You know, all the little fishies swim out and have sex w/ each other and whatnot and then go lay their eggs. I've also told my boyfriend that Liz Phair is the only women I'd sleep with. Heh heh. She's almost a deity in my book. Also, I couldn't agree more, as I've said before, that Whip-Smart is really a great album. It's my number one favorite actually. And . . . is a Phairities II in the works. I'm really dying to hear the new "Hurricane Cindy", "Greased Lightning", etc, etc. Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 23:24:07 +0000 From: "The Sandman" Subject: F-16 >Hey, it's an Air Force jet. I cannot believe that I am posting this on this mailing list, but I've watched other people say some things, and since I have close ties to this, I thought I should chime in. First off - the F-16, although currently constructed by Lockheed-Martin is considered a General Dynamics fighter plane. Second: the F-16 ahs the most vertical takeoff of any fighter plane currently used by the USAF (except the occasional Harrier, but that's a British plane) and although not equipped for landings on an aircraft carrier, it could very easily if properly outfitted. I am not an airplane buff - I only know this stuff and felt like I should say something b/c my father was on the original design team for the F-16 Fighting Falcon. He is currently the Tech-Rep for the USAF Thunderbirds. So I do know what I'm talking about OKOKOK, enough already... I missed Liz on 120 minutes and even though I've been watching with an eagle eye, I have yet to see the Polyester Bride video!!! Who plays it more - MTV or VH1?? Oh, and knowing Liz's past as a charcoal artist, has anyone noticed that the cover of WCSE could easily be a charcoal rendering of an actual photograph?? Espescially her face... I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that... ********************************************************************* "We are the Musicmakers, and we are the Dreamers of the Dreams..." - Willy Wonka ********************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 20:27:45 -0500 From: "Alex Miller" Subject: Re: support-system-digest V1 #58 This might seem kind of pointless, but my house just got an American Eagle clothing catalog in the mail. I was browsing through it, and in the back, it lists the people who made and and some other various stuff, one of which is the music they listened to while making the catalog. And I bet that all of you can guess who's name pops up. As I said, pretty pointless, but cool. Also, just in case you'd like to see for yourself, I'd guess that you can probably get a free copy of the catalog from their website, which is www.ae-outfitters.com. The clothes aren't too bad, either. > I'm able to keep up with this list by going through the archives (www.smoe.org/lists/support-system) Wow, perfect timing. My e-mail was all fucked for a couple days and I missed a couple, and was just about to go looking through the old digests for this address, as I knew I'd seen it posted before. Thank you so much for saving me the time. > A really great laugh I'd like to share with everyone, I was looking at >Jenny's page in the computer lab at school and my teacher looked over my >shoulder, what did he say? "That's what you look like with your hair down." >What?! Not! I wanted to bang my head on the keyboard because I do not look >anything like Liz! Sounds like your teacher's hitting on you. :) >the only complaint i would have is that it was really hard to hear what she >was singing at times especially during the faster, more rocking tunes. From another part that I snipped, it sounded like you were down in front. That could explain the lyrics problems. A lot of live setups have a bunch of bass speakers on the floor right in front of the stage. Since you're sitting right in front of a lot of bass, it can drown out the treble, which is mostly what vocals are, especially female. So it might have just been your location. >Following up on this, >MARTINA: >... >Your sending the reports was a noble and respectable act and you show >guts and courage in supporting a worthwhile cause that you feel strongly >about... however, in my final analysis (worth a pile of the shit at the >end of the day!), it is sort of out of place. I know there has to be a limit, but I think of this list almost as more of a community of (mostly) cool people to talk with. Yes, most of the talk should be Liz related, as that's why the list exists, but I think some un-Liz banter is good, as long as it's intelligent and informative like these articles were. >><<< His wording "if you're a guy..."etc. was probably just of the >>top of his head, maybe out of line, but he probably meant no >>offense to anyone.>>> >Off-the-top-of-the-head remarks are the most revealing, and the >intention or lack thereof of offense is all but irrelevant. You try being >invisible for 20 years and then get back to me. I don't think >he intended offense either, but I also thought I should try to let him >know that maybe, just maybe, all guys aren't exactly like him. Yes, it is relevant. If he meant no offense, why would you take any? It almost seems as if you were looking for a comment to take offense at. My take on it was an innocent remark, and I think, based on the wording, we can assume he was referring to guys who are attracted to women. It seems pretty obvious to me that he wasn't referring to gay men. Why do you have to be so sensitive? Just realize that you're different, and deal with it. >The fact that a public or private apology, or even explanation, has >not appeared is revealing in itself. Why? Why should he apologize for something that he wrote where he meant no offense? If he'd called you a fucking asshole or some other offensive thing, yes. But he made no negative remark about you, gays, elephants, or anything. I mean, what's next? Me saying that I take offense to the word "explanation" and demanding that you apologize for using it? He meant no offense, let it go. >Y'all can be a couple or a couple hundred of guys thinking Liz is >hot all day for all I care, and can talk about it on the list, too. I >just don't think you should assume, subconsciously or consciously, >that all the guys on this list or in the world share your desire. >Understand? As long as you don't assume that every comment on this list is anti-gay, and that everyone is trying to offend you. >I don't want to protract this into a long debate, but I feel as if my >post was misrepresented and want to clear the air. :-) And his post seems to have been mis-interpreted. And, to wrap things up, these last two posts I have responded to lead perfectly to something I'm curious about. Has anyone else noticed that there is a fairly high percentage of gay or bi people on this list? I'm not trying to offend anyone here, as I'm bi myself, but I'm just wondering. Any opinions as to why Liz's music might appeal to gay people? Or am I just underestimating the actual percentages in the world? It also could have to do with who's posting. But, as I said, just curious as to ideas, and again, no offense meant. My wording here might not be the best, but, as demonstrated, it's a fairly touchy subject, unfortunately.
