I didn't know there was any other version. Maybe the packaging has permanently changed now, or maybe it's just a BMG and/or Columbia house deal. There should be a marking somewhere on the disc if it's from one of the clubs. And here's the burning question: Down there in the bottom right hand corner of the cover, how much of Liz's nipple is showing? Is there less of it on the music club version than on your first one? Here's another method I heard for turning people on to Liz. Literally. Some friends went out ot the desert east of L.A. recently to indulge in mushrooms. There was a borrowed copy of WCSE around and apparently someone on the trip (pun intended) became a raving Liz fan after hearing it while high. Get 'em any way you can. I really almost hate doing this, since this thread has been pretty interesting, but I also hate holding out on those who might like to hear the news. According to Gerard Cosloy at Matador, the next single from _whitechocolatespaceegg_ will be "Johnny Feelgood," which is tentatively scheduled to go to radio in January. He also said that at the present time there are no plans for a commercial single, but that could change. Personally, I think this a great choice. "Johnny Feelgood" was originally supposed to have been the first single from the record, and I do wonder if the album would have fared better had they stuck with this decision. "Polyester Bride" is a great song, but for some reason I just think that "Johnny Feelgood" would have gotten more airplay and more of a response. As the first single was released in the midst of the Lilith tour, I think they tried to choose a song that would most appeal to that audience to benefit from the great exposure Liz was getting. At the same time, "Polyester Bride" wasn't exactly the type of song Liz is known for or that people have come to expect from her. Again, it is a great song and in a perfect world would have been a huge hit, but I imagine that radio programmers in the Modern Rock format didn't exactly know what to make of it. It certainly wasn't another "Supernova" or "Never Said." At the same time, Liz is a stranger to other radio formats, and I don't think Capitol gave enough of a push to try to break her in these and expose her to a new audience. I do have high hopes for "Johnny Feelgood" when it is released. That said, I do believe Liz's best shot at a legitimate, all-out hit is "What Makes You Happy." I really hope that a third single will be released from the record, and that this will be it. I've played _whitechocolatespaceegg_ for countless people and included songs from it on mix tapes for friends, and I do have to say that "Headache" almost always gets a strong, positive reaction. I'd love to see it released as a single, but it's probably "too weird" or whatever to actually get much play. It is one of my favorites on the album, though. I also think that the imagery in the lyrics could lend itself to a really visually-enticing video. There's one other track on the album that would make a good single and that would be "Big Tall Man." It's not really one of my favorites (although I do like it), but it does seem radio-ready. I get a little bored my the repetitiveness of the song at times, but that kind of thing (the big, oft-repeated chorus) seems to be encouraged at radio. I guess that maybe part of my problem with "Big Tall Man" is that it feels more structured than Liz's other songs; it doesn't seem to flow quite as freely. A friend of mine who is a recent convert to Liz says that "Uncle Alvarez" should be released as the next single. Again, while I love the song, I don't think it'd do well as a single. I agree with whoever it was who said that it would probably suffer the same fate as "Polyester Bride." Of course, maybe Liz will surprise us all and put "(Bleep)loads of Money" out as the third single. :) It's nice to be liked, but it's better by far to get played, Jase ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Nov 1998 11:33:39 -0500 From: Jason Long Subject: My morning laugh Hey guys, I just thought I'd share this, because it's a complete riot. That loser I booted off the list for selling bootlegs has tried twice this morning to unsubscribe *me* from the list. Guess the lamer doesn't know that things like that need to go to me for approval. This is almost as funny as the posts he tried to send to defend himself after he had already been taken off the list. I took great joy in reading those messages when they bounced to me. (He was such a jerk-off too, freely admitting he was making a profit from his bootlegs, but still insisting that what he was doing wasn't wrong. Uh huh, yep.) Anyway, if you've ordered anything from him, let me know as soon as you receive it. As soon as everyone's gotten their stuff, I'm going to turn him in to Liz's management and/or label. I'd do it right now, but I'd hate for those of you who've already ordered stuff to maybe lose your chance of getting your CDs. Also, if you feel so inclined, feel free to flame the bastard at MEfest@aol.com or craig765@yahoo.com, the address he used to try to unsub me. He sent me an email trying to sub to the list using the latter address once I booted him off, but I had a good feeling it was him and didn't add him on. Looks like I was right. Thank God he seems to be too stupid to figure out how to subscribe himself. My one concern is that he figures out how to get back on the list, using a different email account. If this does happen, I will have no choice but to turn this list into a moderated one. It will still be on this server, but no one will be able to post directly to the list; everything will go to me for approval first. The only downside to this is that I do like to go away on weekends quite often, and there would be no digests during these times, as I don't have access to my mail. And I realized after I wrote the title, that it really didn't apply to my beef. The beef about which I am really writing is Ticketmaster. And I realize that they probably aren't to blame either, but they fit very easily into the role of the great, oppressive "Man". So they are my beef. If you're still reading, you may well be wondering what this is all about. Well my friends, it's this. Two days and one month ago was the date of Liz's postponed Columbus show at Mekka. I had pre purchased two tickets for $40. Since October 23rd, I have been calling Ticketmaster regularly to see when I can take my tickets back to get a refund. The stock answer has been, "They'll be announcing something in just a few days." Now even when I was turning in late physics papers, "a few days" never meant more than 30. Fifteen tops. So tonight, I call again. The tune has a new verse. I confrontedthe Ticketmaster support guy, asking when Ticketmaster would view the "few days" window as being long, long since boarded over and bricked up. He told me that they need to wait to get word from the promoters saying that she will for certain not be coming back to Columbus, and so far, the promoters are not giving up on this dream of theirs. Well sadly, I have. When and if Liz announces her return to Columbus, (Well, arrival really.) I'll be the first one in the scalper line to pick up my new tickets. But Christmas will be coming before Liz (at least one), and I can think of better uses for that $40 than having it decorate my computer desk. **Sigh** I'm just glad I made the trek up to Cleveland to see her, since who knows when she'll be back this way again. Now as a special treat to anybody who has read this far, I also have a CD burner. Unfortunately, I have none of Liz's boots, but I'd gladly make a copy for anybody that could obtain a copy for a few days. E-mail me if anybody is interested.
