I had the most awesome time at Liz Phair's October 8th show at Roseland! It was definitely one of the best experiences of my entire life. Everything went fabulously ! I was in the second row, after the railing and I was really close. I actually SAW Liz as well as heard her and this show left the Lilith Fair in the dust. My only complaint is that some tall people blocked my view so I couldn't see much during Flower and some other things, but all in all, Liz totally rocked and I am still feeling so happy and energized from being there. Her play list was basically the same as what everybody else wrote. In between songs, Liz was really sweet and kept saying how much she loved New York City and how she wished she could record all the things people were shouting to her from the audience. It was completely fulfilling and satisfying to hear Fuck and Run live, and my best friend and I were holding hands and bopping for the whole song! That song really means a lot to both of us. So I am just thrilled to death that I was there and it was a fabulous show! I saw them for the first time in Paris at a show with Fiona Apple and I was really blown away by them. Then during the Lilith Fair this year, as soon as Liz ended I ran to the second stage to see them and they were even better! I felt very much at home then and I was rocking along with them. Maybe I was in the perfect spot (well, I guess the perfect spot would be right at Liz's feet, but after that maybe!). I'm glad to see that other people felt really emotional about seeing Liz in concert. I read a few times that people "almost cried" at one point or another. Good to know I'm not the only one! Janet came out and i told her what Liz did, and she said she would take me backstage to get it signed. but, when Janet came off the bus to take me back, Liz came out and drove away in a car. anyway, Janet said she would take it and get it signed for me and mail it to me. all of my friends said that i was stupid and that she wouldn't mail it to me, but she did. Liz signed it and wrote on it that she was sorry that she forgot to give it back to me. i thought it was extremely nice of Janet to do that for me. so, i just wanted to share that with everyone. also, if you are looking for a copy of the polyester bride 7", i ordered mine from a store in NY called Yesterday and Today. their number is 301-279-7007. i think it's a promo 7", but it doesn't say it anywhere on it, but it comes in a plain white sleeve. it says for jukeboxes only on the record. i hope this helps everyone. take care. jeff "i guess it started off slow but it's picking up speed and it gaining on me like a carnivore" -Liz Phair ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 16:01:31 EDT From: AngelLieb@aol.com Subject: Updated my page Hey everyone, I've updated my page and included links to some of my fave Liz sites. I made an interesting connection today and I'd like to see if anyone agrees. I was listening to EIG in the car. "Soap Star Joe" came on and I kept thinking "This reminds me of something . . ." I rewound and relistened to the song several times before it hit me: Velvet Underground. More specifically, Velvet Underground & Nico. Even more specifically, "Run Run Run." "Soap Star Joe" has, I think, a general VU kind of sound to it anyway, but the guitar and harmonica work reminds me a LOT of "Run Run Run." A lot of the similarity is probably in the "lo-fi" sound both albums, but I think I'm truly onto something here. Does anyone else hear it, or am I just nuts? (oh yeah, to the dude from williams.. i go to amherst what year are you? i know a few people at williams....) ookay..now onto nyc... unfortunately, after the 9:30 club and the avalon, the roseland kind of sucked... its about 3 times as big, and they dont' know how to handle will-call tickets.. so everyone was standingon the thisline that went around theblock to 53rd street, and we were late and tired (after driving in from amherst in the rain) and i was fighting with my friend... but anways, after finally getting in (we missed up to never said, i think.. alhtough i heard explain it to me while standing outside the back door, taking a walk around the block looking for my friend). i ended up pushing my way up to standing next to the sound booth. liz was wearing the same thing as in boston.... (at least until she changed for the encore). i ran out right after the show, to around back, where i knew she would be coming out. i was the 2nd person out there.. to others who were waiting out there, i was the one in the little black dress giving evil looks to my "friend" and his skanky girlfriend i met ric, the drummer, who was really really nice and signed my cd, and took a pic with me. i kept asking the bit scary bounder guy when liz was coming out, and he kept telling me to just wait my her limo, which i was practically sitting on so then the scary bouncer guy, after about an hour or so, told us liz was about to come out, but that she wasn't going to sign anything for anyone, which was someone discouraging but... when she did come out, i took a bunch of pics, and i started taking to her through the open drivers door of the limo. i told her that it was my friend and i that had been screaming for jealousy in boston and dc, and she told us that the band was going to learn to play that this weekend (so for all of you who still have shows to go to, you lucky dogs...) and then i told her that we had seenher 3 times that week, and that it was amazing, and she said thanks, and that that was really cool.. and then the driver drove her off, but she was like tryingto turn around and still talk to us. so that was a really cool experience.. much better than the letterman appearance experience i had and told you all about. so now i know that liz is actually really cool, and that makes me happy. and there ends my liz saga. sorry if this bored you all to no end... so yeah, if anyone has a boot of the roseland show, could you email me privately... iwould be interested in setting up a trade or something... and that brings us to a close. goodnight all :) (:ruthie:) - -- *******Deceive*******Inveigle*******Obfuscate******* "Wild and unwise, I wanna be mesmerizing, too" "All the stars up in heaven were rushed by an angel, to see the light of your face better" --Liz Phair "I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl who's still around the morning after" --Elliott Smith ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Oct 1998 00:06:23 -0500 From: Jaimee Subject: liz in minneapolis hola... anyone goin to the MSP show saturday who would like to meet up or something e-mail me.
