going in those movies of his (Ferris Bueller takes place right in Winnetka, for those of you who don't know where Liz lived - check the movie out, and see for yourselves). I, of course, didn't go to school there (though I wish I did), but I do know a little bit about it, from what Liz has said in the past. The movie The Breakfast Club was actually *about* her high school, as Liz said on Morning Becomes Eclectic, December 8, 1994: LIZ: I went to breakfast clubs... It wasn't five of us in a nice, big, cushy library, though, it was like forty of us at eight in the morning. MBE: So there was a real thing called... LIZ: ...the breakfast club. It was detention. You came before school and you sat there for something like forty-five minutes, an hour... Cindy, were you *serious* about going to Liz camp sometime? I think it's a great idea, whether it was a joke or not. I truly enjoyed - and when I say "enjoyed," I mean, it was *enriching* - meeting all the Liz fans I've met (and there have been a lot of you) at shows and whatnot. My only regret is that we didn't have time to do the things that Cindy suggested (listen to music, dissect the songs, get wasted) in person. There's only so much you can accomplish through e-mail. I'm thinking next summer... The idea for dissecting song lyrics through email (for now) is a great one and has yielded some wonderful results in the past (even on the guyville list, ha ha). I remember dissections of "Animal Girl," "Canary," and others, some of which I wasn't completely satisfied with before the threads were dropped. In the future, I'd love to talk about "Dance of the Seven Veils" and "Gunshy" (one that *no one* mentions, ever - it's almost like it doesn't exist). Whenever you are ready, give it a shot. "May Queen" doesn't seem that hard to figure out to me. If you wanna start with that one, I'd be happy to offer my interpretation of it, which I don't think is too far removed from Liz's. Seriously, I think it would be great fun to get together with most of you for a Lizfest. What would be a good name for such a camp? How many of you on this list would want to plan this for maybe this coming summer? Anyone who wants to do this please post it on the digest!!!! It doesn't have to be for a whole week necessarily. Maybe even just a weekend. The only problem would be agreeing on a location. But we should all try and make this happen no matter what! Plus if we do this summer, it gives us plenty of time to plan it. Plus, what do you guys think of this. Anyone who plays guitar, or any instrument period, could bring their instruments to this Liz fest (or whatever we call it) and we could jam on Liz songs all day. That would be sooooooooooo cool. So like I said, anyone who wants to do this please post on the digest letting everyone know you want to. Count me in for sure!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! I suppose I just haven't really had anything to say. Any way I'm posting in response to Craig mentioning Jon Spencer's Acme. It is an incredible album as are the rest of the Blues Explosion's albums. I met Spencer in Philadelphia this past Spring, and he was honestly the nicest guy I've ever met. I met him after the Boss Hog show I was at in a bar called Nick's. They played forever, actually exhausting their pool of material, and when they were done as the bar was emptying out, I walked up to hm and asked if he needed any help carrying their equipment out. He said that they could handle it themselves, so I said, well no one ever helps my band after our shows, and that was when we really started up a conversation. I talked to him for about 20 minutes or so, then I talked to his wife (Boss Hog's singer) Christina Martinez for a while. I got both of their signatures and their drummer Hollis Queens on my coat. Until October 21st, this was the highlight of my experiences with going to shows. Thanks to Janet Ranis, on October 21st after an 11 hour bus trip from York PA, to Cleveland Ohio, I got to meet Liz. The show was incredible. I won't go into that as it's been reviewed by many people already, but getting to meet Liz was definately one of the coolest moments of this year. Janet promised a backstage pass for me and a guest at the door, but when I got there, they told me there were 3 passes there, but none had my name. I was dissappointed, but I went in and just enjoyed the show. Afterwards, I waited outside for about 45 minutes or so with everyone else hoping Liz might come out and stop for a minute to talk to us. Eventually, Janet came out so I stopped her, and introduced myself. She asked if I got the passes, and I told her what happened. So, she took me inside where we went upstairs and there was Liz. So I've got 2 pictures of Liz and myself, and she signed the coat too. Jon Spencer on the right sleeve, Liz on the left. Hey, sorry if this post is obscenely long, but it is my first.
