To try to bug David Bowie. I know, it's psychotic, but I really went to a LOT of effort for his CyberSong contest, and the fucking server won't take my entry. So I'm showing up in person. If you want to hear what I did, go to: http://members.aol.com/bowieremix/ So the reason I'm writing--anyone who might want to hang out, please give me a call at the Edison Hotel. (kill me) congratulations support system on digest #106! blagh. sorry to be but i have to agree with ed kisko about the whole "support sytem-palloza". i'm one of the lucky kids who's been on the 6'1'' list since jase and some of us got fed up and left the guyville list. 6'1'' was the most intelligent and well-run list i have ever been on, and jase continues to do an excellent job, but support system just isn't the same. maybe its all the people or the lack of maturity of certain people or the number of pointless rambling posts by the same people. i'm not trying to cause a problem because i love jase's list too much. maybe it would be better if, like jimmy suggested, people could condense their posts into one (at the very most please!) a day. my main reason for this, besides the fact that pointless multiple posts is annoying, is because i rarely can download files sent to me through mail so when the list is too long and requires downloading, i can't read it. sorry again, no hard feelings. on a more liz-note: i was wondering who has liz on vinyl. where can i find her stuff for my record player? i'd kill for carnivore but its sooo expensive if you can find it. sara ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Dec 1998 12:16:33 EST From: Fumblbee23@aol.com Subject: Re: support-system-digest V1 #105 hey guys, i was wonderin if any of you had any liz bootlegs that you would want to trade for some sarah mclahclan ones? if you want a list of the ones i have, email me-thanks a bunch~ ~nic ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Dec 1998 10:40:56 -0800 (PST) From: Craig King Subject: AMAZING Liz bootleg video I just got! Hey everyone, I just got done watching a truly amazing Liz bootleg video I got at a local music and memorabilia show. They always have these shows every few months and they have a ton of bootlegs from everyone you can think of. It's where I got the Fuck and Run CD from. Anyways, here's the info on the video I got: It was a benefit in Chicago and featured Liz playing for about 30 minutes. The cool thing about it is that every song is performed by only Liz. No backup band, no nothing. Just Liz and her guitar playing every song as only she can. It really shows just how talented Liz is on guitar. She shows no sign of stage fright whatsoever. Another cool thing aboput the performance is that she plays the song "Russian Girl" which was never released on WCSE, but was a demo for that album. It's such an amazing performance. Plus I think it's really rare video too. The quality of the sound on the video is A+++. Plus, the shots of the camera are close ups, so it's really cool. Here's the set List: (Keep in mind that there is no backup band. Just Liz and her guitar) Liz Phair Cheryl Trykv Benefit Concert Recorded Live on 4/1/96 Chicago, IL Steppenwolf Theatre Set List: Fuck and Run Divorce Song Dance Of The Seven Veils Supernova Russian Girl Rocket Boy Explain It To Me Never Said Fantasize Also included on the video is an old MTV segment called Squirt TV from 1996 featuring Liz. I don't know how many of you remember that show, but it was where some kid did a show from his bedroom and had guests on. And Liz was the guest. It's such a cool interview too, because Liz and the kid do some rips on Alannis Morrisette. It's really funny, and a really good interview! Plus she plays another unreleased song from the WCSE demo's, "Oh My God", which is VERY cool. Once again it's just Liz and her guitar. The song is about 4 minutes. Anyways, all of that is on my one tape. And I'd be willing to trade a copy of it with anyone who wants to. Sorry for the long post, but I just HAD to tell everyone about this amazing video. Totally realizing with disapointment that, yep - it's over, but she wants more, it was soo good, so magical when it was going on..kinda like saying "What? It's over?? How can it be over? That was too good!! IT can't be over! What do you mean it's over?" Like waking up from a really good dream, and realizing, yep..it was just a dream that never happened. "every corner has it's favorite clown.." - again, - every corner has a memory, a magic moment, a laugh. "I'll see you around..." - sounds so damn sad.."I'll see you around.." - she's not saying goodbye...she does not say goodbye..to me this