(You have that one Jase?) I'm not Jase, but that's a GREAT album! Here, I should also plug Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri's lone solo album, "Heart on a Wall." Even today, something like 17 years after it was recorded, this thing absolutely BLOWS MY MIND. Excellent songwriting and a VERY strong vocal performance, reminiscent of Bowie. I'm not so hot on the cutesy ending to side A (he gets his kid to sing with him), but the rest of the album just fuckin' rocks! I love this thing so much that I will tape it for those interested, cos I don't think you have a snowball's chance in Hell of finding it anywhere. So as I am twiddling my fingers on my chin over the Liz jukebox, I would pick.... 1) Mesmerizing ( cos its my fave Liz song and you can clap along to it and its catchy and it sounds great and you can sing to it) 2) Polyester Bride ( I dunno.. its really a tie with all the other catchy "wcse" tunes. 3) I Know Its Not Easy ( cos it AINT easy picking only three Liz songs. Cos this song is like 7:19 minutes long so more exposure-airtime-bartime. {is this Liz's longest song?} * honourable mention to Combo Platter cos it combines some songs. - -Sina ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 06:36:44 -0800 (PST) From: Gabriel Peterson Subject: First Music First record: INXS 'Listen Like Thieves' First Cassette: The Cars 'Heartbeat City' First CD: New Order 'Technique' So there you go, Gabriel _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I should try better places. 1) POlyester Bride - half the song is about a conversation with a bartender, the kind that actually talks to people instead of wondering which drunk sorority girl he's going home with. It also has a feeling of giving up on getting married and all that nonsense before 23 and waiting it out to experience more of life and make a better decision (so you don't end up a bored, unfulfilled housewife [video]). I often find myself either looking for some guy worth giving my number to, or just forgetting about everyone else there and laughing like crazy with my friends. Have fun now and don't worry about it, "you've got time." 2) Headache - Another obvious choice. Interchanges soft moments of lucid thinking and observing the space around you with "you can take me home, but I will never be your girl." It's understanding what's going on and taking part in it with your eyes open. I find myself singing this in slurred speech on the way back to the bus stop. 3) Go West - a reflective type song that's perfect once the perpetual smile starts wearing off and you start getting sleepy. Sometimes it's realizing that you have gone west and remember you had to do what's best or realizing that maybe it's time for you to go west. I probably think too much when I'm drunk. I guess that would explain a lot. Pirner - I think the reference is from one of their earlier albums (pre- runaway train) I don't know for sure. Liz can be cryptic... damn complicated communicator. First Album - Michael Jackson's Thriller Awww gimme a break. He was black then and had a llama. How was I to know? He had that glove and the red jacket and the dance moves. I played it on my orange fisher price record player and did a poor imitation of the moonwalk. I still have it, but it's scratched beyond listening condition. Joan Jett - she kicks butt:) I used to love that song she did with Bikini Kill, but now I'm too mild mannered and boring to really get into it. I still listen to her old albums on occasion. Other- has anyone heard from Patrick Oltraver ever? Does his old email address work? I don't have any problems and I don't want to have people spending 25 bucks for un-amazing quality liz music, but I thought he was still an option for people who really want girlysound on cd. I'm having a little trouble with my Liz chronology. So, I've been listening to my Liz boots lately, and I don't get the whole tour with Brad/Casey/Leroy thing. The "Pottymouth Girl" boot is from late '93 and the "Fuck and Run" boot is from early '94. They're both before the release of WS and the arrangements are pretty much the same. The performance in PG is TERRIBLE - the band is way off and Liz is scared shitless. But the F&R cd is great - the band is tight and Liz seems totally comfortable. So what's the deal? When the the band get their act together? When did Liz's stage fright pretty much go away? Was this from the same tour? When did Liz call it quits witht he band? Aarghhh.... The only thing I have to say about the Liz/Alanis thing is that Alanis is an obvious, BAD rip-off of Liz, and she wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Liz.
