The best I have found is that that format was created by ATI, and from ATI's website, is only available in software that comes with their hardware. Does anyone know if there is a way to play a vcr2-coded AVI short of buying one of the ATI video cards? I was hoping Jase would have posted his Toronto story by now, but I guess he's *still* writing it... heh. It's a good one, though! After he posts his remarks about his remarkable day last Tuesday, I'll add to it, since I was at the show with him. In the meantime, here's a chord prog. for "Love Is Nothing" that I worked out the other night in 45 minutes, while fairly baked (so, either the pot really helped, as I would like to think, or it helped me make mistakes...). My disclaimer is this: This is only MY interpretation of the song as I listened to it over and over and over with my guitar in standard tuning, without ever having seen Liz play it live. Most of the other Liz songs I've figured out came from watching live video boots ("Mesmerizing," "Explain it to Me," etc.). This is not the case with "Love Is Nothing," and most of the chords I use here are barre chords, and I doubt it that Liz uses all barre chords in this song (she's far more inventive than that). However, this is definitely the right idea, Liz just might play these chords at a different position on the neck, using different fingerings (you know what I mean). I tried to be as accurate as possible. But anyway, here goes... 1. D barre chord lowE: 10 A: 12 D: 12 G: 11 B: 10 E: 10 2. F#m barre E: 9 A: 9 D: 11 G: 11 B: 10 E: 9 3. C barre E: 8 A: 10 D: 10 G: 9 B: 8 E: 8 4. F barre E: 1 A: 3 D: 3 G: 2 B: 1 E: 1 5. "g" E: 3 A: 2 D: open G: open B: 3 E: open 6: Eb barre E: 6 A: 6 D: 8 G: 8 B: 6 E: 6 7. f barre (I use "f" here because it's A-shape) E: 8 A: 8 D: 10 G: 10 B: 8 E: 8 8. G barre (different, mind you, from "g") E: 3 A: 5 D: 5 G: 4 B: 3 E: 3 9. A barre E: 5 A: 7 D: 7 G: 6 B: 5 E: 5 10. a ("regular") E: open A: open D: 2 G: 2 B: 2 E: open 11. Bm barre E: 7 A: 9 D: 9 G: 7 B: 7 E: 7 okay, you put all these chords together like so: You (D) thought I was (F#m) something from a-(C)-far, you thought I'd (F) totally ex-(g)-cite you ....(Eb), (f), (F) I (D) guess it's just a-(F#m)-nother thing... (same exact thing) chorus: Love is (D) nothing, (G) nothing, (A) nothing, (G) like (D) they say (F#m), (C), (A) You gotta (D) pick up the (G) little (A) pieces (G) everyday (D), (G), (a) You were (D) telling me(G) the (A)friends we (G)have in (D)common (G), (a) By the (D) time I (G) figured it (A) out, you(G) were (D) yawning (G), (a) chorus (same as above chorus) and I thought... (G) who am I(A)? (D), (Bm) (G) who's this (A) guy? (D), (Bm) (G) would I (A)lie? (D), (Bm) to (D) make the (Bm)day blur (G)into the (A)night... (for the instrumental that follows, it's the same exact chords played over the very first verse of the song -- D, F#m, C, and so on...) and then you have the chorus repeat, which is no different from the previous chorus. end on (a)... Anyway, some notes... the Eb, f thing played in the first verse and during the instrumental break counts for 2 strums together, all other chords get two strums, basically. Anyway, if you play guitar and you're as familiar with the rhythm of this song as I am, you oughta know when to play what chords, and how many strums/beats, etc. If you're a beginner guitarist and can't even hold a barre chord long enough to hit w/ your pick, then I suggest you try mastering Liz's "Oh My God" outtake, which is nothing more than Am, D, E... (first Liz song I ever learned, ha ha...) Also, when you play the D, Bm part on the bridge of "Love is Nothing," it might sound not-quite-right... that's becuz there's a bass and an organ playing somewhat of a counter-melody over that part, but trust me, D, Bm is the way to go. I couldn't find any other chords that fit there. Those of you don't play guitar and can't stand the sight of this tab I present to you all, well, keep in mind that it's more informative than a lot of the silliness that gets posted here, and please don't complain about it. there have recently been a lot of requests for Liz tabs, anyway. And I'm told that the Hal Leonard (with its horrendously misheard lyrics) Whip-smart book is fairly accurate with the tabs, but I'm not too sure... I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the only way to really figure out a Liz song is to watch her, over and over, play the song LIVE IN CONCERT (i.e. watch a video boot). I've posted the tab for "Explain it to Me" here before, "totally" accurate (I just had someone tell me just how accurate it is the other day), and if you missed it, maybe someone has it saved. Jase...? Anyway, one last thing: for those of you unsure of ANY of the lyrics on the Whip-Smart record, they're available at the site "Little Guyville," an oldie, which hasn't been updated in literally years. I forget the URL, but it's the second, I believe, website listed on Ken Lee's 'liz links' page... The lyrics to Whip-smart there are taken directly from the Atlantic lyric sheet, which comes with the vinyl version of the record, I believe. Please, if you're not sure of any lyrics, just ask. I find the "misheard lyrics" thread amusing, cuz believe me, I've been there (I won't even embarrass myself by telling you what *I* misheard, it's so pathetic)... but it's also frightening when there's people out there who are *still* mishearing lyrics! Jason Long's website is next to 100% accurate for lyrics. There were a couple other things I wanted to respond to, but I can't remember which now... Sorry for the length of this post... really, I am. Don't argue, people... I have all these pictures of her on my binder... my eye is always drawn to any photos of her.. and damn it, I do think she's hot. Too bad she's married, she's straight, and I'm straight... (that doesn't make any sense does it ) by the way, I remembered 1 of my misheard lyrics - also from supernova, like our little sheriff's-bare-red-ass thing... For my first few months of having the album (I got it for $5 at an antique store - that's my "how I got into Liz story") I thought "F-16" was "acid's sting" and I still think it sounds a lot like that. And it's cool that way - it makes just as much (or more) sense that someone's "kisses are as wicked as an acid's sting." How is an f-16 wicked? Leslie >?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>? "Your kisses are as wicked as an acid's sting, & you fuck like a volcano and you're everything to me" >?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Oct 1998 22:54:03 EST From: MEfest@aol.com Subject: 11/17/98 minneapolis show CD i'll be taking orders via mail for the next week and then getting a bunch made. let me know if you're interested and i'll get you my address. craig ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 00:12:45 EST From: NemoIAm@aol.com Subject: Chicago Show 10-25-98 Just got back from seeing Liz at the Vic at it was worth the wait--of which I mean the slide show which seem to go on interminably (and can someone tell me again who those breasts belong to?) From the cool start with the long shadows, til the abrupt end--where Liz just kinda walked off stage--it was a first class experience. I wish I remembered the set list, but highlights included-Polyster Bride (which I getting kinda tired of on the talk show circuit but took on new life tonight), Go On Ahead, Cinco De Mayo, Fuck and Run, and the best of the best- Divorce Song. Liz seemed shy (her stage banter needs work) but was so cute, dancing around and chiding the audience to "loosen up". The crowd on the balcony where I was at did seem a bit subdued, which was strange since the music was rocking throughout (the drum beats are still pounding in head).