song is about not really wanting to let go...it is about someone realizing they are not going to see that certain someone for a bit...but they for sure don't want it to be a permanent seperation..they wanna stay in touch..."I'll see you around..gimme a call sometime..i'll be around..." god..now i went and gave myself a lump in my throat. I mean, i can see this song working as a lullabye, this is all my own interpretion here, how i take it, but some of the things don't seem like what a mom would say to a child..but who knows? LIZ! Ya did it again!! :) On the prowl, Danny Feelgood. **************************************************** "Crash and burn, all the stars explode tonight." -Hole. **************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Dec 1998 16:47:23 -0600 From: "Jennifer Sayler" Subject: RS reader's poll In the December 10, 1998 issue of Rolling Stone, Liz is #10 in the Reader's Top 20! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jenny "I wanna be cool, tall, vulnerable, and luscious" - Liz Phair http://www.liz-phair.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Dec 1998 18:13:10 EST From: Mykayela@aol.com Subject: Re: liz mag Did anyone else see that liz is on the cover of Performing Songwriter Magazine (the November issue)? The CD was awesome, but unfortunately made a crackling sound on several tracks. I wasn't sure whether this was something unique to my copy or all Secretly Timid CDs. Well, I have my answer. Evidently, what is going on is that bootlegers have made a shitload of bad Secretly Timids. On all of them, Track 14 (batmobile) begins this really annoying crackling sound. Fortunately, Kim's gave me my money back and I was able to find the one remaing good copy in the area at Rocks In Your Head on Prince St. in Soho. I paid $25 for it, but at least it plays perfectly. Anyway, be cautious before buying a copy of the CD. If possible, ask the seller to play track 14 for you before you buy. Please only post from the email address you use to subscribe to the list. Otherwise your post will bounce to me and won't appear on the list until I have the time to forward it. 2. Please do not quote the entire previous digest when sending a message to the list. Only quote what's necessary if you are responding to something, then delete the rest. If you're not responding to anything but are sending a new, completely unrelated message, please compose a new message, rather than hit 'Reply.' If the entire previous digest is quoted, the message will exceed the maximum length allowed by the server and will bounce to me. Again, it won't make it to the list until I get a chance to forward it. Also, this is just common sense that you would not quote an entire previous day of postings -- does anyone need to read the entire last digest again? If it were to make it through to the list and people had to wade through it, you could bet many of them would be annoyed. Sorry to always be harping about this stuff, but it does make the list run a lot smoother if these guidelines are followed. Thanks, Jase ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Dec 1998 01:00:02 -0500 From: Jason Long Subject: Bounced message From: "David & Monica Johnson" Subject: Greetings! Hello, I am fairly new to the list and wanted to introduce myself. I've been a Liz phan for only a short while-since WCSE came out. Since buying this CD and everything else I could find in the record stores, I've listened to Liz almost non-stop (or so my family says....). Exile is my favorite CD, but I get plenty of listening time on Whip Smart, and WCSE. Like many people on the list, I drove quite a long way to see Liz in concert. I went to the Toronto show and enjoyed it very much. Seeing her perform live is a wonderful experience. The band was really good, but someday I would like to see her perform without her band. Just Liz and her guitar! Even though I live in Michigan, I'm hoping for a Florida show this winter. I discovered Liz's music at a time when I really needed it, I was in an off road bicycling accident that really added a lot of stress to my life. I was able to escape from it through her music and lyrics. Now, that I'm back to "normal" I still really enjoy her music, but for different reasons. Also, I do computer networking for a living and have a CD burner. I would like to pick up some of the Liz bootlegs that are available-and can make some copies for others. If anyone is willing to make me a cd copy please let me know, and I'll send you the blank and a mailer. I also have a web and ftp server that I could make available for web pages if anyone was interested (free of course).
