On a lot of points I agree with Jason. Matador does not book dates, an outside agency does. He is probably right when he says she did not know until after. That being said fans still have every right to gripe. Jason was also right when he says Liz owes us nothing. But he forgot something. Once a show is booked, tickets are announced, printed and sold I think we are owed something. There is no way Liz could not have known by this point. If she didn't that agency should be canned. Don't forget that last I checked LP was Matadors biggest selling artist. Also the only one making any kind of real money. I'm sure she can call her own shots. I'm I the only one who finds it interesting that the only shows that were not cancelled were the 2 radio shows! My cousins band played a WBCN radio gig for free last fall(w Sarah Mac., Paula Cole and others) and he told me they don't even get paid for a radio show. The label pays for it as a favor to the station. Who hopefully will return the favor by playing their music, which hopefully translates to Shitloads of Money! While I would not doubt Liz had nothing to do with the mixups, she ultimately has to bear responsibility. Her name is on the tickets. I know some people on the list bought(or were going to) non-refundable plane tickets and are left high and dry. If these cancellations are because they want to spend time with their familes that is not acceptable to myself. After someone has already made commitments on their behalf. My suspicions are the reasons are more of the personel kind. That makes a lot more sense to me. Or course as I say this I am lucky enough to be seeing her in Boston. 4th time this year. As Jason said, I feel lucky to have seen her once let alone 4. Hopefully she will have learned from this. One last note in a too long note. I went to the Roseland ballroom last time Liz played. Bought tickets the minute they went on sale. Paid like 24$ for a 16$(Ticketbastard, you bet). I was asked if I wanted to pay an extra 10$ to Fedex them or pick them up at will call. Naturally I went with the cheaper option. So what happens. I get there 45 minutes early(which is like 2hs for me) because I had to drive 2 + hrs thru a driving rain and traffic jams. I then wait well over an hour in line to get the tickets I already bought!? No big deal until I realized I missed the 1st 3 songs!!!!!! I also thought the sound system sucked. The 1st part is criminal if you ask me. I am going to see Jon Spencer BE there the 19th and had to pay like 30+$ for a 14 or 16 $ ticket. Ahh capitalism. I capped it off by having my car break down, 160$ tow bill, and 400$ to fix it. After all this I still had a great time! Is Liz otherwordly or what. My only regret is I didn't see her at Avalon too. But I am now. Sorry for being so greedy but I need another fix of Ms. Liz Phair. Sorry for being so long but I had to let that out, Bill in CT(Hope Santa takes care of those of you who haven't seen LP) PS. Jase, what the hell happens? I know you met her. Please tell us! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 05:36:08 -0600 From: Orlando Fiol Subject: straight guys and liz Hi David. Like you, I'm also a straight guy and i think that many guys don't like Liz's very sexual lyrics because it turns them on too much. When I first heard Guyville and some stuff off Whipsmart, I got temporarily depressed because I knew there was no way that I'd ever be in a position to sleep with this guitar-playing vixin. But hey, I got over it and just use the lyrics to add to the matrimonial fires. Quite interesting don't you think? I'm curious to > know their version of Emotional Rescue is like. Their version of 'Emotional Rescue' sounds almost identical to Liz's (or, to be more correct, Liz's sounds almost exactly like the Stones') - -- from the deep "dum da dum" of the bass to the high falsetto singing "I'll be your saviour steadfast and true; I'll come to your emotional rescue, hoo hoo hoo hoo" (okay, y'all know what I'm trying to type :) - -- I remember when I bought the Stones album, and I went running home to listen to 'Emotional Rescue' -- I was rolling on the floor laughing at how similar it was to Liz's version. What else like that has she covered, sorta spur-of-the-moment, in concert? - -cath- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 14:14:10 EST From: DaisyFoo14@aol.com Subject: I learn my name...I write with a number two pencil I've been lurking here for probably about a month, maybe less, and I figured I'd better introduce myself before #100 comes around, which Katie has been getting me all psyched about. Hey Katie! Your Furby idea had me rolling, but if we all decide to band together to corrupt America's youth, count me out....not that I have a problem exposing young children to Liz lyrics, but those Furbys scare the shit out of me! They're like little gremlins or something... Ken: I hope the money collection is building up to give that guy "shitloads of money." Although the Alanis' ass thread was quite frightening, the most disturbing of thoughts expressed on this list was someone (I forgot who...so sorry!) who