Also, there is a new Liz Quiz, and there are new awards for both quizzes. I just got a graphics program, and I am all proud of myself, so go, and get these new awards, and then display them proudly. Or please just visit my site, the counter reset when I was updating, so go and get those numbers up! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jenny I wanna be cool, tall, vulnerable, and luscious http://www.saylerfamily.com/jas/lizphair.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 02:11:33 -0400 (EDT) From: The New Zero Subject: clutch cargo show, pontiac. hello, just got back from the show:) it was pretty damned cool. liz was just amazing. highlights for me were dance of the seven veils and flower and all of the encores. she was just so cute all dancing and such! and the lighting was cool... liz kept remarking about how odd it was to be performing in a church (clutch cargo used to be a church). she commented on how pretty CLutch Cargo was...and how not-so-pretty it was outside (haha pontiac really isnt the nicest of places). then she told a couple hilarious ghost stories. then she asked if we were actually in detroit (or michigan hehe). lots of interaction with the crowd. she was just too damned funny. she wore a really cool light blue dress and had awesome boots that almost came up to her knees. for some reason, i couldnt hear her too well at some points. as if the band were overpowering, or the vocals werent turned up enough or something, i dont know what it was. anyways, the clutch staff was just downright RUDE to us! hoarding the setlists and such. after the show a whole bunch of people (um, i'd say about 30-40?) wiated by the tour bus for about an hour. but when she finally came out, she gave us all a wave and went off in a car. it kinda irked me...but then her backup singer (who does NOT look like joan osborne up close, its just the hair!!) explained to us that they had never had such a big crowd waiting after the show...*shrug* janet, the backup singer, and the rest of the band was extremely cool. we hung out with them for a little while after the show. and got their autographs and pictures with them and such. oh, and hello to Trent's Niece's friend from saginaw:) i think your name is liz? hehe hi!:) oh, and janet ALSO said that they might head down south, to texas and the like. i asked about florida, because i know a lot of you are hopin' liz will come down there...and she was like "Oooh i dont think we are...but thats ok cuz the weather SUCKS!" she and my friend courtney then had a conversation about how florida makes their naturally curly hair stand straight up on their heads;) ok, im going to bed now. again, liz was phenomenal, and she also seemed extremely confident. no visible nervousness at all:) steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 02:16:27 -0400 (EDT) From: The New Zero Subject: one more thing oh yeah, about the clutch show, the crowd was REALLY into it. it almost seemed like one huge sing a long. thats all:) steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 98 09:22:56 -0400 From: dbickin@ibm.net Subject: Subtle Art of Ordering.... I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so I will transcribe it. In the October 18th Philadelphia Inquirer, "Subtle art of sequencing is the 'feng shui' of CD's" by Tom Moon. The article is long, but two paragraphs towards the end deal with Liz and they had a copy of the WCSE cover as art work. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are other considerations. Liz Phair, whose debut album Exile In Guyville was a track-by-track response to the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street, let her lyrics guide her in assembling the order for her third disc, whitechocolatespaceegg. "The thing about this album was to kind of tell a story," says Phair. "I had these three-minute emotional universes, and somehow they had to feed off each other." For example, "Perfect World," the CD's third track, "is about my own feeling of inadequacy. And the next song, 'Johnny Feelgood,' is a total reaction against that, in the sense that I'm standing up for something that's important to me." - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- David ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 08:50:52 -0500 From: Kaufmann@IPFW.EDU (Kaufmann,Mike) Subject: Liz and talk shows Actually, I agree with you. When I mentioned performance, I probably should have emphasized TV performance more. The simple fact is she's not coming off on TV with same success as in her concert performances. Maybe it is a mark of character not to be comfortable in such a situation, but she's not showing up there for any other reason except to sell her album, so I'm sure she'd rather come off better. I was simply speculating on some changes that might make a more vivid image. Whether it's Liz or whoever who's deciding