Exile In Guyville, Liz Phair 2. Automatic For The People, R.E.M. 3. Achtung Baby, U2 (i always link these two together in my head for some odd reason) 4. Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys 5. Live Through This, Hole if you extended it to 10, i probably woulda added crooked rain, crooked rain, whip smart, sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band, exile on main street and uh...i don't know, maybe beauty and the beat or something ? but whatever, it changes like everyday, so none of this really matters. y'know, why do i get this weird feeling that one of these days i actually AM gonna get stranded on a desert island ? :) matt http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~george2/music/liz ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 98 22:15:52 PST From: "The Human Cannonball" Subject: . . . you make the rockin' world go 'round! re support system digest #77: 1. Thanx to Brian Cooper for sticking a great Queen song into my brain (Are you gonna take me home tonight?) 2. Thanx to Jorge (George) Cooper: I LOVE the "desert island" question. I come up with a different list every time. It's a challenge to examine my collection and reduce it to FIVE essential albums that I could stand to listen to over and over again. Here's my current list (in no certain order): Butthole Surfers: "Locust Abortion Technician" Liz Phair: "Exile in Guyville" The Mothers: "Uncle Meat" Talking Heads: "77" Minutemen: "Double Nickles on the Dime" And here are the other five that I WILL FIND A WAY to bring with me, since I just can't limit myself to five (I know. I'm cheating): Parliament: "Tear the Roof Off" Dead Kennedys: "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" Black Flag: "My War" They Might Be Giants: "Lincoln" David Bowie: "Scary Monsters" In looking over my list, I realize that I haven't included anything for those all-important calm, quiet moments (Coltrane or Davis are good for those times). Oh well. Must be indicative of my current mood. And, in case anyone cares, the only thing that annoys me more than that new Alanis Morissette video is that new Alanis Morissette song. I wouldn't mind the nudity (I'm a big fan of nudity, in fact) if it weren't set to such horrible music. That song just whips my ass. - The Human Cannonball ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 1998 23:14:46 -0500 From: Dan Subject: My desert island pix That's easy... 1) Liz Phair- Exile In Guyville 2) Toadies - Rubberneck 3) Prince - Sign 'O' The Times 4) Bangles - All Over The Place 5) Sinead O'Connor - The Lion and The Cobra Runners up: PJ Harvey - Rid of Me Bjork - DEBUT Hole -Live Through This Madonna - Erotica REM - Life's Rich Pageant David Bowie - Hunky Dory David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of ZIggy Stardust and The SPiders From Mars. and New Kids On THe Block - hangin tough. I've been a huge Bangles fan since I was in gradeschool..they've always been one of my favorite bands - even today...I got a rare chance to see them on their reunion tour when i was a mere 12 years old back in 89 - Violent Femmes opened, didn't know who the fuck they were then, and that has always been one of my most exciting concert experiences...I also got a chance to see Susanna Hoffs in a TINY TINY club called 7th House in Michigan 2 summers ago..she was incredible, so intimate - and to my surprise, she did a few Bangles hits... anyway, I am rambling...just wondering if anyone at all has a copy (RECORD/TAPE or CD) of the first 6 song EP titled simply "THE BANGLES". It was a tiny little thing and they no longer make them...Being the fan that I am, i have many Bangles items...but unfortunately, in the 12 years I have adored them, I could not get my hands on this gem...It isn't really worth much, but I would be forever in anyone's debt to get my hands on this thing...if anyone has a copy, please email as soon as possible...I will pay you $$$, make you tapes - send you CDS - anything!! This has been a quest of mine for over a decade. anyway - thanks in advance, all you phair phans...:) walking like an egyptian, Dan, the fifth Bangle. **************************************************** "Crash and burn, all the stars explode tonight." -Hole. **************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Nov 1998 22:52:24 -0600 From: "Jennifer Sayler" Subject: hey you guuuyyyys Hey guys, whats up? Before I get on to business, I have to say thanks to a couple cool tape traders I have met through the list. Jen Sayler and Jennifer Cooper, you guys are the coolest Jens I've come in contact to and there's more competition than you would think, but we don't want to get into that. As for my profile, I'm a 23 year old male. I'm finishing up my slow path through community college. I've been working full-time for the mouse(which makes me another frustrated Floridian waiting for Liz to visit our end of the world). I'll be starting at Florida State in either Spring or Summer as a communications major and then I plan on getting my Master's in Film Production, which is what I want to do eventually. Incidentally, I'm setting up various video projects, so if there's anybody in the Orlando area that would like to try some acting or just hanging out in some very average video projects, let me know. But I digress. I was introduced to Liz in the early EIG days and she's been my favorite ever since. Other faves include Ani, DMB, Pumpkins, Beth Orton, Morcheeba, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, and Nirvana. As for the stuck on an island, 1)Liz Phair-Exile in Guyville 2)Nirvana-Nevermind 3)Liz Phair-whitechocolatespacegg 4)Ani DiFranco-Out of Range 5)Paul Simon-Graceland That's enough to say for today. If I keep writing, you'll start scrolling past me. I thought I was the only one who gets obsessed with a song for a month! I just got over "Nashville" and I'm actually on an Ani song right now, "Untouchable Face". It's so cool to hear that somebody else does that too! Secondly, I really liked how you said this: "everything she writes is exactly what I want to say" Then, to Alex, you said something about her butt looking weird and shelf-like, Well, I saw her do some interview on MTV and she said the police made her wear some strange kind of belty/underwear whatever thing so that may be why it looked so strange...I dunno...maybe it is just strange.. == *Suzanne* ********************************************** * "I am not a pretty girl, * * I don't want to be a pretty girl, * * No, I want to be more than a pretty girl." * ************** Ani DiFranco ****************** _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I'm waaaaaaaaaaiting! About my page, be patient! I'm almost done! BTW, I still have the info lying around about the back issue if anyone would like it. I'm surprised I can ever find anything in my room, as messy as it is. Mess? haha! Mess of fun! Katie ();) Pat, you're not the only who is upset in not seeing Liz! Just keeps your hopes up!