pondered/wondered how big a song PW would be if Celine Dion sang it. AHHH!!!! Were you really that intent upon sending me hellish visions? Okee, here we go: Ummm...My name is Allison, some call me Alli, it's kinda divided between my friends and fam and stuff, I don't really prefer one over the other...I'm 15, a sophomore in a little community much like Liz's when she was growin' up...I mentioned that and the name of her high school when I told my mother about Liz when I was going to see her at Roseland in Oct to calm my mother down...of course I completely failed to inform her of any song's content...not that her songs are obscene, but I just didn't want to put her into hypershock of whatever. (Although later on she overheard Flower when I had it on full blast in my room...oops...) Let's see, what else...I completely overuse dots (...) for some reason I have not yet discovered, perhaps b/c I'm lazy and don't feel like forming real sentences...there they went again! Some of my fetishes include marabou (it's just so soft and fluffy!), tank tops (I have about 30), and cozy pajamas. I have a deep fear of Furbys, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey's hair @ times, and detest Top 40 shit and the opening of milk cartons, which I have never been able to master. Sure, nobody shakes up milk, but can't the people who make the cartons be so courteous as to include the little plastic spouts they have for orange juice? I've been a Liz phan since EIG...well, not year- wise, but when I first bought it I was hooked, so that kinda counts, right? RIGHT! : ) I then went on, like the little parents' money abuser I am, to order Whip-smart, juvenilia, supernova, and WCSE, all of which I absolutely love. I'm also really into Sleater-Kinney, which I've happily seen other justifiably people raving about, Rasputina, Nerf Herder, Darling Violetta, the Dandy Warhols, and lotsa other stuff that I'm too lazy to type out. I'm on another mailing list (also digest -- yeah!) for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I am absolutely OBSESSED w/ (we call it a "deep interest"), so I'm pretty set w/ mailing lists, as I've been on the BtVS one for about a year and a half now. There's probably (errr...hopefully...) more to me than that, but for now this'll do, as I can't imagine anyone cares that much about me to have read this far. Thanks if you did! Anyway, I really enjoy reading all of your posts everyday, so, umm...thanks! - --Alli[son] DaisyFoo14@aol.com I don't have a Liz-themed sig right now...any suggestions? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 16:15:26 -0600 From: "Jennifer Sayler" Subject: back to the same old stuff Hey all, Im back at school, so I wont have to bother Jase with fowarding my emails and all, but thanks dude. NEwho, thanks to my dad giving me an early x-mas present, I now have my own domain name for cool, tall, vulnerable, and luscious - www.liz-phair.com I have pretty much got it all set up. Over thanksgiving, I was finally able to scan some pictures, so if you go to the gallery, you can see some pictures that I took of Liz. Also, at my home page http://www.saylerfamily.com/jas there are some pictures of natalie merchant and sarah mclachlan that I took at the lilith fair (in the cool pictures section) Oh, and Katie I also saw that Ticketmaster still has some of the tour dates up (including Nashville) but they are cancelled, and since we all know ticketmaster is stupid, its no suprise that they still have the dates up there. Anyways, I am no longer horribly upset that the Nashville concert was cancelled, I have accepted it, and I am anxiously awaiting the rescheduled dates, I have faith that Liz will come to Nashville. Well, thats about enuf for now, check you later dudes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jenny "I wanna be cool, tall, vulnerable, and luscious" - Liz Phair http://www.saylerfamily.com/jas/lizphair.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 18:44:58 -0500 (EST) From: kiskos@webtv.net (Edward Kisko) Subject: Guitar World - Liz in it Just thought I'd mention that Liz is featured in Guitar World magazine (or is it Guitar Player? -- just look for Hole on the cover). But, I have to put myself at your mercy and say that I'd do nearly anything to have more LIZ and to have this CD--seems like much of her music even now comes from this set of songs. I know that we have a CD burner at work, so if someone could send me a tape, I could probably make it into a CD, but if someone could make me a CD that would be even better. I would richly reward the person who would be so gracious as to help me get a copy on CD--in cookies, warm feelings, gratitude. And whatever funds this takes. Also, since I posted my desire to get this a few digests back, a couple people have emailed me privately asking if I'd heard anything, so there are a few of us lost souls out here. thanks so much, Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 20:07:42 -0600 From: "Jennifer Sayler" Subject: something interesting I was just reading my Rolling Stone, and I saw that Liz is #12 in the readers top 20!
