I missed the live performance of "Cinco de Mayo" from 1994(?) at the end, but it was cut short anyway- damn MTV people! The performance also wasn't as rockin' as this year's shows, nor did she look as pretty (she looks great in my photos from the 9:30 Club!). Speaking of the 9:30 Club, did anyone tape it? I've read everyone's favorite bands, danceable liz songs, liz moments, and mistaken lyrics, but I haven't really found out what all you phair-a-philes are like. See, I don't know that many liz fans personally, but the few I do know are all, like, crazy-smart. I mean, it's only those of my friends who now go to Berkeley and Stanford. And then there's me, who's applying to those colleges... And also, the people I know are not into mainstream music or mainstream pop culture, etc... But then, I have a very small sampling, which doesn't provide for a scientifically correct profile of the span of liz's fans. So what I'd like to learn is 1. how would you briefly characterize the fan you know best (can be you) 2. how do you summarize the range of fans as you see it? I'm thinking info like gender, age, intellectual interests (or lack thereof), music tastes, clothing tastes, marital/dating status, musician or not... or whatever you've noticed, even if it's irrelevant By the way - I'm not trying to get a stereotype for Liz fans - I'm trying to break the one formed by my own limited experience, and get to know my fellow liz-adorers a bit better. If this will make for a really boring thread, ignore it, but if you can bear with me, I'm really interested... How, you ask? Simple, really. Listen to the last line Liz sings before the instrumental outtro, the one that echoes, and it clearly ends with a "-sing" sound, since the echo goes "sing, sing, sing, sing,..." There you go- problem solved! Also- Hal Leonard publishing isn't that good at transcribing lyrics...check out their book to Pearl Jam's "Ten", Even Flow in particular. They say Eddie says "freeze him, rest his head on a pillow made of concrete" and "maybe he'll see a little better Saturdays" when us PJ fans who own the Japanese Alive single with words know the lines as "Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete" and "maybe he'll see a little better set of days," the song's about a homeless guy! - -Jeff P.S.-sorry about that tangent there, I've been listening to Pearl Jam all night and it's 1:50am and I'm tired... *************************************************************** It's nice to be liked, but it's better by far to get paid -Liz Phair *************************************************************** ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1998 01:05:43 -0500 From: palik@ix.netcom.com Subject: Liz Sessions at West 54th ? (in case people still don't know, we are putting together a thank you/congratulations card for liz, kind of to commemorate the album and the tour) thanks again for all of your input. hopefully this thing will work out. jacob. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Oct 98 02:04:08 PDT From: "Steve Sleefe" Subject: Liz on MuchMusic and WCSE Cookies This is my first time posting a message; I hope all goes well. Anyway, so I watched Liz's interview on MuchMusic and was amazed at how easy going and talkative she was. Bill was the V.J. doing the interview, which makes sense because he always says he loves her music and has a big crush on her. I remember one time he was hosting Much on Demand and wouldn't give away any prizes unless somebody requested a Liz Phair video. Funny! After the interview was over they played Polyester Bride. They play it quite a bit on MuchMusic. I am very pleased. I went on a Liz Phair website and got a recipe for WCSE cookies and me and my girlfriend made them and they were so good. Also I was just wondering if I am the only Canadian on this list. If any more of you are out there tell me if they play Liz on the new MuchMOREMusic Channel. I don't get that channel yet. Talk to everybody later. I saw her at Lilith in Chicago, which was great, but the atmosphere for this show was so much better. At Lilith the Liz phans were definitely in the minority (we got asked to sit down and stop dancing....whatever) But since at Roseland it was just Liz, everyone loved her and knew the songs and everything. I would say it was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had--I just kept looking at her up on stage singing all the songs that I love so much and I was like "I cannot believe I'm really here!" You really should consider doing a petition. On Pearl Jams recent tour, they didn't have any Florida shows originally, so a bunch of fans started a petition drive on the Internet, and Pearl Jam ended up tacking on two shows in West Palm Beach to the end of the tour. Now, I've never heard any official confirmation that this was a direct result of the petition, and if they ever even sent the thing to P.J., but it seems likely. Also, if not a petition, how about flooding a Matador e-mail address with requests. (Sorry, Matador) The key with that would not be to send a bunch of the same message, but get as many different people as possible (obviously). Maybe some Liz-devoted sites could work together to get their visitors to write Matador, maybe providing a link and some kind of form letter. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that it has happened before, so there's hope. I'd say you guys should give it a shot. >She sings "they stand tensies" on the Girlysound version of "Whip-Smart".
