I never saw it posted. I'm sorry Jason if I screw this up again, even though I work with computers(mainframes). If this doesn't post what am I doing wrong? Some thoughts... Favorite bands..Throwing Muses..Pixies, Liz (of course), Sleater-Kinney, X, Replacements, Blur , Velocity Girl, Magnapop, Lucinda Williams + and plenty of others I apologize to. Phan Profile: Male 40 yrs old(good to see that 49 yr old). 2 girls(15 + 12) Have converted them to Liz phans although its a censored version. Single parent. Wife died 10 years ago of cancer at 26. Still dealing with that. By the way her name was Liz Pehr(rhymes with you know who). Phan for 5 years. I am 6'1" (ta-da) 260+ See above (boo-hoo) If you think Alanis is fat Oh boy. Into photography, music(800+ CDs) if anyone would to hear some groups they haven't heard I'd be willing to do some mix tapes. My room looks like a 20 year olds since I have music memoribilia all over. Nobody I know likes most of the music I like. Liz who? Have 2 cats also. I liked the 5 cds bit but have to expand to 10. And 4 or 5 of these could change at any minute. In no particular order. Throwing Muses - Real Ramona or any other, Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out or Call the Doctor or you get the point, Pixies - Surferosa, Lucinda Williams, X - Los Angeles, Freedy Johnston - Come Fly with Me, Liz Phair - EIG or you know, Replacements - Pleased to Meet Me, Geraldine Fibbers - Butch, Nirvana - Nevermind. I also have to mention Big Head Todd + the Monsters - Sister Sweetly since my cousin is the drummer. I'll spare you at this point. Life highlight except for my wife and kids. Meeting Kristen Hersch(of Tmuses) last week and getting her autograph. Well I have too much to say so I'll cut out for now. Plus I want to see if this gets thru. Mucho in the kudos department. One thing hit me though while Liz was playing "Canary"...I've been knocked out by "WCSE" ever since it came out, and I've recently re-discovered "Whip-Smart." I've championed these albums as being just as good as "Exile," and thought the other people who said "Exile" was head and shoulders above the rest should give them another listen. Well, there was a certain resonance in her performance of "Canary"...it really hit me like that first great fuck: there really is something about "the first time." My guess is your first experience with Liz...whether it was "Exile"...or the first time you heard "Supernova"...or whether it's the new album...will always be your best experience. "Canary" might as well have been "Won't Get Fooled Again," and "Johnny Sunshine" might as well have been "Jumping Jack Flash." "Exile" really deserves to be in the top 10 of that Alternative Press poll of the best albums of the 90's. #11? Behind the Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream" at #4? C'mon! Now, "Nevermind" at #1 doesn't surprise me, but is "The Downward Spiral" really the second best album in the 90's? I know Reznor's had a lot of influence in this decade, but can anyone out there tell me if his album is better than Liz's? I fully agree with My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" album @ #7. It's amazing. Doesn't Pavement's "Slanted and Enchanted" deserve better than #22? One thing about the poll I found funny is that half of the albums on there that I've had I've traded back for something else. I don't think the 90's are my favorite decade in music. The music just doesn't stick to me like it used to. I've done much better with Rolling Stone's 100 best albums of the 80's... And could please get off Alanis' butt. The subject's taken enough pounding the last week or so... This article had six artists listed, including LP, The Breeders, Me'Shell NdegeOcello (How DO you pronounce that?), Bjork, The Spinanes, and Belly. "Roll Over, Suzanne Vega" Forget acoustic guitars, peasant blouses, angst, and other traditional trappings of female pop stars.. Lately it seems male rockers are all whining about lousy love lives and social ills. Women are the new, brawny force in pop, leading the groups making the toughest, most innovative sounds. A sampler: (Pictures follow, with short descriptions. The LP clip is the only one I really cared for. ^_^) LIZ PHAIR: The Chicagoan is the current darling of the alternative pop scene, less for her catchy, but ordinary, tunes than for her refreshingly angry and aggressive attitude to men and romance. Looks like Newsweek has a thing for Liz; that's the second NW that I've got which has something with LP in it. The other is their large article about "Liz Phair Grows Up", which appeared on the top line on the cover. Nifty, eh? Can't stand their news coverage or much else, but hey...they can choose music. ;) Next, I was driving back from the local software store after buying "Napoleon in Russia", and was listening to the local radio station, which can't seem to figure out if it likes Mariah Carey or Metallica, but does have a 'Women in Music' national show on Saturday nights, and a semi-daily show called 'What's The Alternative', which had yet (to my knowledge) to have played anything from a certain Chicagoan. Having listened to WIM today, and hearing "Members Only" from Sheryl Crow, which unfortunately develeoped into a quick fade to Alanis and Jewel, I wasn't expecting much. However...the local DJ said "...and we'll follow this up with a new one from Liz Phair. Here's 'Polyester Bride.' Well...aside from like, crazily cheering and mindlessly singing along, I realized that 'Hey, Liz got airplay! Hot damn!' So mark 0112 GMT 15 November 1998 as the first time I've ever heard a Liz Phair song on the radio...I have half a mind to call the station and thank them for not being so bloody repetitious. Ah well. Down side of all this is that my Commodore 64 is now busted. Talk about your carpeting store on opening day.... Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 20:00:28 -0800 From: Brian Carmichael Subject: Stuck on an Island List, etc These lists are really challenging! Here goes... 1. Exile In Guyville - Liz Phair 2. Whitechocolatespaceegg - Liz Phair 3. Bed - Juliana Hatfield 4. Version 2.0 - Garbage 5. I'm With Stupid - Aimee Mann The above mostly reflects my current mood and is subject to change. I would have included Whip-Smart, Jen Trynin's Cockamamie, PJ's Rid Of Me and others had the list been extended to a top 10 instead. Did anyone else notice that Whitechocolatespaceegg was mentioned in November's Maxim magazine? It appeared (possibly jokingly) on a list of worst album titles. Their comment was Imtocooltousepunctuation. Regarding the (how did this ever happen?) debate of Only Son vs. Baby Got Going, I will have to cast my vote for Only Son, one of my favourites. Baby Got Going is a fun song, very different but is (I think) somewhat out of place. Ditto for Uncle Alvarez. Personally, from the time Love Is Nothing ends I can't wait to hear Only Son. The slow beginning, the faster paced part from about the 4 minute mark to the end, and all parts in between...are all great! Still no word of any more Canadian tour dates...oh well. Later. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Nov 1998 20:58:08 -0800 From: MrE Subject: to the phairites and phairises spaceeggheads- just thought you would like to know that cduniverse will remove the 'filth' from the wcse cover for a cost to you of one dollar and eighty cents... >Rolling Stones tix climb to $600 apiece (cnn) who in the hell... >Bolton loses bid to raze historic farmhouse (cnn) ...they could have made it conditional, for instance, summary execution... >Mariah Carey claims that her ex-husband tried to >put the kibosh on her big-screen dreams.