it, some changes wouldn't hurt, though now the point seems moot since she's hit most of the likely shows. The 120 mins went well and the interviewer was thankfully knowledgeable about her stuff, but she didn't really perform--which is my remarks pertained to. I only wished they showed more of the earlier 120 mins performance, it looked like a good one--perhaps because it was in a more concert like setting. David said: there's absolutely no way to compare Liz's performances on talk shows with her concerts. To draw any conclusion from a four-minute appearance between commercial breaks is ridiculous. (If you've ever seen Van Morrison on a good night live versus the way he appears on tv, you know what I'm talking about.) I'd actually go so far to say that I LIKE the fact that she's not comfortable in the idiotic talk show spotlight. That's why she's cool - because she's not comfortable simply selling herself. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 11:00:03 -0500 From: Jaimee Subject: msp show liz kicked ass in minneapolis...i was entranced...but i totally know where yall are coming from with that league of boys who go to her shows to oggle her and hear her say 'cunt' or something. some drunk asses were standing behind me saying "dude! wouldn't that be awesome if she came out without her top on!!??!?" ehhh yeah. moving on...liz seemed very comfortable and like she was enjoying herself. the slide show was ok, i dint really care for it though. liz wore a maroon colored silk dress...alright i'll shut up now...oh for the 18 year old..you shoulda e-mailed me i had an extra ticket and an extra guardian-to-be. ah well next time. all they did was put a big black x on both my hands and say if you get drunk then we are kickin your mom out. My mom left shortly before the show started so I was by myself for most of the time anyway. oh, and i don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but they were selling "regular" wcse t-shirts there for $20. colors: white and red...not especially creative but what can ya do. prettiest mess you ever seen, jaimee *god is the sweat running down his back* - -- pj harvey ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 11:19:01 -0500 (CDT) From: leeroy Subject: CHicago tickET correction, the ticket is for 10/27 tues please respond with 'chicago tickets' in your subject kun ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 12:36:51 -0400 (EDT) From: The New Zero Subject: pontiac show revisted hehe i remembered some more stuff that i wanted to tell you all but forgot :) first of all, along with the baby tee and the white tee, they were also selling a red teeshirt that said Liz Phair in yellow. it was 20 bucks also. oh, and also, Janet said that she reads the Message Boards on a regular basis. just thought that was cool:) and as kate said, the clutch cargo people were ASSFACES. both inside and outside the venue. ok. i think thats it... toriniss, steve "everyone's got a monday it looks like shit and it must be America" --liz phair ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 10:30:28 -0700 From: "George Song" Subject: freak of nature... a while back someone mentioned a chicago area radio station (q106 i think?) put out a compilation disc that contained liz phair's freak of nature? did anyone get this disc? and how's the version on there compared to the version on the demos? i love that song! what's the possibility of purchasing this cd now? if not anyone willing to make a .wav or .mp3? thanks! george mailto:geos@bigfoot.com p.s. please cc or email privately! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 13:51:35 -0400 (EDT) From: The New Zero Subject: pontiac again -- oh jesus wept! ;) hehe i KNEW there was one more thing i had to say! hehehe:) janet said that the Sessions at 54th or whatever that show is called, should air sometime early in november. and thats that:) steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 16:00:27 -0400 From: "Cynthia Nagle" Subject: Re: 120 Minutes, the Rant, new thread Hi everyone! Was Liz on 120 Minutes just awesome, or what? This may be the best interview I've seen with her yet (though, of course, far too short). I especially loved her take on making videos - I'm convinced she DOES like performing! (I feel like she & I have some things in common...) BTW, I *don't* think you could see her undies - that must be someone's wishful thinking. To Mike Marlatt - thanks for the review of "The Last Rock & Roll Star, or Liz Phair: A Rant" - no one else's reaction made me want to read it, but yours does! Here's an idea for a new thread, based on the idea in the book: what Liz lyrics have YOU mis-heard, mis-sung, etc. until you found out the REAL ones? I, too, never knew the "letters and sodas" part in Fuck and Run until just recently - I thought she was saying "lettuce and something," or something (now that's embarrassing!)
