Matt Schulz : >In my opinion, its the best disc of the 90s Oh I didn't know the 90's were already over ;) Dan: >http://www.lizphair.com > >thanks, Well thank *you*! Lots of great videos on your site :) (just one thing, you wrote Polyester Pride instead of Bride :) Like several other people here, my favorite is Exile in Guyville. Al thanks for that article. I love Winona Ryder now even more than I did before :) The Human Cannonball: >On the back of the "Whip-Smart" booklet there are nine black-and-white pictures of >symmetrical shapes. Every time I look at them, they seem familiar to me. I get a >feeling that I should know what they are, but I haven't a clue. Does anybody know? I don't have the Whipsmart CD here but I think I remember it's chromosomes. Liz: >I hope this hasn't already been debated, but does anyone have a >definitive gloss on what she's getting at in Chopsticks when she talks >about 'do[ing] it backwards'? > >I read an article in The Boston Globe before she came here that made >mention of her songs containing such lines as advice on the best way to >have sex and watch TV at the same time. That's how I understood it: at the same time. And I thought it gave a feeling of sex not being very important. They do it but they are kinda bored so they watch tv at the same time. But it can also be just a joke: "oh you want to do it backwards? Fine so we can watch tv too haha " Just my opinion. >I have always preferred this interpretation b/c it's not >as characteristic/standard. Kind of like 'you think I am being really >crude when you [the listeners] are the ones with the dirty minds'. Oh that's interesting too. Melissa: >I'm a little offended when they use Liz as background music. I mean, >this is something I listen to as an activity and they're using it as >filler sound for some dumb tv show. It's even worse when a song is used in a commercial. YUCK!!! Only three digests late. Both were very insightful. I've always thought that emptiness is what Chopsticks was all about. Before I had read a lyric sheet, I always thought the last line of the song was "cause secretly I'm dead" rather than "timid." I'm glad my mishearing could fit in as well. The 5% nation, a Soul Coughing web page www.soulcoughing.com , has song analyses from most of the first 2 albums. Is there a Liz Phair web site that does the same? I love hearing people analyze the songs and would like more to hear more people's opinions because it may show a side of a song no one considered before. I have yet to hear much of an analysis of Headache that I can agree with. Please advise. Jason Jenks P.S. I was still reeling with excitement that I got tickets for the Nov. 16 show at The Ritz in Raleigh. Now I hear from the digest that the show has been postponed? I hope it's not cancelled. Anyone know why? Should I try to get my refund now? Sigh. Does anyone else love the new Beck album? Interestlingly, one of the many records that pop up is one entitled "Kaleidiscope" on Virgin. Its a various artists complilation with the likes of Moose, Mazzy Star, Pooka, James, De La Sou and LIZ PHAIR! There was no track listing, so I have no idea what song this is. The CD is expensive (DM 63,-) and I had no luck at the Virgin Records website about its contents. Other CD stores (eg CDnow) sell something called Kaleidiscope Collection (Templ (sic) Records) but I don't know if its the same thing. Does anybody know what this is all about? rob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Nov 1998 16:46:44 EST From: AngelLieb@aol.com Subject: Darn those people! I feel like shooting somebody in the foot cuz I lost a picture of Liz I turned in to be laminated and of course, I'm mad as hell! I haven't heard from the place yet after calling to complain that I lost a picture. Oh well, at least it's not the big picture of her from the Seventeen magazine with those beautiful diamond earrings. What is so interesting is when I called, the lady said she could recall of laminating a picture of someone that's tall and skinny. hmmmm...she's skinny, but not tall. *thinking, she wanted to be cool, tall......* Anyways, just wanted to drop a note for Steve, Victoria, Laura, and Amy that I sent your stuff today.
